Abstract Background Different soybean (Glycine max L.) leaf chlorophyll-content traits are considered to be significantly linked to soybean yield. To map the quantitative trait loci (QTLs) of soybean leaf chlorophyll-content traits, an advanced recombinant inbred line (RIL, ZH, Zhonghuang 24 × Huaxia 3) population was adopted to phenotypic data acquisitions for the target traits across six distinct environments (seasons and soybean growth stages). Moreover, the restriction site-associated DNA sequencing (RAD-seq) based high-density genetic linkage map of the RIL population was utilized for QTL mapping by carrying out the composite interval mapping (CIM) approach. Results Correlation analyses showed that most traits were correlated with each other under specific chlorophyll assessing method and were regulated both by hereditary and environmental factors. In this study, 78 QTLs for soybean leaf chlorophyll-content traits were identified. Furthermore, 13 major QTLs and five important QTL hotspots were classified and highlighted from the detected QTLs. Finally, Glyma01g15506, Glyma02g08910, Glyma02g11110, Glyma07g15960, Glyma15g19670 and Glyma15g19810 were predicted from the genetic intervals of the major QTLs and important QTL hotspots. Conclusions The detected QTLs and candidate genes may facilitate to gain a better understanding of the hereditary basis of soybean leaf chlorophyll-content traits and may be valuable to pave the way for the marker-assisted selection (MAS) breeding of the target traits.

The effects of caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid,t-cinnamic acid,p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, gallic acid,p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, 5-sulfosalicylic acid, vanillic acid, and vanillin on growth, photosynthesis, water relations, and chlorophyll content of 3-week-old soybeans [Glycine max(L.) Merr. ‘Tracy’] grown in aerated nutrient solution were determined. At concentrations of 10−3M, caffeic,t-cinnamic,p-coumaric, ferulic, gallic, and vanillic acids significantly reduced dry matter production, leaf expansion, height, leaf production, net assimilation rate (rate of dry matter production per unit leaf area), and leaf area duration (total leaf area present during treatment interval). Chlorogenic acid,p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, 5-sulfosalicylic acid, and vanillin at 10−3M did not inhibit growth. None of the 10 compounds at 10−4M inhibited growth. At concentrations of 10−3M, caffeic,t-cinnamic,p-coumaric, ferulic, gallic, and vanillic acids severely reduced net photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance of single, fully expanded leaves. These same compounds also caused marked reductions in leaf chlorophyll content, with net losses of chlorophyll occurring over an 86-h period after treatment.

The impact of long-term exposure to Sr2+ (LTE, four doses, 43.5 mg Sr2+ per pot, with a total of 174 mg Sr2+ per pot during the entire period of cultivation) and short-term exposure to Sr2+ (STE, one dose, 870 mg Sr2+ per pot four days before harvest) on the content of phytoestrogens and allantoin in soybeans were compared. Sr2+ accumulation, the effect on the concentration of macroelements, and basic physiology were also analyzed. LTE reduced the content of malonyldaidzin and malonylgenistin in the roots (58% and 50% compared to the control, respectively). STE increased the amount of all isoflavones in the stem and genistein in the leaves and decreased the content of malonyldaidzin and malonylgenistin in the leaves (55% and 48% compared to the control, respectively) and roots (69% and 62% of the control, respectively) as well as genistein and coumestrol in the roots (both 50% compared to the control). Sr2+ presence stimulated the accumulation of allantoin in the roots (three-fold higher than in the control), but only STE had similar effects on the shoots. In contrast to LTE, Sr2+ was transported extensively from the roots to the leaves under STE. In comparison to the control, LTE resulted in an increase in the Ca content in the stem by 36%, whereas Ca2+ accumulation in the leaves, stems, and roots increased by 60%, 80%, and 36%, respectively, under STE. Additionally, a significant accumulation of K was found only in the roots of the LTE group. The chlorophyll content did not differ between the treatments. Overall, the production of phytoestrogens and Sr accumulation were affected by both the applied dose and the duration of exposure to Sr.

This study was aimed at determining the increasing of growth and production of soybean crops by giving Azotobacter sp. and additive materials such as coconut water, molasses, and bran. This research was conducted on Januari 2018 to April 2018 at Ciparanje Experimental Field Faculty of Agriculture. Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor, Sumedang, West Java Province, on ± 774 meters above sea level (asl) using single factor randomized block design with 10 treatments; Azotobacter sp. and additive materials combination such as coconut water, molasses, and bran in three repetitions. The observations on the parameters observed in the final vegetative phase were on plant height, chlorophyll content, and population of Azotobacter sp. using Total Plate Count (TPC) method.The results show that the application of combination additives materials and Azotobacter sp. effect on populations Azotobacter sp., chlorophyll content, plant height and number of soybean pods (Glycine max L.). Application of coconut water independently, water added with Azotobacter sp., and combination of additive with Azotobacter sp. can give the best effect to the content of chlorophyll, plant height, and soybean crops components (Glycine max. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dengan 10 perlakuan pemberian Azotobacter sp. dan aditif air kelapa, molase, serta dedak dengan tiga ulangan. Pengamatan terhadap parameter yang diamati pada fase vegetatif akhir yaitu tinggi tanaman, kandungan klorofil, dan populasi Azotobacter sp. dengan metode Total Plate Count (TPC). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan aplikasi kombinasi bahan aditif dan penambahan pupuk hayati Azotobacter sp. berpengaruh terhadap populasi Azotobacter sp., kadar klorofil, tinggi tanaman dan jumlah polong tanaman kedelai (Glycine max L.). Aplikasi air kelapa secara mandiri, air kelapa yang ditambahkan dengan Azotobacter sp., dan kombinasi bahan aditif dengan Azotobacter sp. dapat memberikan pengaruh terbaik terhadap kandungan klorofil, tinggi tanaman, dan komponen hasil tanaman kedelai (Glycine max. L.).

Three advanced lines (SB02, SB05, SB07) along with one tolerant (Lokon) and one susceptible check (Asswt) of soybean (Glycine max L.) were assessed for salt tolerance in terms of morpho-physiological traits and molecular markers (SSR). The experiment was conducted at seedling stage with four salinity treatments namely 0, 8, 12 and 16 dSm-1 following Completely Randomized design. All the genotypes displayed considerable reduction in their morphological traits, least affecting the tolerant one. None of the genotypes were survived at 12 and 16 dSm-1 stress condition. Among the lines tested, SB-02 and SB-05 were identified as salt tolerant at 8 dSm-1 based on salinity susceptibility index (SSI) scoring. These genotypes suffered less in reduction of leaf chlorophyll content (SPAD) and increase of Na+/K+ than the susceptible genotypes. For all the traits viz. shoot length, root length, total length, shoot fresh weiht, root fresh weight, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, total fresh weight, total dry weight, percent live leaves, chlorophyll content and Na+/K+ ratio, the phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was higher than that of genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV). All the traits studied showed medium to high heritability ranging between 43.81% (SPAD) to 96.65% (shoot length). The genotypes were grouped into two clusters considering both Euclidian distance and Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean analysis. Lokon, SB-02 and SB-05 are on the same cluster as tolerant, and SB-7 and Asset on the other as susceptible to salt stress. The molecular pattern using by SSR marker displayed an average number of 3.33 alleles per locus with PIC (Polymorphism Information Content) values ranged from 0.2688 (sat_655 and satt728) to 0.7680 (sat_210). The highest gene diversity was observed in sat_210 and satt237 and the lowest in sat_655 and satt728 with a mean diversity of 0.5733. The genotypes Lokon, SB-02 and SB-05 could be suggested as a potential germplasm source of QTL (Quantitative Trait Loci) analysis for the development of salt tolerant soybean variety. Ann.
