The research looked at Demand preference as it affects local rice supply in Niger State, Nigeria. Multi – stage sampling method was employed to obtain 125 household consumers of local Rice. The sampling of respondents cut across Agricultural zones 1, 2 and 3 of Niger State. Primary and Secondary data were used. Descriptive statistics like mean, frequency tables and percentages were employed to describe the socio – economic characteristics of the respondents. Vector Autoregressive model (VAR) was used to estimate production variables that granger caused local Rice supply. . Hedonic model was used to determine the effect of local Rice characteristics on the preference and willingness to pay by consumers. The result indicated the mean age of 45 for Niger. The household size has mean of 6 and years spent in school stood at 17 for Niger. The annual income mean were 414 thousand naira for Niger State. The granger causality equations show that, all variables granger caused production of local, Rice in Niger States except dlnarea. The dlnarea in Niger State was not significant. This means that it does not granger caused local Rice production. The result of hedonic model revealed that free from stone, whiteness, aroma, cohesion and taste were all significant. This means that all these attributes have great effect on price, preference and willingness to pay higher price for local Rice. These will encourage the producers to produce more and will lead to higher supply in the market.

Smallholder livestock farmers across Sub-Saharan Africa are racing against time to find cheaper, nutritious, and sustainable feed alternatives to the more pronounced and expensive commercial concentrates amidst the increasing global demand for livestock products. Lately, many prominent feed conservation technologies have been developed, with a notable example being the sweetpotato silage technology that turns wasted sweetpotato components into a palatable and nutritious livestock feed. However, despite the potential benefits associated with these technologies, the level of demand and acceptance among smallholder farmers remains largely unknown. Thus, this paper assesses the farmer demand and willingness-to-pay (WTP) for sweetpotato silage-based diet as pig feed by smallholder farmers in Uganda. The information for the study was collected through secondary data review and semi-structured interviews to assess farmer WTP. The 256 semi-structured interviews were randomly drawn from 16 purposive clusters formed at a radius of 3 km around 16 farmers piloting sweetpotato silage-based diets for pig feed. The results show that pig farming is mainly the responsibility of women, with farmers’ mean willingness-to-pay price amounting to 0.20 USD per kilogram of sweetpotato silage-based diet. At the mean price, the annual demand for silage was estimated at 17,679 tons, with a market potential of approximately 3.59 million USD. The study concludes that, at the mean willingness-to-pay price, there is a substantial market potential that can be exploited by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) venturing in the livestock feed industry.

Abstract This study is based on time-series data from the combined cycle utility gas turbines consisting of three-gas turbine units and one steam turbine unit. We construct a multi-stage vector autoregressive model for the nominal operation of powerplant assuming sparsity in the association among variables and use this as a basis for anomaly detection and prediction. This prediction is compared with the time-series data of the plant-operation containing anomalies. Granger causality networks, which are based on the associations between the time series streams, are learned as an important implication from the vector autoregressive modelling. Anomaly is detected by comparing the observed measurements against their predicted value.

ABSTRACT The majority of the smallholder farmers mainly used clue implements. However, the extent to which they are determined to change such practice remains unknown. This paper investigates the smallholders’ willingness to pay (WTP) for tractor services, factors that affect the smallholders’ WTP for tractor services as well as factors that affect the amount of money the smallholder is willing to pay for tractor services. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to collect data from 280 respondents in the study area. The contingent valuation methodology was used to measure the smallholders’ WTP. Descriptive statistics and the double hurdle model were used to analyse the results. The majority of the smallholder farmers were willing to pay for tractor-use. Age, farm size and location affect the smallholder’ WTP for tractor services. Expenditure and location affect the amount of money willing to pay for tractor services by the smallholder. There is a prospective growth for hired tractor services business due to smallholders’ WTP. It was suggested that entrepreneurs should invest in the business of tractor hired services since the farmers were willing to pay for their services. More researchers should be done on how to sustain the smallholders’ demand and WTP for tractor services.
