Castleman�s disease is characterized by benign angiolymphoid hyperplasia. There are two clinical forms: the localized form in which one lymph node is affected, often paucisimptomatic, treated by radical surgical excision, without recurrence in most cases, and the multicentric form, characterized by systemic manifestations, polyadenopathy (mediastin, cervical region, abdomen, etc.) , organomegaly (e.g. spleen, liver), with a less favorable prognosis than the localized form. The etiology of the disease remains unknown; recent studies suggest the implication of human herpes virus 8 (HHV-8), especially in multicenter forms. We shall present the case of women, aged 23, with Castleman�s disease with retroperitoneal localization, who was admitted to the surgery clinic due to abdominal pains. The initial abdominal CT raised the suspicion of a hepatic lobus caudatus tumor, but the anatomical-pathological result confirmed the diagnosis of angiofolicular hyperplasia of the lymph nodes. Diagnostic methods, histological forms, treatment and prognosis aspects of Castleman�s disease are described below.

Drug-induced lupus erythematosus has features distinct from primary systemic lupus erythematosus. It can occur with a wide variety of agents that result in the generation of anti-histone or other types of antibodies. Systemic manifestations of drug-induced systemic lupus erythematosus may include renal dysfunction due to circulating immune complexes or due to other immune reactions to the culprit medication(s). Acute interstitial nephritis occurs due to DNA–drug or protein–drug complexes that trigger an allergic immune response. We report a patient who developed acute kidney injury, rash, and drug-induced systemic lupus diagnosed by serologies after starting chlorthalidone and amiodarone. A renal biopsy showed acute interstitial nephritis and not lupus-induced glomerulonephritis. It is important to note that systemic lupus erythematosus and acute interstitial nephritis can occur together, and this report highlights the role of the kidney biopsy in ascertaining the pathological diagnosis and outlining therapy in drug-induced lupus erythematosus.

Abstract Background Equine trypanosomiases are complex infectious diseases with overlapping clinical signs defined by their mode of transmission. Despite their economic impacts, these diseases have been neglected by the scientific community, the veterinary authorities and regulatory organizations. To fill the observed knowledge gap, we undertook the identification of different trypanosome species and subspecies naturally infecting horses and donkeys within the Chadian sleeping sickness focus. The end objective, being to investigate the potential role of these domestic animals as reservoirs of the human infective Trypanosoma brucei gambienseMethod Blood samples were collected from 155 donkeys and 131 horses in three human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) foci of Chad. Rapid diagnostic test (RDT) and capillary tube centrifugation (CTC) test were used to search for trypanosome infections. DNA was extracted from each blood sample and different trypanosome species and subspecies were identified with molecular tools.Results From 286 blood samples collected, 54 (18.9%) and 36 (12.6%) were respectively positive for RDT and CTC. PCR revealed 144 (50.3%) animals with trypanosome infections. The kappa Cohen coefficients used to evaluate the concordance between the diagnostic methods were low; ranging from 0.087±0.0473 to 0.48 ± 0.0698. Trypanosomes of the subgenus Trypanozoon were the most prevalent (29.4%), followed by T. congolense forest (11.5%), T. congolense savannah (4.9%) and T. vivax (4.5%). Two donkeys and one horse from the Maro HAT focus were found with T. b. gambiense infections. Between animal species and HAT foci, no significant differences were observed in the infection rates of different trypanosomes. Conclusion This study revealed several trypanosome species and sub species in donkeys and horses, highlighting the existence of AAT in HAT foci of Chad. The identification of T. b. gambiense in donkeys and horses suggests considering these animals as potential reservoir for HAT in Chad. The presence of both human-infective and human non infective trypanosomes species highlights the need for developing joined control strategies for HAT and AAT.

The aim: Is to define dentine chemical composition of intact teeth and those with wedge-shaped defects followed by the analysis of revealed differences. Materials and methods: Longitudinal sections of 22 clinically removed teeth (12 – clinically intact ones, 10 – with wedge-shaped defects) from both jaws were studied in patients aged between 25-54 years. JSM-6490 LV focused beam electron microscope (scanning) with system of energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis INCA Penta FETх3 was used. The chemical composition of 148 dentine areas in the incisal region (tubercle), equator, cervical area has been determined as a percentage of the weight amounts of carbon, oxygen, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, chlorine, zinc, potassium, aluminum. Results: Dentine chemical composition of teeth with wedge-shaped defects differed from those of intact teeth by significantly lower content: sodium, chlorine and calcium – in the incisal region (tubercle); sodium, magnesium − at the equator; sodium, chlorine and calcium – in the cervical region (p≤0.05). In the sample groups with cervical pathology there was more sulfur and oxygen in the incisal region (tubercle), phosphorus and zinc – at the equator, carbon and potassium – in the cervical region (p≤0.05). Conclusions: Differences in the chemical composition of intact teeth and teeth with wedge-shaped defects, the presence of correlation between the studied chemical elements confirm the role of macro- and microelements in the pathogenesis of non-carious cervical lesions.

Endoscopic ultrasonography is the method of choice for detection of morphologic changes related to chronic pancreatitis. There are criteria, in the literature, that evaluate morphologic changes by endoscopic ultrasonography suggestive of chronic pancreatitis. The most widely used are the Rosemont criteria. Currently, the most effective diagnostic methods for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency are fat quantification (disused) and the 13C-mixed triglyceride breath test, not available in our country. However, the probability of diagnosis of pancreatic insufficiency can be estimated over the base of symptoms, malnutrition parameters, faecal elastase and signs of chronic pancreatitis in images. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation, probability and severity of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, according to Rosemont criteria, in patients with chronic pancreatitis. A retrospective descriptive study was performed. Data were collected from patients between April of 2017 and April of 2018. The data gathered was based on pancreatic morphologic characteristics according to Rosemont criteria and related to the diagnosis of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency diagnosis based on the levels of stool elastase. Twenty one patients with chronic pancreatitis were included. The presence of hyperechogenic foci > 2 mm with posterior acoustic shadowing was associated with the presence of severe exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (p < 0.001). In our study, the association between parenchymal morphologic findings of chronic pancreatitis was significant in predicting exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. The role of endoscopic ultrasonography in predicting functional compromise in patients with chronic pancreatitis is promising.

The role of somitic mesoderm in the development of dorsal plumage in chick embryos. II. Regionalisation. Transplantation and inversion experiments were performed on the somitic mesoderm of 2- to 2·5-day chick embryos in order to study the role of regional and axial determinations in the development of the dorsal plumage. The transposition of a piece of somitic mesoderm from the posterior cervical region (where the spinal pteryla is narrow) to the thoraco-lumbar region (where it is wide) leads to a local and unilateral narrowing of the spinal pteryla at the operation site. Conversely, the transposition of somitic mesoderm from the thoraco-lumbar region to the posterior cervical region results in a local and unilateral widening of the spinal pteryla. Consequently at the time of operation the segmented or not yet segmented somitic mesoderm is already determined to give rise to a definite transverse level of the spinal pteryla. The inversion of the cephalo-caudal polarity of a piece of somitic mesoderm without the ectodermal covering, or of a portion of the axial organs deprived of the overlying ectoderm has no effect on the orientation of feather filaments and feather rows. In contrast, the inversion of the cephalo-caudal polarity of a portion of the axial organs together with the overlying ectoderm results in the development of feathers growing in a cephalad direction and feather chevrons opening towards the head of the embryo. The inversion of the dorso-ventral polarity of a piece of somitic mesoderm does not prevent the normal differentiation of feathers in the operated region. The inversion of the medio-lateral polarity of a piece of unsegmented somitic mesoderm has little effect on the development of the spinal pteryla. On the contrary, the medio-lateral inversion of a chain of somites precludes the formation of the feathers at the level of operation. The somitic mesoderm, even when segmented, is endowed with extensive regulative capacity of its axes, except for the medio-lateral polarity, which is fixed irreversibly at the time of segmentation. The regional determination of the feather-forming somitic mesoderm is acquired at an early stage, at any rate before segmentation. However, at a given transverse level of the cephalo-caudal axis, the somitic cells remain totipotent as concerns their histo-genetic destiny (dermatome, myotome, or sclerotome) until after the onset of segmentation.

&lt;p&gt;The large-scale extratropical upper-tropospheric flow tends to organize itself into eastward-propagating Rossby wave packets (RWPs). Investigating the spatiotemporal evolution of RWPs and the underlying physical processes has been beneficial in showcasing the role of the upper-tropospheric flow in temperature and precipitation extremes. The use of recently developed diagnostics of local in space and time wave properties has provided further insight in this regard. Motivated by the above, these diagnostic methods are now being employed to investigate the intraseasonal to decadal variability of key RWP properties such as their amplitude, phase speed, and group velocity in reanalysis datasets. It is shown that these properties exhibit a distinct seasonal and interregional variability, while interesting patterns thereof emerge. Moreover, the interannual and long-term variability in these RWP properties is explored and significant decadal trends for specific regions and seasons are highlighted. Ongoing work aims at further utilizing the presented diagnostics and analyses toward an improved understanding of the extratropical large-scale flow variability from weather to climate time scales.&lt;/p&gt;
