The paper presents the results of a comprehensive clinical-genealogical, clinical-anamnestic and psychodiagnostic examination of patients with recurrent depression. The features, structure and role of heredity factors and social stress factors in the formation of recurrent depression have been investigated. The presence of a significant family accumulation of depressive disorders in the pedigrees was revealed in patients with recurrent depressive disorders, predominantly in the mother’s line. It was found that an important provoking factor in the development of depressive disorders is the presence of factors of mental traumatization, mainly social and psychological. It has been proved that a significant role in the pathogenesis of depression belongs not to the number of stressful events, but to the level of their stressfulness. The results obtained show that the formation of depressive disorders is determined by the presence of a combined effect of clinical and genealogical, social and environmental and socio-psychological factors.

Mental disorders (mainly anxiety and depressive disorders) and cognitive impairment are often found in patients with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), but their prevalence, structure, and mechanisms of occurrence are not well researched. The review provides literature data on the frequency, spectrum and possible causes of mental disorders and cognitive impairment in patients with APS, the pathogenetic mechanisms of these disorders (in particular, the important role of antiphospholipid antibodies, stress factors, chronic inflammation), the relationship between APS, mental disorders and as well as cognitive impairment is examined. Special attention is paid to the influence of mental disorders and cognitive impairment on patients adherence to treatment, their quality of life, as well as the particularities of psychopharmacotherapy of mental disorders in patients with APS. The aim of the review is to actualize the interdisciplinary problem of mental disorders and cognitive impairment in patients with APS and the need to introduce a partnership model of care.

Disaster evacuations are stressful events in which citizens and law enforcement frequently interact with each other. Most emergency response plans are based on military strategies that operate independent of the general public, but we argue that the police must be cognizant of several social psychological factors that affect citizens’ behavior during evacuations, including risk perception, social networks, and access to resources. Drawing from social psychological, criminal justice, and disaster research, we propose a model that (a) describes how citizens’ priorities and behaviors change as a disaster evolves and (b) identifies policing strategies that accommodate these changing behaviors and facilitate a successful evacuation. Our model, embedded in how people behave and what police are taught, can increase citizen compliance with law enforcement during disaster evacuations, remove more citizens from harm, save lives, and improve the relationship between communities and the police.

The review summarizes current idea on the key role of interleukin 6 (IL-6) in the pathogenesis of rheumatic diseases (RDs) and depressive disorders. It considers in detail the mechanisms by which IL6 induces the clinical and laboratory manifestations of RDs and depression; the influence of precipitating and predisposing stress factors, including childhood mental traumas, which increase the risk of RDs and depression, on IL-6 production. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of prospects for using IL-6 inhibitors in the therapy of depression.

This chapter examines how a Clinical Psychologist helps patients with Non-Epileptic Attacks (NEA). The care process for people with NEA takes a variety of forms. In hospitals, a variety of skilled colleagues are involved and the Clinical Psychologist is fortunate to be able to contribute in numerous ways, from service developments to abstract case discussions to individual patient care. The delivery of direct psychological care sometimes takes the form of psychological assessment, therapy, and ongoing psychological support, which—when based on a lifespan bio-psycho-social perspective—can work well but with numerous challenges and uncertainties. The patients the Clinical Psychologist sees have NEA in common, but the underlying mechanisms vary. Attention has long been given to the role of stressful events for some patients, while for others, issues of social-emotional processing, interpersonal communication, self-regulation, and executive functions have started to receive overdue recognition. In many cases, there is some combination of psychological, social, stress-based, coping-based, neuropsychological, and/or neurodevelopmental mechanisms. This can complicate the delivery of psychological therapy or support.
