Long queues of arrival trucks are a common problem in seaports, and thus, carbon emissions generated from trucks in the queue cause environmental pollution. In order to relieve gate congestion and reduce carbon emissions, this paper proposes a lane allocation framework combining the truck appointment system (TAS) for four types of trucks. Based on the distribution of arrival times obtained from the TAS, lane allocation decisions in each appointment period are determined in order to minimize the total cost, including the operation cost and carbon emissions cost. The resultant optimization model is a non-linear fractional integer program. This model was firstly transformed to an equivalent integer program with bilinear constraints. Then, an improved branch-and-bound algorithm was designed, which includes further transforming the program into a linear program using the McCormick approximation method and iteratively generating a tighter outer approximation along the branch-and-bound procedure. Numerical studies confirmed the validity of the proposed model and algorithm, while demonstrating that the lane allocation decisions could significantly reduce carbon emissions and operation costs.

AbstractOver the last decades, additive manufacturing (AM) has become the principal production technology for prototypes and components with high added value. In the production of metallic parts, AM allows producing complex geometry with a single process. Also, AM admits a joining of elements that could not be realized with traditional methods. In addition, AM allows the manufacturing of components that could not be realized using other types of processes like reticular structures in heat exchangers. A solid mold investment casting that uses printed patterns overcomes typical limitations of additive processes such as expensive machinery and challenging process parameter settings. Indeed, rapid investment casting provides for a foundry epoxy pattern reproducing the component to exploit in the lost wax casting process. In this paper, aluminium radiators with flat heat pipes seamlessly connected with a cellular structure were conceived and produced. This paper aims at defining and investigating the principal foundry parameters to achieve a defect-free heat exchanger. For this purpose, different device CAD models were designed, considering four pipes’ thickness and length. Finite element method numerical simulations were performed to optimize the design of the casting process. Three different gate configurations were investigated for each length. The numerical investigations led to the definition of a castability range depending on flat heat pipes geometry and casting parameters. The optimal gate configuration was applied in the realization of AM patterns and casting processes

In this research, Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) simulation was performed by using the simulation software (AnyCasting) in order to optimize casting design of an automobile part (Oil Pan_7G9E) which is well known and complicated to achieve a good casting layout. The simulation results were analyzed and compared carefully in order to apply them into the production die-casting mold. During the filling process, internal porosities caused by air entrap were predicted and reduced remarkably by the modification of the gate system and the configuration of overflow. With the solidification analysis, internal porosities caused by the solidification shrinkage were predicted and reduced by the modification of the gate system.

As the significant connection between the external and internal of the railway container terminal, the operation performance of the gate system plays an important role in the entire system. So the gate congestion will bring many losses to the railway container terminal, even the entire railway container freight system. In this paper, the queue length and the average waiting time of the railway container terminal gate system, as well as the optimal number of service channels during the different time period, are investigated. AnM/Ek/ntransient queuing model is developed based on the distribution of the arrival time interval and the service time; besides the transient solutions are acquired by the equally likely combinations (ELC) heuristic method. Then the model is integrated into an optimization framework to obtain the optimal operation schemes. Finally, some computational experiments are conducted for model validation, sensitivity testing, and system optimization. Experimental results indicate that the model can provide the accurate reflection to the operation situation of the railway container terminal gate system, and the approach can yield the optimal number of service channels within the reasonable computation time.

Abstract Steam-flaked corn (SFC) has been widely used in feedlots in the southern United States to improve feed efficiency (G:F) by increasing starch digestibility. Similarly, feedlots in the Midwest have commonly fed high moisture corn (HMC), both to ensure corn supply for the year and to improve G:F. However, popularity of SFC in the Midwest is on the rise, but producers still recognize the benefits of HMC utilization. A study was conducted at the Eastern Nebraska Research and Extension Center (ENREC) to compare finishing cattle performance when fed HMC, SFC, or a blend. The objective was to determine the optimum inclusion of the grains when modified distillers grains (MDGS) was included at 20% of the diet. This study utilized 90 yearling steers (353 kg; SD=5.8 kg) individually fed using the Calan gate system in a completely randomized design with cattle stratified by body weight (BW). Treatments included: 100% HMC, 75% HMC blended with 25% SFC, a 50% blend of the grains, 25% HMC blended with 75% SFC, or 100% SFC (DM basis; % of the 70% grain in the diet). Cattle were on feed 168 days with 3-day initial BW and 1 day final BW. Animal was the experimental unit with 18 replications per treatment. No differences in initial BW, ribeye area, or marbling score between treatments were detected (P > 0.12). Ending BW, hot carcass weight, average daily gain, and G:F all linearly increased with increasing inclusion of SFC in the diet (P < 0.05). Carcass adjusted G:F improved from 0.158 to 0.170 for 100% HMC compared to 100% SFC diets, respectively. In conclusion, feeding higher inclusions of SFC in finishing diets resulted in improved performance compared to HMC in diets containing 20% MDGS.

With 2857 km in length, the quiet Danube quietly tells Europe’s history. We only must be aware of its story. Since ancient times it was connected with empires, expansion, and navigation. The Romans fully understood its role, and proceeded accordingly. They made it their border, but used it for transporting goods and military, too. After the Dark Ages, all European affairs have been in one way or another connected and influenced by the Danube. Romania’s modern history was influenced by the evolution of international problems connected to this river. The Moldavia and Wallachia 1859’s unification in a single state – Romania – had lot to do with the Danube and it was involved in London’s interests in the Oriental Question. The paper presents shortly the way the legal framework regarding the Danube was developed, and what was Romania’s role in facilitating navigation on the Danube. The main data which inspired this work – regarding both the political-legal aspects, and the technical solutions used to facilitate navigation on Danube – are based on earlier writings and studies of Romanian thinkers such as Antipa, Baicoianu, Dascovici and Gogeanu. The evolution of these aspects has a direct or an indirect connection with the evolution of political events and the economic development in all European states, but their importance is crucial especially for those countries which are located in the Danube’s basin. The main text regarding the political aspects related to the Danube is the Belgrade Convention, which has been the general framework under which riparian countries come together to collaborate and to solve the technical impediments for navigation, such as those imposed by the building of the Iron Gate System. At the same time, this paper signals the role of education in understanding the Danube’s role for riparian countries, and for their possible evolution in connection with this river.

The practice of brokering is one of the concerns felt by the community at immigration services. The Directorate General of Immigration immediately followed up on the report, and appealed to all technical units of immigration to eradicate brokering practices and the practice of extortion (illegal levies) on immigration services. In line with this appeal, the Directorate General of Immigration made an online application called APAPO. Kantor Imigrasi Kelas II Non-TPI Kediri in follow-up to the practice of extortion and brokering also built the Flip Barrier Gate system. This system utilizes the use of RFID (Radio Frequent Identification) technology embedded in the access card. However, over time, this system began to find some problems. Among the obstacles that have arisen are the inactivity of this system because it is feared that it will become the center of the spread of COVID-19 due to the alternating use of access cards. In this research, development planning is carried out for the Flip Barrier Gate Class II Non-TPI Kediri Immigration Office. Flip Barrier Gate is integrated with APAPO through the use of QR code booking code as an access reader. In development planning, this study uses the system development theory described by Tata Sutabri. This phase consists of 5 stages, namely, system investigation, system analysis, system design, system implementation, system maintenance.
