The article presents an overview of the transport situation on Polish railways during the first and second waves of the CO-VID-19 pandemic. The emerging trends in the use of rail transport are characterised. In order to meet market needs, rail transport should be open to any technical solution that reduces the possibility of horizontal transmission of infections to, both, travellers and transport workers. Examples are given of measures which improve safety during transport in this respect, as a fundamental condition for the systematic return of travellers to the railways. Abstract The liberalisation of the coach, air and rail transport market sheds new light on a relatively unexplored field of comparative tort law: the rules governing the liability of transportation companies for accidents involving third parties. Through an assessment of recent developments under French and German Law, this article reflects on the emerging trends of those tort rules, induced or highlighted by the market opening process. The existing strict liability regimes for railway and coach carriers, already subject to a significant tightening process, raise new questions as to the exact circle of persons liable for injuries, since the market liberalisation goes hand in hand with the unbundling of infrastructure and operations.

Currently, the influence of transport on the environment represents a serious problem, especially in terms of energy consumption and generation of gases causing global warming. The contribution on the topic of comparing energy consumption and greenhouse gases emissions on relation Brno – Jihlava thus aims to describe generation of emissions in the current types of transport and their calculation according to EN 16258:2012. The results of the calculations will be expressed in emission intensity units to the number of passengers transported. The EN 16258:2012 calculations will be applied to passenger rail transport. In particular, energy intensity and generation of greenhouse gases will be monitored in relation to travelling the distance between Brno and Jihlava.

Size And Structure

The purpose of the article was to examine the passenger rail transport in Hungary. The scope of the research included transport on the public and generally accessible rail network. In the article there has been analyzed the size and structure of the passenger rail transport and their share in total transportation in the years 2001-2014. There was also examined the traffic volume of passenger trains running during weekdays in 2015. Hungary is a country where the rail has one of the largest shares in service of the passenger traffic in Europe. In the analyzed period, the railways transported in this country over 140 million passengers per year (it has to be remembered that the population of that country was less than 10 millions). Despite the popularity of this type of transport in the analyzed period the number of the passenger rail transport has been decreased.

The Impact

Abstract The article looks into the influence that supply chain management has in the operations of a passenger rail company in South Africa. The case analysis was based on desktop research on PRASA annual reports from 2009 to 2015 including the two Corporate Plans from 2015 to 2019. Successes and challenges encountered in the organisation will be analysed. Areas to be analysed include enhancement of technical skills, the refurbishment programme, patronage growth, customer satisfaction and passenger safety among others. The article covers the impact of supply chain management (SCM) on the general corporate performance; analyses the risks and disruptions derived from the various supply chain sources undermining supply chain performance; identified, shared and promoted the uptake of best practice in supply chain management.
