Current theories of teaching favour students-centred classrooms. In Literature-in-English lessons, active participation of students is essential for optimal learning. This study examined the level of students' active participation in Literature-in-English classrooms as the major reason for the high failure rates of Nigerian students who take this subject in the yearly senior secondary school examinations. The study was carried out in Ibadan metropolis, Oyo State. The mixed method research design was adopted. Class Observation Schedule (r=0.9) and Interview Guide for Teachers were used to gather the data. Random sampling technique was used to select three Local Government Areas (LGAs), 27 public senior secondary schools (9 from each LGA) and one Literature-in-English teacher from each school. All the teachers were observed twice during lessons while 12 of them were interviewed. Results from the quantitative data showed that the classroom process was teacher-dominated, and students' level of participation was very low. Students hardly asked questions and teachers did not use teaching techniques that encouraged active participation. Teachers identified students' inability to buy the prescribed literary texts, lack of interest in reading and poor language proficiency as some of the factors that contribute to students' failure. Several recommendations were made to enhance the teaching-learning process and maximize learning.

Aim: This study was carried out to investigate the patterns of bullying behaviour among Nigerian secondary school adolescents and to ascertain the link between classroom size and bullying in selected Senior Secondary Schools in Ogun State, Southwestern Nigeria.  Study Design: Cross-sectional survey design. Place of Study: Redeemer’s University Osun State, South Western Nigeria. Methodology: Multistage sampling technique was adopted in this study.  Random sampling technique was used to select Obafemi / Owode Local Government Area (LGA) from Ogun central senatorial district, four Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) from the LGA and 397 students. Participants responded to School Congestion Questionnaire (SCQ) and Adolescent Peer Relation Instrument: Bully/Target (APRI-BT). Descriptive and inferential statistics were used in data analysis Results: Observed prevalence rates included verbal bullying (42.5%), social bullying (42.3%), physical bullying (37.9%) and overall bullying behaviour (44.8%). Class Size (CS) independently and significantly predicted the severities of verbal bullying (R² = .029, p = .001); social bullying (R² = .055, p = .000); physical bullying (R² = .042, p = .000) and overall bullying behaviour (R² = .042, p = .000) among the sample. Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of bullying behaviour among Nigerian secondary school adolescents. Classroom size is a significant predictor of the individual factors of bullying behaviour (verbal bullying, social bullying, and physical bullying) as well as the composite of bullying behaviour among Senior Secondary School students in Nigeria.

Abstract The study assessed using an e-learning device, ‘Opon-Imo’ for agricultural subjects among secondary school students and teachers in Osun State, Nigeria. It determined the teachers’ and students’ extent of use of ‘Opon-Imo’ for agricultural subjects, ascertained their perception towards its value as a learning/teaching aid, and the challenges faced with its use. A multi-stage sampling technique was employed to select 150 students and corresponding 12 teachers instructing them on the agricultural subject(s) to give a total of 162 respondents sampled. Data were collected with a validated questionnaire and analysed using descriptive statistics. The results revealed that students occasionally used ‘Opon-Imo’ as reference material to seek answers to assignments (x̄= 3.1 ± 0.9) just as the teachers often utilised the modules as a reference point while explaining class notes to the students (x̄= 3.5 ± 0.8). (Most (58%) of the students were indifferent about the values of ‘Opon-Imo’ as a learning aid for agricultural subjects, whereas most of the teachers (58.3%) had a favourable disposition towards it for their teaching activities. As a challenge, teachers noted students’ misuse of the device for entertainment purposes instead of use as a learning aid (x̄= 3.16). It was concluded that teachers validly used ‘Opon-Imo’ to a greater extent for agricultural educational purposes and were more positively inclined to its educative usefulness than the students. As such, effective measures have to be developed to make the students aware of the value of this learning aid for their career in agriculture.

This study sought to determine the adequacy and utilization of ICT facilities for teaching and learning business subjects in public senior secondary schools in Osun State of Nigeria. Mixed method research design involving the distribution of questionnaires and the conduct of follow-up interviews was used for the study. The population consisted of business educators teaching in public secondary schools. No sample was drawn; the entire population was studied. The results show that ICT facilities are barely available, grossly inadequate and largely unutilized in teaching business subjects in Osun State public secondary schools in spite of the much-heralded introduction of ”Opon Imo” computer tablets supposedly made available to all senior secondary school students in the state. The study opined that government and other education stakeholders should provide functional ICT facilities and personnel in public secondary schools.

Students are accessed using paper and pen on cognitive abilities in Nigeria. This method of assessment encourages different forms of examination malpractices. The threat of examination malpractices on the validity of examination outcomes has resulted in some examination bodies adopting different methods of examination. One of such methods is the computer based test (CBT). Using survey research method, this study investigated the levels of competency in computer literacy skills possessed by senior secondary school students. Three research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Problems encountered by the students and prospective methods of enhancing computer based test (CBT) acceptance in Nigeria were also documented. A total of 310 copies of the questionnaire were administered to students who participated in the 2015 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at Afrihub Information and Communication Technology (CBT) centre, Institution of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu and Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu and 237 representing 76% were adequately completed and found usable. The findings revealed among others that majority of the respondents confirmed that CBT can curb examination malpractice. Majority of candidates were also found to prefer CBT to the paper and pencil test (PPT). The mean, standard deviation and Pearson‟s Correlation Analysis showed that the respondent is preference for CBT were sensitive across gender. While improving electricity was identified as critical in enhancing CBT examinations, poor ICT skills on the part of students and the invigilators were also identified as the major problems facing the implementation of JAMB CBT examination in Nigeria.
