As Mexico’s minister of public education from 1921 to 1924, José Vasconcelos played a prominent role in efforts to create a new national identity expressing the 1910 Revolution’s goals of an inclusive society and equitable nation, opportunities created through education, and shared cultural expressions. Vasconcelos has been widely praised for his educational campaigns, especially in the countryside, among indigenous communities, and for his literacy programs in the city. According to these recent interpretations, his efforts as minister of public education have been both over- and underestimated. Nevertheless, the revolutionary national identity that he helped to foster with his discussion of mestizaje in La Raza Cósmica (The Cosmic Race; 1925) has since been ingrained into everyday life and culture.

Technology and education have always had a loving relationship, especially in the classroom. For Education in Chemistry, smartphones and their Apps can provide experiences that were previously restricted to a laboratory experiment. The purpose of this study was to investigate through an evaluation the use of the Periodic Table Quiz applications and the Educalabs Periodic Table in the classroom, how these technologies can be integrated into teaching and what are their effects on student learning. It was held at the Municipal School of Primary Education II Roberto Antunes de Freitas in the city of Quiterianópolis-CE, in 02 classes of the 9th grade, comprising 32 students, with a methodology based on a descriptive study, empirical basis and qualitative nature. The results showed the contribution and potential that the applications offer in the learning of chemical concepts. After using these, it can be noticed that there were more correct answers in 08 of the 10 questions proposed, and 100% of the students stated that their interest in the subject increased, so they could verify the validity of exploring chemistry contents through these applications since they offer more interactive content that engages the student's genuine interest in participating in the process.

Poverty, illiteracy, and crimes are key factors that commonly lead to poor performance in public schools in many inner cities. Without an adequate solution to eradicate these issues, a city could propel towards a path to destruction. Over the past decade, the city of New Orleans, which is known for its exotic party atmosphere, has been crippled by its failing school system, as well as increasing crime and poverty rates. New Orleans has eagerly strived to improve its social stature, but there are several issues that affect the performance of the public school system. Several research studies have shown that strong education is the key to both economic growth and crime rate reduction. Within the city of New Orleans, it is often realized that the management of the public school system has a major impact on the student’s success rate. Statistics shown that within the recent years, tests scores have been continuously lower, crime has been higher than expected, and the teacher’s salary has been unsatisfactory. This prompts the question of whether there are significant associations between social economic factors and public school performance in inner city such as New Orleans. Hence, this current research will attempt to examine factors contributing to public school performance in New Orleans.

In 1907, William Henry O’Connell, the Massachusetts-born son of Irish immigrants, was appointed bishop. He had huge churchly ambition and won designation as Cardinal Archbishop of Boston. However, his attempts to develop a complete parochial school system in the city met with limited success. This chapter explores the reasons for the discrepancy between O’Connell’s rhetoric and the reality. The major factors are the Irish community’s lack of a tradition of attending parochial schools, the small numbers of Catholics in Boston from ethnic groups that did support public schools, and the fact that most Boston Catholic parents and parish priests had always attended the public schools and emerged with their faith intact.

This paper presents the first part of a research, which studies chromolithographic labelsof Brazilian products, emphasizing technical and projectual strategies on their execution. We will first present Ephemera and Brazilian Graphic Memory – areas of study inconnection with this research, and also describe the chromolithography technique. Wewill identify two institutions in the city of Rio de Janeiro that hold this kind of artifact– Fundação Biblioteca Nacional and Arquivo Nacional – describing their collection ofchromolithographed labels. A selection of 100 labels, based on the graphic elaborationof the material, constitutes the research corpus. A first approach of this corpus is basedon the identification of two sets: labels for luxury consumption and labels for popularconsumption. By this framing, we will develop preliminary analysis of the graphic-technicalapproach – emphasizing their color construction – and their iconographic strategies, highlighting the presence of Brazilian’s iconographic elements on the labels for popularconsumption and European themes on the ones for luxury consumption.

The article substantiates the advantages of using educational traveling when studying the unit "Internet Information Resources" at the lessons of "Informatics" in the 9th grade. The authors analyzes the approaches that are the basis for teaching students to informatics: systemic, activitybased and competence-based. Special attention is paid to the formation of metasubject competencies, which include the ability to use the mastered intersubject concepts and universal educational actions in educational activities, the independence of planning and implementing educational activities based on personal priorities, and the organization of educational cooperation with students and teachers. These competencies will be needed by students both in everyday life and in their future profession. Tasks for small groups of students and a range of questions for their solution are given, criteria for the success of assignments are developed, examples of the results of the work of groups are given.

AbstractThe camp and the city are both important for understanding the relationship between space and identity in the refugee experience of exile. In the Palestinian example, the camp has emerged as a potent symbol in the narrative of exile although only a third of refugees registered with UNRWA live in camps. Moreover, the city and urban refugees remain missing in most of the scholarship on the Palestinian experience with space, exile, and identity. Furthermore, there is little attention to how refugees understand the concept of the city and camp in their daily life. This article examines how Palestinian urban refugees in the Old City of Damascus conceptualized the relationship between the camp and the city. It illustrates how the concept of the camp remained necessary for the construction of their collective national identity while in Syria. However, the city was essential in the articulation of individual desires and establishing social distinction from other refugees. Thus, during a protracted exile it is in the interstice between the city and the camp, where most urban refugees in the Old City situated themselves, that informed their national belonging and personal aspirations.
