Students are accessed using paper and pen on cognitive abilities in Nigeria. This method of assessment encourages different forms of examination malpractices. The threat of examination malpractices on the validity of examination outcomes has resulted in some examination bodies adopting different methods of examination. One of such methods is the computer based test (CBT). Using survey research method, this study investigated the levels of competency in computer literacy skills possessed by senior secondary school students. Three research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Problems encountered by the students and prospective methods of enhancing computer based test (CBT) acceptance in Nigeria were also documented. A total of 310 copies of the questionnaire were administered to students who participated in the 2015 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at Afrihub Information and Communication Technology (CBT) centre, Institution of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu and Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu and 237 representing 76% were adequately completed and found usable. The findings revealed among others that majority of the respondents confirmed that CBT can curb examination malpractice. Majority of candidates were also found to prefer CBT to the paper and pencil test (PPT). The mean, standard deviation and Pearson‟s Correlation Analysis showed that the respondent is preference for CBT were sensitive across gender. While improving electricity was identified as critical in enhancing CBT examinations, poor ICT skills on the part of students and the invigilators were also identified as the major problems facing the implementation of JAMB CBT examination in Nigeria.

Current theories of teaching favour students-centred classrooms. In Literature-in-English lessons, active participation of students is essential for optimal learning. This study examined the level of students' active participation in Literature-in-English classrooms as the major reason for the high failure rates of Nigerian students who take this subject in the yearly senior secondary school examinations. The study was carried out in Ibadan metropolis, Oyo State. The mixed method research design was adopted. Class Observation Schedule (r=0.9) and Interview Guide for Teachers were used to gather the data. Random sampling technique was used to select three Local Government Areas (LGAs), 27 public senior secondary schools (9 from each LGA) and one Literature-in-English teacher from each school. All the teachers were observed twice during lessons while 12 of them were interviewed. Results from the quantitative data showed that the classroom process was teacher-dominated, and students' level of participation was very low. Students hardly asked questions and teachers did not use teaching techniques that encouraged active participation. Teachers identified students' inability to buy the prescribed literary texts, lack of interest in reading and poor language proficiency as some of the factors that contribute to students' failure. Several recommendations were made to enhance the teaching-learning process and maximize learning.

The research area of brain plasticity studies indicates that individuals can train and improve their cognitive abilities throughout life. In addition, more and more computerized training tools are presented in recent studies. The purpose of this study is to represent studies of the last decade in the field of cognitive training with the use of Information and Communication Tech-nologies, to record the cognitive improvement techniques used, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of these intervention programs. As indicated by the literature review, computer-based tools, mobile training apps and video games could be used in intervention studies for cognitive improve-ment. In addition, cognitive training techniques seem to be significantly ef-fective for the cognitive improvement of healthy or cognitive impaired in-dividuals.

Abstract This study investigated the effect of three instructional elements on achievement in computer-based mathematics instructions. The subjects were senior secondary school students who used four versions of computer-based instructions developed on compact disc to learn about volume of solid shapes. The four versions of the programme were (1) a full version that had the three instructional elements (2) a version without objective (3) a version without practice (4) a version without examples. Results indicated that the full package, which included objective, practice and examples, had significant effect on students′ achievement in the computer-based mathematics instructions. Furthermore, of the three elements, practice, had the most effect on the learners′ achievement. Implications of the findings on development of computer-based instructions are also discussed.

This study examined school –related factors (school location, library resources, furniture and
ventilation) as predictors of academic achievement of students in Literature-in-English in
Ibadan Metropolis. The study employed a descriptive research design of survey type. The
research instruments used were School–Related Factors Questionnaire (SRFQ) and
Literature-in-English Achievement Test. The sample consisted of 400 students
proportionately sampled from ten (10) randomly selected senior secondary schools in Ibadan.
Data collected were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. Findings revealed that
school location(B = 4.087; t= 6.507, P>0.05),instructional materials(B = 4.061; t= 5.710,
P<0.05),classroom furniture( ), and appropriate ventilation all had significant relative
contribution to students achievement in Literature in English. The composite influence of the
four factors was also significant. Based on the findings, recommendation were made that
school owners should improve on facilities provided in the schools, Mobile libraries should
also be provided in and around all the local government areas to grant students access to
reading materials.

The main purpose of this study was to determine the relationship among locus of control, personality and academic achievements of senior secondary Students in Sokoto metropolis. The samples were drawn from a total of 360 students in seven senior secondary schools purposively selected in Sokoto metropolis. For this study, adopted version of Olumolaye’s self-other motivation scale, an adopted version of Akimboye’s subscale A of adolescent personal data inventory and students' JS III examination results of English, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social studies to measure the variables of locus of control, personality and academic achievements. Four hypotheses were generated and tested in this study. Multiple regression analysis and Pearson product moment correlation coefficient were used to analyze data collected. Result of the study showed that there exist significant relationship among locus of control, personality and academic achievement, a significant relationship exists between the personality of students and their academic achievement. One of the recommendations of this study is that teachers and counsellors should attempt to handle students individually as students vary on the locus of control scale and personality.

We described the issues of different age education in a rural school and presented the main components of information literacy of school students (obtaining information; evaluating information; using information). The concept of “information” is disclosed. We studied the relationship of information literacy with such types as network literacy (the ability to analyze, collect and use information coming from social networks); digital literacy (the ability to understand and use information provided by a variety of formats and sources using a computer); internet literacy; computer literacy (knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for understanding information and communication technologies, including hardware, software, systems, networks (local networks and the Internet)); media literacy (knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for understanding all means of (mass) communication and formats in which the creation, storage, transmission and presentation of data, information and knowledge is carried out). We gave examples and analysis of the current situation in rural schools, the reasons why it is necessary to develop and implement information and communication technologies in small schools and the practice of their application. We also described the main directions of development of teachers in rural schools (areas that require special attention when designing a development program for a particular school) and the conditions that are necessary for this.
