In Switzerland’s banking sector, the pandemic has caused changes, although not on the same scale as in other countries. Switzerland’s banks, unlike banks in other countries, continue to do well financially. They have much less need to save money and therefore have little incentive to close their branches. However, as in the rest of the world, in recent years Switzerland has seen a downward trend in the number of branches and staff members. In 2019, more than 50 of the largest banks in the world laid off about 77,780 employees. An 82% laid off was made by European banks. Over the past 6 years, credit institutions have laid off 425,000 employees worldwide. This trend is exacerbated by the instability associated with the pandemic and prolonged waves of quarantines around the world, forcing financial institutions to move to remote service channels and reduce number of branchs. Consequently, today many more Switzerland’s banks are already considering staff reductions. In this way, banks plan to withstand growing competition, a decline in profitability and losses from the pandemic. The coronavirus has changed not only the attitude and policies of banks towards their business or the way customers conduct banking transactions, but also the payment habits of consumers: cards and smartphones have largely replaced cash. The subject matter of the research is the relations that are formed in the process of banking operations. It has been substantiated that banks and the banking system are among the most important financial institutions, which proper and stable functioning influences on all other spheres of life in the state. It is proved by the consequences of crises in the banking sector that have occurred in Ukraine over the past few years. Awareness of the importance of this area and the possible consequences of unlawful encroachments have determined the need to search for all legal means for combating delicts in the sphere of banking operations. Understanding the fact that one can achieve significant results in the sphere of protecting banking operations by administrative and legal means, has necessitated this scientific study. In order to analyze banking operations as an object of administrative and legal protection, the author has fulfilled the following tasks. The author has highlighted the use of the concepts of “protection” and “administrative and legal protection” in the context of their implementation in relation to banking operations. The foundations of Ukrainian and international administrative and legal regulation of protecting relations in the sphere of banking operations have been revealed. The essence and features of banking operations influencing the understanding of the sphere of protected relations have been outlined; and the content of administrative and legal protection of relations in the field of banking operations has been revealed. It has been noted that there is an extensive system of banking legislation on legal norms in Ukraine regulating banking operations that require legal protection. The practical significance of the obtained results of the article is determined by the substantiated provisions for improving the approaches to increase the efficiency of the administrative and legal protection of the relations in the sphere of banking operations. A number of practical results of the research can be used while studying administrative and legal means of protecting relations in the field of banking operations.

This paper gives an overview of the banking sector in Kenya; it highlights the reforms since the country‟s independence in 1963; it tracks the growth of the banking sector in response to the reforms implemented over the past four decades; and finally, it highlights the challenges facing the banking sector in Kenya. The country‟s banking sector consists of more than 40 commercial banks, with the Central Bank of Kenya, which is the country‟s central bank, at the apex. Since the 1980s, the Kenyan government has implemented a number of banking sector reforms – in order to safeguard and improve the banking sector. The response to these reforms by the banking sector has been varied. As a result of these reforms, there has been a shift in the dominance from the State-owned banks to the private commercial banks. There has also been an improvement in the Central Bank‟s oversight of the financial institutions, and an enforcement of the banks‟ capital-adequacy requirements. By the standards of African countries, Kenya currently has one of the most developed banking systems in Africa. The country has enjoyed a substantial bank-based financial sector development over the years, and its institutional framework has also grown stronger. However, like many other developing countries‟ financial systems, the Kenyan banking system still faces wide-ranging challenges, such as high interest rate spreads and financial inclusion challenges

This paper gives an overview of the Australian banking sector; it highlights the reforms since the 1970s; it tracks the growth of the banking sector in response to the reforms implemented over the past five decades; and finally, it highlights the challenges facing the Australian banking sector. The country’s banking sector consists of more than 60 commercial banks, with the Reserve Bank of Australia, the country’s central bank, at the apex. Since the 1980s, the Australian government has implemented a number of banking sector reforms in order to safeguard and improve the banking sector. The response to these reforms by the banking sector has been varied. As a result of these reforms, there has been an increase in the number of banks and a decrease in the number of building societies and credit unions. There has also been an improvement in the central bank’s oversight of the financial institutions, and an enforcement of the banks’ capital-adequacy requirements. Currently, Australia has one of the most developed banking systems in the world. The country has enjoyed a substantial bank-based financial sector development over the years, and its institutional framework has also grown stronger. However, like any other country’s financial system, the Australian banking system still faces wide-ranging challenges, such as bank concentration and exposure.

The aim of the study is to analyze the main trends in the development of the work of transnational banks in the context of globalization. The object of research is the world leaders of the international banking sector. In the process of research, the authors have analyzed theoretical and practical material used in general methods of scientific knowledge and statistical research. Scientific novelty lies in the development of the main directions for the development of the banking system at the international level, analysis of the experience of leading transnational banking companies in the context of a pandemic.

Risk management as a very rapid emerging subject has been affected by several happenings in the world. There are many studies covering risk definition, risk types, and risk management, plus there are many contemporary approaches in order to calculate the risk incurred by the companies due to their transactions. In the modern business life, since the transactions have become very fast and their risk exposure increases, the companies, especially the financial institutions, started to use new techniques to measure the probable effects of the risks that they have taken while undertaking the transactions. In this chapter, the authors show two techniques as the contemporary approaches to risk management. These are operations research and statistics. They know that these two concepts are very detailed and sophisticated tools, which require software for better results. The banks have been investing in these solutions, and they are designing new organizations to handle these issues. Thus, the authors introduce these techniques very briefly with using some banking practices for better understanding.

Digital determines new practices of companies and customers while touching all sectors of activity. Adaptation to the digital is imperative for banks. In this framework, this chapter explores the question of the influence of the use of mobile technologies by the customers on recruitment in the banking sector and on the number of the branch banking networks. Particularly, the authors seek to answer the following question: What are the effects of the use of mobile technologies by customers on recruitments and the number of branches in the banking sector in Tunisia? In order to answer this question, they analyze the annual reports of the last seven years published by Tunisia's Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions. Contrary to the findings observed in foreign countries concerning the reduction of the number of branches and recruitments following the digital transformation in the banking sector, in Tunisia the number of branches and recruitments has not stopped increasing.

India has emerged as the fastest-growing second largest leading fintech hub in the world after the United States. This chapter will explain the various challenges faced in the year 2020 and opportunities for fintech in 2021. The chapter also explains the emerging technology trends and growth of finechs in India during the COVID pandemic.


Subject Iran’s banking sector in urgent need of reform. Significance Tehran's banks face major corruption scandals, and a complex policy environment. In July 2016, the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) announced major plans to reform the country’s banking system in line with global standards. Iranian banks have been cut off from the international financial system since 2012, owing to sanctions. After the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran expected that the lifting of sanctions would reverse this situation. However, despite interest among Central Asian and Turkish banks, progress has been limited. Impacts European banks will be slow to engage with Iran, fearing unpredictable US penalties. Differing US and Iranian interpretations of sanctions lifting under the nuclear deal may come up before the dispute resolution mechanism. Macroeconomic strains will put depreciatory pressure on the currency. If President Hassan Rouhani fails to win re-election in May, the chances of banking reform would be much lower.

As has been argued throughout this paper, the different way in which banks have been affected by the crisis is closely linked to their distinct business model. Consequently, the characteristic structure of the balance sheet in big banks and ethical banks is correlated with their divergent dynamic during the crisis. While the financial turmoil has left the business approach of ethical banks unchanged, as evidenced in the striking stability of their balance sheet from 2007 to 2009, the pattern shown by big banks has substantially changed over this same period. These developments would tend to suggest the need to reform the business model of big banks. There is no clear empirical evidence that a banking system with a large number of small institutions would be any more stable than the system as it currently stands. Besides, financing certain big projects would always require the existence of large international banks. Both types of financial institutions are in fact complementary. How to regulate the banking and financial sector is thus a complex and multifaceted issue. One cannot impose the same requirements on big international-oriented banks and small domestic banks. As this paper has tried to demonstrate, both have a distinct business model.
