Currently, the influence of transport on the environment represents a serious problem, especially in terms of energy consumption and generation of gases causing global warming. The contribution on the topic of comparing energy consumption and greenhouse gases emissions on relation Brno – Jihlava thus aims to describe generation of emissions in the current types of transport and their calculation according to EN 16258:2012. The results of the calculations will be expressed in emission intensity units to the number of passengers transported. The EN 16258:2012 calculations will be applied to passenger rail transport. In particular, energy intensity and generation of greenhouse gases will be monitored in relation to travelling the distance between Brno and Jihlava.

<p>The occurrence of severe haze events remains a serious problem in Beijing. Previous studies suggested that the frequency of weather patterns conducive to haze may increase with global warming. The new Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) cover a wide range of uncertainties in aerosol and greenhouse gases emissions. Global and Chinese aerosol emissions are projected to decrease in most SSPs, while increases in greenhouse gases and global warming will continue for the rest of the century. The future, therefore, remains unclear.</p><p>We quantified the air pollution over Beijing and associated weather patterns using multiple indices calculated from the SSPs</p><p>We show that the occurrence of weather patterns conducive to the formation of haze significantly increases by the end of the century due to increases in greenhouse gases. Aerosol reductions also cause an increase in their occurrence, but reduce the severity of haze, and overall reducing aerosol emissions will be beneficial.</p>

CO2 is the most frequently implicated in global warming among the various greenhouse gases associated with climate change. Chinese government has been taking serious measures to control energy consumption to reduce CO2 emissions. This study applies the grey forecasting model to estimate future CO2 emissions and carbon intensity in Shijiazhuang from 2010 until 2020. Forecasts of CO2 emissions in this study show that the average residual error of the GM(1, 1) is below 1.5%. The average increasing rate of CO2 emissions will be about 6.71%; and the carbon intensity will be 2.10 tons/104GDP until year 2020. If the GDP of Shijiazhuang city can be quadruple, the carbon intensity will be half to the 2005 levels until 2020. The findings of this study provide a valuable reference with which the Shijiazhuang government can formulate measures to reduce CO2 emissions by curbing the unnecessary the consumption of energy.

At present, the impact of transport on the environment constitutes a serious problem. This mainly concerns energy consumption and production of greenhouse gases (GHG) that via their participation in greenhouse effect intensification contribute to global warming. In this paper, the calculations provided by the EN 16258: 2012 methodology will be applied to two modes of transport: railway and road transport. Subsequently, the methodology will be applied to a case study of a selected nonelectrified railway line in comparison with parallel road transport. In particular, energy consumption and production of greenhouse gases will be monitored depending on traveling the distance between selected cities in the Czech Republic.

As known to all, the emission of greenhouse gases is mainly caused by human activities. If we could cut down the emission, we could gradually prevent the influence of climate change. Relevant research shows that in the field of energy consumption, the control of CO2 emission is the most effective way to save energy. Thus, reducing the architectural energy consumption is one of the most crucial factors to realize global climate goals. Although more and more scholars prefer to use the word ‘dilemma’ to describe the urgent contradiction between architectural construction and environment, and energy as well, I still want to discuss the influence of global warming on the architecture industry, and explain why it is an opportunity as well.

This chapter focuses on the case study of China, which is facing grave issues regarding environment and global warming. Hence, the “Airpocalypse” in China led to need and debate about the sustainability of the environment. In this chapter, an effort has been made to analyze the environmental sustainability risk which the country of China can have for the increasing rate of global warming, and how this part of region can have a transnational impact on other neighboring countries when it comes to the cause of making environment pure from pollutants, carbon dioxide, and coal emissions. The methodology of this research is qualitative, descriptive, and analytical in nature. This chapter includes the variable of environmental sustainability which is dependent on the energy consumption of industries of China involved in emission of greenhouse gases.

This paper is a critical review of research on long-distance passenger rail energy consumption that examines the factors that affect the energy intensity of rail, the comparative energy intensity of alternative modes (auto, air and bus), and the sources of discrepancies between different published energy intensity figures. The ambiguities underlying those discrepancies point to a fundamental question about what phenomenon is being quantified in energy intensity analysis, and whether any transport mode can be said to universally have an energy intensity advantage over other modes at all times, places and scales. This ontological question may be as significant as the epistemic conflicts dominating discourses over competing studies and analytical approaches.
