Faceshield brackets were among highly relevant products manufactured in various workshops, including Sigma Clermont, during the outbreak of COVID-19 to tackle acute shortages of personal protective equipment. However, many of these products are yet to be checked for appropriateness in design, quality, safety, comfort, and overall sustainability performance which might lead to unknown damages to human health and the environment. Thus, the main objective of this study is to evaluate the sustainable performance of Faceshield bracket manufacturing. Appropriate data are collected from designers, machine operators, and supplementary data are utilized from experts’ opinions and literature. A total of 38 carefully selected indicator sets are utilized while applying multicriteria decision-making methodology (MCDM) of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to evaluate the sustainability performance of these manufacturing processes. Evaluation is performed to examine the processes’ sustainability performance and associated indicator contribution based on the three dimensions. Results disclosed that 3D printing (score = 0.108) showed better performance for the environment, and injection molding showed better economic and social performance, with scores of 0.1922 and 0.160, respectively. A detailed contribution of each subcriteria for each sustainability dimension and each of the three processes as well as major contributing indicators are identified and discussed. Finally, overall performance was assessed using the total sum approach, and Borda count methodology and injection molding showed better sustainability performance in the manufacturing of Faceshield brackets considered with scores of 43 and 87, respectively. The authors believe that indicator selection approaches and overall methodology followed for this study will be relevant for future sustainability evaluation of engineering products.

Decision makers in developing countries are struggling to solve the present problems of solid waste management. Prioritisation and ranking of the most important indicators that influence the waste management system is very useful for any decision maker for the future planning and implementation of a sustainable waste management system. The aim of this study is to evaluate key indicators and their related sub-indicators in a group decision-making environment. In order to gain insight into the subject it was necessary to obtain the qualified opinions of decision makers from different countries who understand the situation in the sector of waste management in developing countries. An assessment is performed by 43 decision makers from both developed and developing countries, and the applied methodology is based on a combined use of the analytic hierarchy process, from the multi-criteria decision-making set of tools, and the preferential voting method known as Borda Count, which belongs to social choice theory. Pairwise comparison of indicators is performed with the analytic hierarchy process, and the ranking of indicators once obtained is assessed with Borda Count. Detailed analysis of the final results showed that the Institutional–Administrative indicator was the most important one, with the maximum weight as derived by both groups of decision makers. The results also showed that the combined use of the analytic hierarchy process and Borda Count contributes to the credibility and objectivity of the decision-making process, allowing its use in more complex waste management group decision-making problems to be recommended.

Purpose – This paper aims to identify and classify the main barriers for adopting circular economy practices using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method for prioritization. The proposed methodology evaluates the importance of different classes of barriers for adopting circular economy practices in a food company and metalworking company. Theoretical framework – This study was based on the current theory of barriers to adopt circular economy practices and multicriteria decision-making. Design/methodology/approach – The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was used to assess and prioritize barriers for circular economy practices. Stability was ranked using a sensitivity analysis. Findings – The results indicate significant differences in the classification of barriers. While the food manufacturing company indicate that the main barriers are related to technical information, the metalworking company considered that barriers relating to financial and economic issues have more of an impact. Originality/value – The study contributes to providing insights so that managers have a greater perception of the main difficulties in adopting circular economy practices, in addition, the study also contributes to extending the application of multicriteria decision making methodologies to the circular economy and evaluating the relative importance of the barriers. Objectives: To identify early suicide risk signs on depressive subjects, so that specialized care can be provided. Various studies have focused on studying expressions on social networks, where users pour their emotions, to determine if they show signs of depression or not. However, they have neglected the quantification of the risk of committing suicide. Therefore, this article proposes a new index for identifying suicide risk in Mexico. Methodology: The proposal index is constructed through opinion mining using Twitter and the Analytic Hierarchy Process. Contribution: Using R statistical package, a study is presented considering real data, making a classification of people according to the obtained index and using information from psychologists. The proposed methodology represents an innovative prevention alternative for suicide.
