Researchers have been continuously searching for the most readily available means of producing electricity without any negative effect on the environment. Renewable source of energy like solar energy, hydro electric energy, biomass and wind energy has been considered as the alternative. Wind energy among others is rated the best renewable sources of energy because it’s level of environmental friendliness. In this paper, a horizontal windmill was designed, fabricated and its performance evaluated with two types of vortices and without a vortex. The component parts of the mills are towel, blades, shafts, base, tail vain and vortex. During the design of the windmill, consideration was given to the size, area of the blade and the blade material that produce maximum speed. The performance evaluation was carried out to compare the performance of the mill with the solid vortex, gap vortex and without vortex. The result of the evaluation reflects that the solid vortices have the highest wind speed irrespective of time of the day and with an optimum wind speed of 5.04 m/s. Also, the wind mill performed at a higher efficiency with the vortex compare to when it was running without vortex.

In this paper, with the help of two-parameter Weibull distribution, the monthly, seasonal and annual assessment of wind energy potentiality was made using the wind speed data collected in the last decade, from 2001 to 2010 for the meteorological station of Tindouf region. The vertical extrapolation of Weibull parameters and mean wind speed at a height of 50m and the analysis of temporal energy efficiency using a wind turbine of 600kW rated power from Fuhrländer manufacturer was made. The results show that Tindouf situated in extreme Algerian southwest, in the natural region of the Sahara, on the border with Morocco (west), the non-autonomous territory of Western Sahara (south-west) and Mauritania (south), is one of windiest region in the country, swept by local winds with a good annual mean wind speed =5.67m/s and an annual mean wind power density equal to 200W/m2at 10m, while the highest monthly wind energy produced may be reached in May, the seasonal in Spring and the annual gross electric energy produced is equal to 1.85GWh/year.

Wind energy has been most prevalently utilized to generate electric power due to non pollution to the environment and the conservation of fossil fuel resources. The energy generated from wind turbine depends on the wind site characteristics and the wind turbine parameters. So, the choice of certain wind turbine for specific site is very important in terms of price of electric energy generated from wind energy system. Therefore, optimal choice of wind turbine is one of the most crucial issues in the design of wind energy system, which can utilize wind energy as efficiently as possible and achieve the best economic benefits. So this paper introduces a new and simple mathematic formulation for the wind turbine-site matching problem, based on wind speed characteristics of any site and the power curve parameters of any wind turbine. Wind speed at any site is characterized by the scale parameter (c) and the shape parameter (k) of the Weibull distribution function. The power curve parameters of any wind turbine are characterized by the cut-in, rated, and furling speeds and the rated power. The new formulation method is derived based on a generic formulation for the product of the Capacity Factor (CF) and Normalized Power (PN). Three case studies are also presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method to choose between a group of wind sites and a list of commercial wind turbines.

The assessment of the suitability of a wind system depends largely on the prediction of the wind potential. Indeed, the variability and uncertainty inherent in renewable energy sources can have a significant impact on accurate and reliable prediction of the power produced. Wind sources are needed at different time stages and at different altitudes. Thus, putting in place tools for predicting these wind resources is essential for their effective integration in the frame of electricity generation. In this context, the paper of this study is to propose a short-term wind energy prediction method through the formation of historical wind velocity data based on neural networks. This assessment involves modelling wind speed using ANN through the feed-forwad network. So, ANN are at the basis of adaptive identification methods and intelligent command laws. In this sense, first, the process of forecasting wind energy involves the creation of a raw data base, which is then filtered by probabilistic neural network. More concretely, the contribution of the work can be given in the form of technical results. These results start with a proposal of the theoretical models, then it is given the approach method that is used, then it is proposed the design of the system and the whole is closed by a performance evaluation. As far as performance evaluation is concerned, it is presented in the form of the results of analysed simulations of the forecast model. In practical terms, it should be noted that the proposed model also provides a high degree of accuracy for the measured data. In the end, normalized average absolute errors were recorded between 4.7% and 4.9%. As, it was found a regression factor R (measures the correlation between output-Target) between 91% and 96% for the site of the northern Mauritanian coast. This is largely acceptable for similar calculations.

Indonesia is a tropical country, because its area that crosses the equator has enormous solar potential, with a radiation magnitude of 4.80 kWh / m2 / day / day or equivalent to 112,000 GWp. Meanwhile, the solar energy received by the earth is 1.74 x 1017 W / hour, of which about 1-2% is converted into wind energy. However, in terms of total energy potential, Indonesia only uses around 10 MWp of solar energy, the difference is that wind energy which is planned to reach 250 MW in 2025 only uses 1 MW of the total potential. Skyscrapers are places with enormous wind energy potential. Because if the height exceeds 150 m, the reference point of the building can be called a skyscraper, which will cause high wind speed at the top of the building. This phenomenon is caused by the influence of the friction force which suppresses the wind speed, therefore the higher the position, the higher the wind speed. With this potential, to provide additional power and help save energy in existing facilities in the building, a smart photovoltaic and vertical turbine prototype design was created. The prototype design is a combination of weathered turbines and solar panels, the reason for using this type of turbine is because it can rotate at low wind speed (low wind speed) and has a very simple structure. In addition, because it uses a vertical shaft, the generator and gearbox can be placed close to the ground, making maintenance easier. The working principle of this prototype is designed to use a turbine to convert wind energy on the roof of the building into electrical energy, then mix it with electrical energy converted from solar energy by solar panels, so that electrical energy will be more optimal.

The paper proposes an alternative scheme of guaranteed electricity and heat supply of an energy-insulated facility with a high potential of wind energy without the use of imported or local fuel. The scheme represents a wind power complex containing the park of wind generators located at the points with high wind potential. The wind generators provide guaranteed power supply even in periods of weak wind. For heat supply of the consumer, all surplus of the electric power goes on thermoelectric heating of water in tanks of accumulators, and also on receiving hydrogen by a method of electrolysis of water. The current heat supply is carried out with the use of hot water storage tanks, and the heat supply during the heat shortage is carried out by burning the stored hydrogen in condensing hydrogen boilers. We have developed the algorithm of calculation and the program "Wind in energy" which allows calculating annual balance of energy and picking up necessary quantity of the equipment for implementation of the scheme proceeding from the annual schedule of thermal and electric loading, and also potential of wind energy in the chosen region. The calculation-substantiation of the scheme proposed in relation to the real energy-insulated object Ust-Kamchatsk (Kamchatka) is carried out. The equipment for the implementation of an alternative energy supply scheme without the use of imported fuel is selected and compared with the traditional energy supply scheme based on a diesel power plant and a boiler house operating on imported fuel. With the introduction of an alternative power supply scheme, the equipment of the traditional scheme that has exhausted its resource can be used for backup power supply. Using climate databases, a number of energy-insulated facilities in the North and East of Russia with high wind energy potential are considered and the conditions for the successful implementation of the energy supply scheme are analyzed. This requires not only a high average annual wind speed, but also a minimum number of days of weak wind. In addition, it is necessary that the profile of the wind speed distribution in the annual section coincides with the profile of the heat load consumption.

Optimization of the autonomous wind-diesel plants composition and of their power for guaranteed energy supply, despite the long history of research, the diversity of approaches and methods, is an urgent problem. In this paper, a detailed analysis of the wind energy characteristics is proposed to shape an autonomous power system for a guaranteed power supply with predominance wind energy. The analysis was carried out on the basis of wind speed measurements in the south of the European part of Russia during 8 months at different heights with a discreteness of 10 minutes. As a result, we have obtained a sequence of average daily wind speeds and the sequences constructed by arbitrary variations in the distribution of average daily wind speeds in this interval. These sequences have been used to calculate energy balances in systems (wind turbines + diesel generator + consumer with constant and limited daily energy demand) and (wind turbines + diesel generator + consumer with constant and limited daily energy demand + energy storage). In order to maximize the use of wind energy, the wind turbine integrally for the period in question is assumed to produce the required amount of energy. For the generality of consideration, we have introduced the relative values of the required energy, relative energy produced by the wind turbine and the diesel generator and relative storage capacity by normalizing them to the swept area of the wind wheel. The paper shows the effect of the average wind speed over the period on the energy characteristics of the system (wind turbine + diesel generator + consumer). It was found that the wind turbine energy produced, wind turbine energy used by the consumer, fuel consumption, and fuel economy depend (close to cubic dependence) upon the specified average wind speed. It was found that, for the same system with a limited amount of required energy and high average wind speed over the period, the wind turbines with lower generator power and smaller wind wheel radius use wind energy more efficiently than the wind turbines with higher generator power and larger wind wheel radius at less average wind speed. For the system (wind turbine + diesel generator + energy storage + consumer) with increasing average speed for a given amount of energy required, which in general is covered by the energy production of wind turbines for the period, the maximum size capacity of the storage device decreases. With decreasing the energy storage capacity, the influence of the random nature of the change in wind speed decreases, and at some values of the relative capacity, it can be neglected.

Electromagnetic light from the Sun is the largest source, and the cleanest energy available to us; extensive efforts have been dedicated to developing science and engineering solutions in order to avoid the use of fossil fuels. Solar energy transforms photons into electricity via the photovoltaic effect, generating about 20 GW of energy in the USA in 2020, sufficient to power about 17 million households. However, sunlight is erratic, and technologies to store electric energy storage are unwieldy and relatively expensive. A better solution to store energy and to deliver this energy on demand is storage in chemical bonds: synthesizing fuels such as H2, methane, ethanol, and other chemical species. In this review paper we focus on titania (TiO2) nanotubes grown through electrochemical anodization and various modifications made to them to enhance conversion efficiency; these semiconductors will be used to implement the synthesis of H2 through water splitting. This document reviews selected research efforts on TiO2 that are ongoing in our group in the context of the current efforts worldwide. In addition, this manuscript is enriched by discussing the latest novelties in this field.
