Quality of life is important to achieve the best performance of mothers. Maternal quality of life is usually measured by WHOQOL-BREF standards (quality of life of the World Health Organization-BREF), SF-36 (Short-36), or MGI (Mother Generated Index). One factor that affects the maternal quality of life is breastfeeding. The practice of breastfeeding is the mother who is breastfeeding (giving only breast milk) and the mother who is not breastfeeding (with formula milk) as well as seeing the length of breastfeeding time for less than 6 months or more than 6 months. This literature review has research question with PICO standard to get the aim about the correlation between the practice of breastfeeding and maternal quality of life. 466 literatures were obtained from the SCOPUS, Proquest, Google Scholar, PubMed and EBSCOhost databases. Literature screening is done by looking at the inclusion and exclusion criteria that have been set so that 10 literatures will be reviewed. Most of the literature reports that mothers who breastfeed and continue to breastfeed even though only a month has a better quality of life than mothers who did not breastfeed. One study said that breastfeeding causes a decrease in the maternal quality of life, as well as several other studies that found no significant correlation between breastfeeding practices and maternal quality of life. This result can be used as a reference for the health policy to promote breastfeeding and quality of life.

Object In this study, the authors assessed the construct validity and the reliability of the World Health Organization Quality of Life–Bref (WHOQOL-Bref) questionnaire in patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) and compared the performance of the WHOQOL-Bref and the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) in assessing quality of life (QOL) in patients with CSM. Methods In this prospective study, 70 patients with CSM were assessed preoperatively and again 1 year after central corpectomy using the Nurick scale, the SF-36, and the WHOQOL-Bref. Construct validity and reliability of the WHOQOL-Bref, its responsiveness compared with that of the SF-36, and the correlations between the 2 scales were studied. Results The WHOQOL-Bref was found to be valid (p < 0.001, Cuzick test for trend between the physical domain of the WHOQOL-Bref and Nurick grade) and reliable (Cronbach α > 0.7). It had smaller floor and ceiling effects (ranges 1.4–7.1% and 0–7.1%, respectively) than the SF-36 (ranges 2.9–71.4% and 0–14.1%, respectively). There was significant postoperative improvement in patient scores on all the SF-36 scales (p < 0.001) and the physical, psychological, and environment domains of the WHOQOL-Bref (p < 0.001). The SF-36 scales were more responsive to change (relative efficiency range 0.24–1) than the WHOQOL-Bref domains (relative efficiency range 0.002–0.73). Among scales measuring similar concepts, only the physical functioning and bodily pain scales of the SF-36 had a moderate correlation (r = 0.57 and 0.53, respectively; p < 0.001) with the physical domain of WHOQOL-Bref. Many of the scales of these 2 QOL instruments unexpectedly had a fair correlation with one another (r range = 0.2–0.4). Conclusions The WHOQOL-Bref, like the SF-36, is valid and reliable in assessing outcome in patients with CSM. It measures impairment in CSM in a more uniform manner than the SF-36, but its domains are less responsive to postoperative changes. Because the WHOQOL-Bref measures different constructs and has additive value, it should be used along with the SF-36 for QOL assessment in patients with CSM.

Low vision has been declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) to be one of the major ophthalmologic problems requiring global attention. Low-vision patients experience a reduced vision-related quality of life due to impaired visual function. However, this condition that interfere their daily life could also make a significant effect on their mental health. Therefore, the final goal of low-vision rehabilitation is to improve the daily quality of life. However, the absence of vision at birth appears to protect against psychosis, whereas later-life visual loss appears to predispose to the development of psychotic symptoms. Thus, our purpose in this literature review is to learn how the onset of visual loss may affect patient's mental health.

Objective - to estimate the quality of life with therapy of trimetazidine in patients with idiopathic pulmonary hypertension, I-III functional class. Material and methods. In this study we included 29 patients (27 women and 2 men) aged 41.9±10 years. All patients had a common complain of angina-like symptoms. The patients were divided into 2 groups. The first group consisted of 11 patients (1 men and 10 women) who were additionally prescribed trimetazidine 35 mg twice daily for 24 weeks. The second group included 18 patients (1 men and 17 women) who continued to receive standard and specific therapy. At baseline and after 24 weeks all patients were examination, which included: laboratory (general and biochemical blood tests, D-dimer), clinical and instrumental examinations (electrocardiography, echocardiography, chest radiography, scintigraphy, a 6-min walking test, spirometry). We are take into consideration: age, sex, functional class (World Health Organization), complaints, tolerance, a 6-min walking test, Holter electrocardiogram in 12 lead, SF-36 questionnaire. Results. We analyzed the questionnaire SF-36 quality of life compared to before and after treatment trimetazidine: improvement in general health (p

MÉTODOS: Revisão sistemática nas bases PubMed, Lilacs e SciELO com utilização dos descritores "physical activity", "motor activity", "exercise", "walking", "running", "physical fitness", "sport", "life style", "quality of life", "WHOQOL" e "SF".

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the perception of Quality of Life (QL) in Brazilian patients with narcolepsy. METHOD: 40 adult patients aged between 20 and 72 years (mean=41.55; SD=14.50); (28 F; 12M), with the diagnosis of chronic narcolepsy were followed up at the outpatient clinic (Patient Group). The Control Group was composed of 40 adults. The instrument utilized was the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF). RESULTS: The two groups were homogeneous and no difference was found with regards to age, sex, and demographic characteristics. The perception of QL in physical, psychological and social domains showed lower scores in those patients with narcolepsy than in the control group (p<0.05). Concerning physical domain, all the aspects evaluated were significantly impaired, in patient group, including sleep satisfaction (p<0.001); energy for daily activities (p=0.039); capacity to perform activities (p=0.001); and capacity to work (p=0.001). CONCLUSION: The perception of QL showed severe impairment in patients with narcolepsy for physical, psychological and social domains.

Os participantes completaram um questionário que investigava dados sociodemográficos e familiares, o Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly Screening Version (HHIE-S) e o World Health Organization Quality of Life - versão breve (WHOQOL-Breve).

AbstractThis study was aimed to assess the effectiveness of magnesium (Mg)-vitamin B 6 replenishment and its correlation with clinical status in pregnant women (PW), and quality of life in women with hormone-related conditions (HRCW) and hypomagnesemia (HME). Data collected in four observational studies were pooled and analysed. All women received Mg supplementation for 4 weeks. The proportion of women with normalized Mg level, and the correlation between serum Mg dynamics and number of symptoms/complaints (PW) or changes in World Health Organization quality of life questionnaire scores (WHOQOL; HRCW) were evaluated. 869 PW and 957 HRCW were included in the study. Normalization of serum Mg level to ≥ 0.66 mmol/L occurred in 92.1% of PW and 78.4% of HRCW, and to ≥ 0.8 mmol/L in 73.8% and 58.9%, respectively. Mg normalization was accompanied by a median decrease of 1 symptom and 1 complaint in PW. Serum Mg level increase by 0.1 mmol/L was associated to significant changes in the WHOQOL scores in HRCW. Treatment of HME with the Mg for approximately 4 weeks provided a high response rate of Mg serum level, was associated with an improvement in symptom severity and complaints in PW, and WHOQOL score in HRCW. A 0.8 mmol/L cut-off appeared to be more relevant in terms of patient-reported outcomes.
