Purpose The purpose of this paper is to establish the link between three constructs, namely, service innovation, corporate reputation (CR), and word-of-mouth (hereinafter WOM). Primarily, the aim is to understand whether innovation in a service firm drives its reputation, thereby resulting in positive WOM where the direct effect of service innovation of a firm on WOM is mediated by reputation. Furthermore, the study also seeks to understand whether the type of service firm has an effect on determining the level of the mediation effect. Design/methodology/approach This study adopts an integrated approach where the measure for the construct service innovation is explored through a qualitative approach, and the conceptual model is estimated through path analysis. The service industry taken for this study is banking, and the through non-probability criterion sampling technique, 252 customers responded to their level of agreement. The PLS-SEM technique was used to estimate the path coefficient by following the two-stage approach. The multigroup moderation analysis is performed to determine whether the type of the bank plays a major role in determining the direct effects and the mediation effect of CR between service innovation and WOM. Findings The result of this study indicates that there is a strong positive association between the three constructs. Further, the direct relationship between service innovation and WOM is partially mediated by reputation. The result of the multigroup moderation indicates that the type of the bank plays a major role in determining the mediation effect of reputation. Practical implications The study helps the decision makers and the managers of the bank to understand that frequent innovation within the firm would help to gain reputation, and thereby customers would tend to give a positive WOM. Further, non-reputable firms can still gain a positive WOM if they continuously innovate new services. In the Indian context, it is noted that there is a difference between private and public banks in determining the mediation effect of reputation between service innovation and WOM. Originality/value The originality of the study is based on the following: development of a unique scale to measure service innovation in the banking industry overcoming the existing scales which are based on goods-dominant logic; estimating empirically the combined effect of service innovation and CR on WOM; the process of evaluating the moderated mediation effect; how the mediating effect of CR varies from private sector banks to public sector banks.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to understand how ethical leadership and coworker ethical behavior will influence employee unethical pro-organizational behavior (UPB). In particular, the authors examine the mediating effect of moral disengagement on the relationship between ethical leadership and UPB and also investigate the moderating effect of coworker ethical behavior on the aforementioned effect.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 251 employee–coworker dyads from five organizations in Taiwan at two time points. Moderated mediation analysis was conducted to test the hypotheses.FindingsThe results show that moral disengagement mediates the relationship between ethical leadership and employee UPB. Moreover, the results show that coworker ethical behavior moderates the relationship between moral disengagement and employee UPB, as well as the mediated relationship between ethical leadership and employee UPB via moral disengagement. Specifically, both the moral disengagement–UPB relationship and the ethical leadership–moral disengagement–UPB relationship become weaker when coworker ethical behavior is high.Practical implicationsThe results highlight the importance of creating an ethical work environment to get everyone behaving ethically in the workplace, because nurturing an ethical atmosphere in organizations will be useful in reducing the occurrence of UPB even for those who have high levels of moral disengagement.Originality/valueThis study shows that coworkers matter morally as much as leaders, demonstrating the importance of social influence from coworkers in organizations.

This study investigated the impact of the use of social networking sites on university graduate students’ green sustainable entrepreneurial intentions by developing a mediating effect. This study provided a research framework using Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior and Shapero’s model to illustrate the relationship between self-efficacy and risk propensity towards green and sustainable entrepreneurial intentions. This research model posited a relationship between the use of social networking sites and green and sustainable entrepreneurship intentions with a mediating role of risk propensity and self-efficacy. The structural questionnaire was adopted, validated, and disseminated to the 300 respondents of university students. This study’s findings confirmed that there was a significant positive effect of the use of social networking sites on green and sustainable entrepreneurship intentions with the indirect impact of risk propensity and self-efficacy. These substantial outcomes have essential practices and academic implications for representatives, policy makers, and entrepreneurial institutes, such as how to direct the use of such relative niche technologies for communication and the role of the internet to promote green and sustainable entrepreneurial practices among young people.

PurposeDrawing on stakeholder theory and contingency theory, this study empirically investigates the relationship between responsible leadership (RL) and each dimension of triple-bottom-line (TBL) performance. Moreover, we tested the mediating effect of corporate reputation (CR) and innovation between RL and TBL performance.Design/methodology/approachPerceptual data were collected from 227 senior-level Pakistani managers using a questionnaire survey. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test the direct and mediating effect hypotheses.FindingsThe results revealed that RL significantly and positively affects each dimension of TBL performance. Further, innovation mediated the relationship between RL and each dimension of TBL performance. However, CR did not mediate the relationship between RL and environmental performance.Originality/valueThis is maiden study to empirically investigate the effect of RL on meso-level outcome. Further, this study would be among the few ones to use TBL as a measure of corporate performance. Moreover, it will be the first study to test the mediating role of CR and innovation in the above-mentioned relationship and will also validate contingency theory.

AbstractThis study aims to measure and investigates the mediating effect of business incubators (BIs) and the influence of training programs, capital support, and networking services on sustainable entrepreneurship growth (SEG). A mediated conceptual model is constructed to simplify the effect and influences of variables taken in this study. A quantitative research method is employed on a sample size of 567. A survey questionnaire was used as an instrument to collect data from incubator centers and entrepreneurs. The method of bootstrapping, partial least squares (software 3.2.8) Algorithms, and structural equation models were used. In findings, the positive and significant influence of networking services, capital support, and training programs were identified on SEG. Also, the relationship between networking services, capital support, training programs, and SEG was mediated by BIs.
