The objective of this study was to Assess the extent to which the female household’s socio-economic capacity affects enrolment in TVET” in Rwanda. Females have been sensitized on the availability, benefits of TVET, and that most of them meet the required qualifications to be enrolled and yet the uptake of females to TVET remains low. Rwandans are classified in community socio economic categories known as Ubudehe. The latter refers to the long-standing Rwandan practice and culture of collective action and mutual support to solve problems within a community. It allocates each household to one of four income and poverty-related categories as basis to access mainly public services including not limited to TVET. The study analyzed the relationship of the Household socio economic status and enrolment of females in TVET in Rwanda to attempt to answer why females are not embracing TVET as a promising avenue of acquisition of professional skills. The study used both qualitative and quantitative-triangulation methodology. The study used questionnaires, FGDs, Interviews and secondary data as data sources. The respondents included 400 females, female’s parents, local leaders, TVET and IPRCS staff for the KIIs. The research performed a simple linear regression analysis to find out predictor factors to enroll in TVET hence access to TVET that supplemented the correlation analysis.The study found that the household socio economic status showed very strong correlation to the enrolment of females with a p <.001 with a negative Pearson’s coefficient of r, -.628 **. The study showed that household socio economic status was statistically significant predictor of the enrolment of female in Technical Vocational Education Training, β. -.415, t (-16.090), p<.001, R² = .394. The results revealed that the higher the level of the household socio economic status, the less the enrolment of females in the TVET Education. The results indicated that the more a household increased income and became wealthier the more negative perception “labelling TVET as Second best option therefore the less their kids joined TVET. The study indicated that TVET scholarship loan plays an important role in the enrolment of Females in TVET. However, it recommends the Government to adjust or remove the wealth classification (Ubudehe category) from the list of criteria considered for a student to acquire a TVET scholarship loan.

This paper reports the findings of a study that delved into the roles of industries and international organisations in improving Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria. A survey design was used. The 152 principals of the government technical colleges in the country comprised the population of the study. Seventy-six (representing 50 percent) of these principals were selected to participate in the study. These were selected using stratified random sampling. Data was collected using a 10-item questionnaire. The data was analysed using means and student-t test at the level of significance p = .05. The study revealed that industries and international organizations have great roles to play in improving TVET in the country. Hence, it is recommended that government makes policies that will promote collaboration between TVET institutions and these organisations.


Tobacco is the major money crop of Malawi and it contributed the maximum of the national income. Malawi is the major contributor in the tobacco production of the world and many of the cigarette companies are using the burley leaf tobacco produced in the Malawian farm due to its rich taste and quality. Tobacco is a major smoking device used by millions of people all over the Malawi who can’t afford the pleasure of smoking a cigarette because of the price that is prohibitive taking in to consideration the economic status of the majority of smokers all over the nation. Smoking tobacco suited the financial strength of the emerging industries workers and agricultural labourers. In this study made an attempt to study the health and socioeconomic aspects of the tobacco workers, to find out the nature of work conditions of the tobacco workers, to study the awareness of tobacco workers with regard to family problems and to find out their participation in religious gathering. This study found that tobacco workers were lives in most of the rural areas of Malawi through secondary data pertained from the Government and Non Government sources. Population method was adopted to collect the information from the tobacco workers in the study area. This study found that Tobacco is not only injurious to health of the smokers and also to the makers of the Tobacco (Tobacco workers) too. Socio-economic status of the tobacco worker also very poor when compare with the minimum wages in the study area. These tobacco workers are forced to engage this sector due to non availability of other kind of jobs and lack of skills to engage in the other jobs. This study concludes that Government and Non Governmental organizations should take necessary actions to improve the health and socio economic status through providing vocational training and guidance to enhance their skills and help them in self employment opportunities. Further, it opens up new avenues for the future researchers to contribute more on this to enhance the health condition from all the parts of the world.

The paper intends to study the socio-economic conditions of the tribals residing in the remote hilly and forest areas, in the area of Thane and Raigad districts in Maharashtra. The people are very poor economically, socially and educationally. They are living hand to mouth. They depend mostly on the forest produce and agriculture for their livelihood. The government officials for the upliftment and development of the tribal are over there but many people are not aware about the government programmers and schemes. In terms of methodology, both primary and secondary data have been used. Data are both qualitative and quantitative in nature. Wherever necessary, quantitative data have been presented in tabular and graph forms. The paper concludes that in both Thane and Raigad districts, the socio-economic status of the tribal people is substantially lower than the general people. There is an urgent need to launch income generating, educational, and health awareness programmes to help them to take up opportunities given by NGOs and government.

Skilled human capital is highly important in economic development. This career aspiration is to create a skilled workforce in a country. A lack of Orang Asli involvement in vocational fields is worrisome for many parties, especially the government. Thus, this study aims to explore the participation and involvement of Orang Asli youths in Vocational Education and Training (VET). Qualitative research methods were used in this study to provide in-depth knowledge of the involvement of Orang Asli youths in VET. Ten Orang Asli youths from various ethnics groups, aged 17¬–18, were selected as study participants. Data were obtained from semi-structured interviews and document analysis. From the analysed data, themes were pointed out and a triangulation technique was performed to determine the validity. The findings showed that awareness about VET among the Orang Asli youth is satisfactory. This paper also will discuss the involvement of Orang Asli youth in VET courses nationally and the unemployment among the Orang Asli youth because of their lack of skills and training required by employers. This paper also presents conclusions and recommendations to improve the participation of Orang Asli youth, especially in employment prospects and to enhance their socio-economic status among the communities for a brighter future.

The specific objectives of the study were to determine the socio-cultural factors that prevent girls from enrolling in TVET and establish the level of awareness of girls and parents about TVET and its benefits. The study answered why females are not embracing TVET as a promising avenue of education. The study used a case study strategy and applied both qualitative and quantitative approach (triangulation) at levels of data collection and analysis. The study used questionnaires, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), Interviews and secondary data as data sources. The respondents included 400 females, parents and local leaders, TVET and integrated Polytechnic Regional Centers (IPRCs) staff for the Key Informant Interviews (KIIs). The research performed a simple linear regression analysis to find out predictor factors to enroll in TVET hence access to TVET that supplemented the correlation analysis. The findings of the study revealed social and cultural factors that prevent girls from enrolling in TVET include the belief that males have greater innate technical capacity than females and are thus predisposed to excel at programs with sciences and Mathematics backgrounds. Male Inheritance defined as investing in male for the continuity of the family, parent’s belief of females’ ineptitude at TVET labeled as male reserved areas, physical infrastructure variables such as distance from home to Training centers and female boarding facilities are additional factors which indicated a statistical significance with p <0.001. The study results indicated that the higher level of education of parents, the lower the enrolment of females in TVET Education. Many educated parents believe that TVET was for the failures and poor families. The study indicated that there was a discrepancy between the high expectations of enrolling in TVET prior to enrolling rated at 90%, 91.5%, 61.5 %, 84.5 %, 79 % compared to the actual benefits after enrolling rated at 32%, 37%, 50.5%, 62.0%, 54.5%. The study showed the lack of information and underestimation of the value of TVET however increased access to information among females and parents led to increased enrolment of females in TVET schools.

Purpose With critical reviews of previous studies in workplace learning, this paper aims to investigate workplace learning for pre-service teachers’ practice and quality teaching and learning in technical vocational education and training: key to professional development. Design/methodology/approach The study adopted multistage sampling technique to select sample for the study. Empirical analysis was adopted to analyse the data collected from technical vocational education and training pre-service teachers. Findings The result of the study revealed that the constructs of social learning theory had a stronger linkage with the constructive teaching than traditional management. Originality/value This study emphasizes the need to adequately train pre-service teachers on instructional delivery processes, building strong relationship with learners and build the ability to organize and execute necessary actions required to successfully carry out a specific educational task in a particular context.

The Households having low socio-economic status possess less resource in term of wealth and income to resist against any kind of external shocks. Apart from heath shocks (physical and mental disabilities) there are numerous other factors that force them to follow subsistence life style having low per capita income. A primary level data has been collected to examine the socio economic status of households in Southern Punjab for the year 2019.The findings show that household size, occupation, dependency ratio, mental disability and physical disability are negatively affecting economic development across the region. However, age, education of the household head, own house, spouse ‘s participation, remittances, number of earners in the household and value of physical assets are increasing economic development in Southern Punjab. Developing strategies, adequate planning and their timely implementation is very crucial for the government to pursue the process of economic growth and development of the poor countries like Pakistan.

Based on demand for professional labor and the growing economy, the Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) system has been transformed into a system that works to develop and equip individuals with current technical skills based on industry demand. The government has undertaken various efforts to strengthen the field of Technical and Vocational Education. Among the efforts undertaken was the transformation of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. Kurikulum Standard Kolej Vokasional (KSKV) syllabus has been introduced to guide the teaching process at Vocational College. The KSKV was developed based on the latest industry requirements under the National Occupational Skill Standard (NOSS). Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) is responsible for ensuring that the skills provided to students meet NOSS standards. However, there are issues and challenges faced in implementing the transformation, which is the level of knowledge and technical skills proficiency that lecturers have that is an important aspect of enabling educators to cope with growing technology. In line with the latest technological advances and industry demands, the issue that has begun among lecturers is the preparation of lecturers in terms of knowledge and technical skills related to the latest technologies updated in KSKV. This will further impact the quality of teaching delivery delivered by lecturers at Vocational College. Finally, the latest technical skills are essential to enable the teaching process delivered by the lecturers to be mastered by the students and thus produce qualified Vocational College graduates according to the latest industry employment standards.
