In the development of sustainable social housing, the residents, operating staff, and administrative staff - as users - face challenges in relation to a lack of involvement. The aim of this research is to contribute with results regarding these challenges. These contributions to the discussion are based on the results of a qualitative evaluation of sustainable social housing. The results suggest that it can be an advantage to utilise user experiences in the development of future sustainable social housing with a view to strengthening the user involvement process. The argument is that a greater degree of user involvement respects people’s experiences as being a contribution to the development of new projects. In addition, the research suggests that the early involvement of residents, operating staff, and administrative staff can strengthen the sense of project ownership and community, as well as the project’s social sustainability. It is claimed that user involvement can promote social sustainability, which is a significant factor, since the intention behind a project’s sustainability is that the residents will later have ownership and an interest in ensuring that it works in accordance with its intentions.

Following economic growth in the past three decades, rapid urbanization has caused many pronounced issues, such as spatial scarcity and cultural discontinuity, in Chinese historical and cultural cities. In order to better deal with the diversification of underground space resources, data and information, this study introduces a random forest algorithm and proposes a multi-layer information superposition method. According to the characteristics of different information, starting from qualitative and quantitative aspects, we explore the effective performance of the rational development of underground space resources. Taking Yangzhou City, China, as an example, this paper evaluates the suitability and calculates the development volume of urban underground space. The development capacity, potential value, and comprehensive quality of underground space resources are explored in an attempt to demonstrate the practicality and scientificity of the evaluation method for achieving the developmental goals of urban space reconstruction and historic preservation. On this basis, an underground space scale forecast is carried out to provide decision support for relevant planners, managers, and construction personnel that is conducive to the orderly development of urban space, alleviation of increasing human–land conflicts, and coordination of the protection and development of underground space resources in historical and cultural cities, ultimately promoting sustainable development of cities.

Abstract In this paper, a novel application of machine learning algorithms is presented for student levelling. In multicultural countries such as UAE, there are various education curriculums where the sector of private schools and quality assurance is supervising various private schools for many nationalities. As there are various education curriculums in United Arab Emirates, specifically Abu Dhabi, to meet expats’ needs, there are different requirements for registration and success. In addition, there are different age groups for starting education in each curriculum. Every curriculum follows different education methods such as assessment techniques, reassessment rules, and exam boards. Currently, students who transfer to other curriculums are not correctly placed to their appropriate year group as a result of the start and end dates of each academic year as well as due to their date of birth, in which students who are either younger or older for that year group can create gaps in their learning and performance. In addition, pupils’ academic journeys are not stored which create a gap for the schools to track their learning process. In this paper, we propose a computational framework applicable in multicultural countries such as United Arab Emirates in which multi-education systems are implemented. Machine Learning are used to provide the appropriate student’ level aiding shoolds to provide a smooth transition when assigning students to their year groups and provide levelling and differentiation information of pupils for a smooth transition between one education curriculums to another, in which retrieval of their progress is possible. For classification and discriminant analysis of pupils levelling, three machine learning classifiers are utilised including random forest classifier, Artificial Neural Network, and combined classifiers. The simulation results indicated that the proposed machine learning classifiers generated effective performance in terms of accuracy.

Compression and encryption of images are emerging as recent topics in the area of research to improve the performance of data security. A joint lossless image compression and encryption algorithm based on Integer Wavelet Transform (IWT) and the Hybrid Hyperchaotic system is proposed to enhance the security of data transmission. Initially, IWT is used to compress the digital images and then the encryption is accomplished using the Hybrid Hyperchaotic system. A Hybrid Hyperchaotic system; Fractional Order Hyperchaotic Cellular Neural Network (FOHCNN) and Fractional Order Four-Dimensional Modified Chua’s Circuit (FOFDMCC) is used to generate the pseudorandom sequences. The pixel substitution and scrambling are realized simultaneously using Global Bit Scrambling (GBS) that improves the cipher unpredictability and efficiency. In this study, Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) sequence is adopted instead of a binary operation, which provides high resistance to the cipher image against crop attack and salt-and-pepper noise. It was observed from the simulation outcome that the proposed Hybrid Hyperchaotic system with IWT demonstrated more effective performance in image compression and encryption compared with the existing models in terms of parameters such as unified averaged changed intensity, a number of changing pixels rate, and correlation coefficient.

Abstract The technological revolution brought by the Internet of Things (IoT) has mostly relied on cloud computing. However, to satisfy the demands of timesensitive services in the medical industry, Fog Computing, a novel computational platform based on the cloud computing paradigm, has shown to be a useful tool by extending cloud resources to the network’s edge. The current paper examines the role of the fog paradigm in the domain of healthcare decision-making, focusing on its primary advantages in terms of latency, network utilization, and power consumption. A fog-computing based health assessment framework is developed in the current paper. Moreover, based on effective performance parameters, the performance is evaluated and depicted. The results show that the presented strategy can reduce network congestion of the communication network by analyzing information at the local node. Moreover, increased security on health information can be maintained at local fog-node and enhanced data protection from unauthorized access can be acquired. Fog computing offers greater insights into the health condition of patients with enhanced accuracy, precision, reliability and stability.
