Brick is the former construction material, a standard-sized non load bearing building component. The ancient bricks manufactured by clay, earth or mud. By 2007 the new ‘fly-ash’ brick made up of cement and flyash which is reliable, weather & acid resistant. The cement is a hugely used building material and liberates CO2 leading to pollution. To minimize pollution and a step to advancement in sustainable development. The current research results to geo polymer brick, where the cement is replaced with GGBS, silica fume and Kadapa slab dust. For bonding, polymers were used with limited water content. Hence produced brick is a hybrid geo polymer brick with multi material combination. Fly ash 75%- GGBS 25% as a base material. GGBS is partially replaced with silica fume and Kadapa slab dust by 2 to 5%. Evaluated through compressive strength results in which we found three optimum proportions such as FA 75%-GGBS22%-SF3% & 75% FA-22% GGBS -3% KSP

In recent years, sustainability and environmental effect of concrete became the main concern. Substituting cement with the other cementitious material without decreasing mechanical properties of a mixture could save energy, reduce greenhouse effect due to mining, calcination and limestone refining. Therefore, some industrial by-products such as fly ash, silica fume, and Ground Iron Blast Furnace Slag (GIBFS) would be used in this study to substitute cement and aggregate. This substitution would be applied on the porous concrete mixture to minimize the environmental effect. Slag performance will be optimized by trying out variations of fly ash, silica fume, and slag as cement substitution material in mortar mixture. The result is narrowed into two types of substitution. First, reviewed from the fly ash substitution effect on binder material, highest compressive strength 16.2 MPa was obtained from mixture composition 6% fly ash, 3% silica fume and 17% grinding granular blast-furnace slag. Second, reviewed from slag types as cement substitution and silica fume substitution, highest compressive strength 15.2 MPa was obtained from mortar specimens with air-cooled blast furnace slag. It composed with binder material 56% Portland composite cement, 15% fly ash, 3% silica fume and 26% air-cooled blast furnace slag. Considering the cement substitution, the latter mixture was chosen.

The electroplating sludge may pose serious threat to human health and surrounding environment without safe treatment. This paper investigated the feasibility of using electroplating sludge as subgrade backfill materials, by evaluating the mechanical properties and environmental risk of the cement-coal fly ash solidified sludge. In this study, Portland cement and coal fly ash are used to solidify/stabilize the sludge. After curing for 7, 14, and 28 days, the stabilization/solidification sludge specimens were subject to a series of mechanical, leaching, and microcosmic tests. It was found that the compressive strength increased with the increase of cement content, curing time, and the cement replacement by coal fly ash besides water content. Among these factors, the impact of water content on the compressive strength is most noticeable. It was observed that the compressive strength declined by 87.1% when the water content increased from 0% to 10%. Besides, leaching tests showed that the amount of leaching heavy metals were under the standard limit. These results demonstrated utilization of electroplating sludge in subgrade backfill material may provide an alternative for the treatment of electroplating sludge.

Block made of mud is a building material used in making wall for building that is made fromsand, cement, and fly ash using certain percentage mud in sand. This research aimed to know theeffect of the use of lapindo mud towards the compressive strength, the absorption of block waterwith the mud dosage in sand are: 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%. This research was an experimentalresearch; each design was made in size 10x20x40 cm using 5% of fly ash and without fly ash.The result of this research showed that the highest compressive strength was raised in 10%mud in sand with 5% fly ash that was 195 kg/cm2 or increased about 3.44 kg/cm2 within increasingpercentage about 10.651% towards the compressive of block without lapindo mud with 5% of flyash, and was included in class I quality of block. While for the 30% and 40% mud percentage islower compared with normal compressive strength of block. The test result of water absorption oflapindo mud block showed the higher value than 20% for lapindo mud block with 5% fly ash, inframing the mud blocks as the wall, those blocks need to be soaked first because the absorptionvalue of block is higher than 20%. Lapindo mud block without 5% fly ash has bricks water absorptionless than 20%, while in framing those bricks, they don’t need to be soaked because the absorptionof brick if lower than 20%. By using fly ash in mud block, we can get the higher compressivestrength and the lower water absorption.Keyword: Porong Mud, Block, Fly Ash, Compressive Strength, Absorption


The investigative studies on mechanical performance & behaviour, of Geopolymer Concrete (GPC) before and after the exposure to elevated temperatures (of 200 0 C -1000 0 C with an increment of 100 0 C). Indicate that the GPC Specimens Exhibited better Compressive strength at higher temperatures than that of those made by regular OPC Concrete with M30 Grade. The chronological changes in the geopolymeric structure upon exposure to these temperatures and their reflections on the thermal behaviour have also been explored. The SEM images indicate GPC produced by fly ash , metakaolin and silica fume, under alkaline conditions form Mineral binders that are not only non-flammable and but are also non-combustible resins and binders. Further the Observations drawn disclose that the mass and compressive strength of concrete gets reduced with increase in temperatures.


This paper aimed to investigate the mechanical characteristics of HSC of M60 concrete adding 25% of fly ash to cement and sand and percentage variations of silica fumes 0%,5% and 10% to cement with varying sizes of 10mm,6mm,2mm and powder of granite aggregate with w/c of 0.32. Specimens are tested for compressive strength using 10cm X 10cmX10cm cubes for 7,14,28 days flexural strength was determined by using 10cmX10cmX50cm beam specimens at 28 days and 15cm diameter and 30cm height cylinder specimens at 28 days using super plasticizers of conplast 430 as a water reducing agent. In this paper the experimental set up is made to study the mechanical properties of HSC with and without coarse aggregate with varying sizes as 10mm, 6mm, 2mm and powder. Similarly, the effect of silica fume on HSC by varying its percentages as 0%, 5% and 10% in the mix studied. For all mixes 25% extra fly ash has been added for cement and sand.
