As the usage of the Android smart phones has been considerably increasing, a lot of applications have been developed for the benefits of mobile users. In the past, many applications have been designed aiming to help physically disabled persons. This paper presents an android application which providers several options for controlling the movement of wheelchairs effectively. The proposed application enables People with Disabilities (PWDs) to operate the wheel chair with minimum effort. Apart from voice commands, the proposed application detects and measures the tilt change, and moves the wheelchair based on the degree of the tilt. It also provides a soft joystick as in mobile games to ease the operation of the wheelchairs. Furthermore, sensors that are fixed in the wheelchair can detect and avoid obstacles when the chair is on the move. Hence, it ensures the safety while using the wheelchairs. The proposed application will help both physically challenged persons and elders to operate the wheelchairs more comfortably.

Paper describes a smart, key and a motor controlled wheel chair. This is been designed for the disabled persons and aged ones. It is a “Key-controlled Wheel chair” that follows the commands given. The commands are given by a smart phone which has Bluetooth and the command is transmitted to the Line follower Arduino board. For example, when the user gives command like “Go to room number 2‟ then chair will move in forward direction then goes to room number 2 and likewise, when the user gives command like “Go to Back position‟ it moves towards back likewise “Left‟, “Right” and “Stop‟ for making the wheelchair to stop. This is designed for saving the cost, time and energy of the disabled persons. IR sensors are used and they help in detecting the obstacles in the passage.

A wheel chair is a mechanically operated device that allows the user to move about independently. This minimizes the user's personal effort and force required to move the wheelchair wheels. Furthermore, it allows visually or physically handicapped people to go from one location to another. Voice commands and button controls can be used to operate wheelchairs. In recent years, there has been a lot of interest in smart wheelchairs. These gadgets are very handy while traveling from one location to another. The devices can also be utilized in nursing homes where the elderly have difficulties moving about. For individuals who have lost their mobility, the gadgets are a godsend. Different types of smart wheelchairs have been created in the past, but new generations of wheelchairs are being developed and utilized that incorporate the use of artificial intelligence and therefore leave the user with a little to tamper with. The project also intends to develop a comparable wheel chair that has some intelligence and so assists the user in his or her mobility.

In this technological world, smartphones can be considered as one of the most far-reaching inventions. It plays a vital role in connecting people socially. The number of mobile users using an Android based smartphone has increased rapidly since last few years resulting in organizations, cyber cell departments, government authorities feeling the need to monitor the activities on certain targeted devices in order to maintain proper functionality of their respective jobs. Also with the advent of smartphones, Android became one of the most popular and widely used Operating System. Its highlighting features are that it is user friendly, smartly designed, flexible, highly customizable and supports latest technologies like IoT. One of the features that makes it exclusive is that it is based on Linux and is Open Source for all the developers. This is the reason why our project Mackdroid is an Android based application that collects data from the remote device, stores it and displays on a PHP based web page. It is primarily a monitoring service that analyzes the contents and distributes it in various categories like Call Logs, Chats, Key logs, etc. Our project aims at developing an Android application that can be used to track, monitor, store and grab data from the device and store it on a server which can be accessed by the handler of the application.

The 40th Anniversary Edition of Taylor, Walton and Young’s New Criminology, published in 2013, opened with these words: ‘The New Criminology was written at a particular time and place, it was a product of 1968 and its aftermath; a world turned upside down’. We are at a similar moment today. Several developments have been, and are turning, our 21st century world upside down. Among the most profound has been the emergence of a new earth, that the ‘Anthropocene’ references, and ‘cyberspace’, a term first used in the 1960s, which James Lovelock has recently termed a ‘Novacene’, a world that includes both human and artificial intelligences. We live today on an earth that is proving to be very different to the Holocene earth, our home for the past 12,000 years. To appreciate the Novacene one need only think of our ‘smart’ phones. This world constitutes a novel domain of existence that Castells has conceived of as a terrain of ‘material arrangements that allow for simultaneity of social practices without territorial contiguity’ – a world of sprawling material infrastructures, that has enabled a ‘space of flows’, through which massive amounts of information travel. Like the Anthropocene, the Novacene has brought with it novel ‘harmscapes’, for example, attacks on energy systems. In this paper, we consider how criminology has responded to these harmscapes brought on by these new worlds. We identify ‘lines of flight’ that are emerging, as these challenges are being met by criminological thinkers who are developing the conceptual trajectories that are shaping 21st century criminologies.

AbstractThe mobile device market, particularly for smart phones, has experienced incredible growth over the past five years. What sets this market apart is the use of applications or apps for just about anything from information to purchases. The purpose of the study was to examine the effectiveness of branded apps on consumers’ attitudes toward brands as well as purchase intentions. The sample was drawn from students enrolled at a southwestern university in the United States, resulting in 50 usable questionnaires. Results of Pearson’s correlation analysis indicated that using branded apps strongly influenced users’ attitudes toward brands; however, using branded apps had a smaller impact on purchase intentions. As well, attitudes towards the branded apps, although significant, had a limited impact on purchase intentions. Implications of the findings were then discussed.

Abstract Background People with disabilities often face a range of social and economic adversities. Evidence suggests that these disadvantages result in poorer mental health. Some research also indicates that people with disabilities are more likely experience thoughts about suicide than people without disability, although most of this research is based on small cross-sectional samples. Methods We explored the relationship between self-reported disability (measured at baseline) and likelihood of reporting thoughts of suicide (measured at follow up) using a large longitudinal cohort of Australian males. A logistic regression model was conducted with thoughts of suicide within the past 12 months (yes or no) as the outcome and disability as the exposure. The models adjusted for relevant confounders, including mental health using the SF-12 MCS, and excluded males who reported thoughts of suicide at baseline. Results After adjustment, there was a 1.48 (95% CI: 0.98–2.23, P = 0.063) increase in the odds of thoughts of suicide among men who also reported a disability. The size of association was similar to that of being unemployed. Conclusions Males reporting disability may also suffer from thoughts of suicide. We speculate that discrimination may be one explanation for the observed association. More research on this topic is needed.

The purpose of the current study was to examine the attitudes of Nigerians towards physically challenged persons. The population of the study constituted civil servants. A total of two hundred and twenty participants comprising males and females were randomly selected from the Enugu and Kogi states civil service as the research participants. Data for the study was generated using three research instruments, including the 24-item Scale of Attitude Toward Disabled Persons (SADP), The Religious commitment inventory (RCI-10), and Rosenbergs self-esteem scale (R-SES). The multiple regression analysis results showed that religious commitment significantly predicted attitude towards physically challenged persons. However, the findings also found no significant influence of self-esteem on attitude towards the physically challenged. It is recommended that more research be conducted to fully understand the determinants of attitudes towards the physically challenged in society.

Aim: The method of utilization of IoT and other evolving techniques in medical equipment design field is discussed in the present paper. A remotely managed interface equipped in a wheel chair cum bed is embedded for elderly or physically challenged people. With the help of a camera embedded in the proposed solution a real time remote monitoring of the patient is achieved using a android application over the concerned person. For achieving the above said purpose, the use of linear actuators has been done. This paper further aims to explore the hidden potentials of merger of all these fields to benefit the end users. Objectives: Remote monitoring of health of the patient through a cloud based android application. Automatic adjustment of the wheelchair into bed and vice-versa. Automatic stool passing chamber facility is available under the proposed model. Injuries during transportation of the patient from one chair to another (or chair to bed) have been limited in our designed model. Methods: The basic mechanism of proposed wheelchair has been designed using the computer aided design software. The basic methodology adopted for development of prototype & subsequent “user review analysis” is displayed below. The CAD Model of the wheelchair cum stretcher was designed using the “Solid works solid modelling techniques”. The basic structure has been designed with several modifications when compared to the conventional wheelchair design. The computer made design was then utilized for final fabrication of prototype. The prototype was tested for endurance, Load bearing capacity and customer comfort during various phases of development. The feedbacks of several subjects were recorded for future utilization in improved design & fabrication Results: The proposed model is of utmost importance as the number of critical patients like accident cases, critical pre and post-surgery cases are increasing day by day. Sometimes these patients need in-time medication during transition in ambulance either picked up from house or are referred to nearby big hospitals. During transition or in hospital critical patients can be handled efficiently by a specialist doctor through his/her smart phone applications. It also optimizes the services of specialist doctors as we find the shortage of specialists in Indian hospitals. In a nutshell, this Wheel Chair system can be moved anywhere due to it portability. Following are the most highlighted features: 1. Authorized relatives and Doctors can see and interact with the patient at any time remotely on his/her smart phone. 2. Authorized relatives and Doctors can see the Vital Sign of patient like BP, ECG, and Pulse etc. at any time through Smart Phone. 3. Doctor can instruct the care taker to release the emergency drugs through Infusion Pump. 4. Doctor can plan the exceptions, drug infusion, alarm etc. 5. System is portable and can easily be shifted to ambulance. All transmissions are wireless so there is no hassle of wires and connectivity. Conclusion: The presented work is limited to the design and fabrication of a new model of wheelchair, which works as a stretcher and has the locomotive capabilities. The key feature of design is its versatility and adaptability to various working conditions. The feedback obtained from various subjects during the testing of wheelchair shows their confidence and fair degree of comfort which they felt while using the wheelchair. The easy and user-friendly use of android application helps to monitor the health of the patient. The smart phone camera helped to achieve this data. The analysis of the data can be done in the cloud base station. Linear actuator has proved to be the low cost and highly reliable equipment to propel the wheelchair.
