ABSTRACT Payang, a mini danish seine, is an artisanal fishing gear that has high catchability rate. Like payang, another dominant fishing gear in Jakarta Bay, the lift net, is also known as unselective fishing gear since small fish dominate its catch. This research uses the fishing experiment method with payang and lift net to figure out the gears' catch composition and catch rate. The result shows both fishing gears predominately caught the demersal fish group, but its proportion does not much from the pelagic group. During August and October, the catch composition of payang was dominated by pelagic fish, while demersal fish was caught mostly in December. The high catch rate for pelagic fish was recorded in August and October since cekong fish (Sardinella lemuru) dominated the cath. The catch composition of lift net was dominated by demersal fish during May, while pelagic fish were mostly captured in October. Payang’s fishing ground includes Pulau Damar waters, Pulau Bendera, Muara Pecah, Muara Angke, Pulau Onrust, Pulau Putri, and Kronjo, while the lift net dominates the western part of part of Jakarta Bay including Pulau Kayangan, Pulau Bidadari, and Pulau Onrust.

Scomberomorus guttatus is a large pelagic fish commodity in Pangandaran Regency. It has the highest amount and production values, therefore it needs to be maximally utilized but remains its sustainability. The purpose of this research is to determine the most selective fishing gear for Scomberomorus guttatus commodities based on the frequency of Scomberomorus guttatus length, the proportion of the main catch and by-catch in Pangandaran Regency for sustainable and environmentally friendly capture fisheries management. The data used in this study are the number of catches, catch weight and length of the Scomberomorus guttatus catches from gillnet, longline, and beach seine. Data used in research collected during November 2018-January 2019 in Pangandaran Regency. Analysis data used in the study is the analysis of the selectivity of the types of catches and the selectivity of the length of the catchable Scomberomorus guttatus from each of fishing gears. The results showed that of the three fishing gears used to catch Scomberomorus guttatus, gillnet is the most selective and productive fishing gear for utilizing Scomberomorus guttatus commodity because it has a 43,2% of main catch, 84,6% of the feasible Scomberomorus guttatus size. Longline is a fishing gear that is only selective to the length size of the Scomberomorus guttatus that has a percentage of decent size catch equal to 86,4%, while beach seine isn't selective fishing gear and unproductive for Scomberomorus guttatus commodities due to it designed to catch a demersal fish.

ABSTRACTTernate Island lies in a strategic location as it is situated in the middle of  the main fishing ground for skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis) fishing using pole and line (huhate) and fish aggregating devices (FADs). As typical pelagic fish, skipjack that is gathered near the water surface is the younger fish, likewise the ones which are caught around FADs. Therefore, this fishing method has caused serious problem due to the domination of young fish and increasing bycatch and discard. The objective of this research is to analyze the size structure of the fork length, appropriate size for catching, catch composition, bycatch and discard level. Pole and line catch samples were collected in 3 months fromMay to July 2018. The results show that in average, skipjack tuna caught in the study location was undersize. The total catch is predominantly targeted fish which has a higher economic value compared to bycatch and discarded fish. Even though bycatch in the pole and line fisheries are low, reduction efforts are still required. which can be done by sorting bycatch and unwanted fish then discard it into the sea when the fish is still alive. Keywords: biology, pole and line, sustainability status, Ternate City ABSTRAKPosisi Pulau Ternate sangat strategis karena berada di tengah perairan yang menjadi daerah operasi penangkapan cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis) dengan alat tangkap huhate (pole and line) yang dibantu dengan penggunaan rumpon. Kata Kunci: Biologi, huhate (pole and line), status keberlanjutan, Kota Ternate

Identification of fish species has an important meaning when viewed from a scientific angle because the entire sequence of subsequent work depends on the results of the correct identification of a species. The purpose of this research is to analyze the types (local, national, scientific name) and types of fishing equipment operating in the Bangka Island. This research was conducted in October 2018 to April 2019 at the Bangka Island. The method was used  purposive sampling. The analysis was carried out by descriptive analysis and PSR (Pressure, State, Response). The result show that there were 30 types of fishing gear that were included in seven classes that are surrounding nets, trawls, seine nets, lift nets, gillnets, traps, hooks and lines. The main fish caught from 30 types of fishing gear used are 73 species which are included in small pelagic fish, large pelagic fish and demersal fish consisting of 38 families. More than 50% of the local names of fish on Bangka Island are different from the names of national fish including Yellow Stalk Fish, in the Bangka area called the Ciu Fish (Selaroides leptolepis), local name Selar Como Fish called Hapau Fish (Atule mate), local name Tetengkek Fish is called Singkur Fish (Megalaspis cordyla), local name Kuwe Onion Trevally Fish is called Sweet Beautiful Fish (Carangoides caeruleopinnatus), Tembang Fish is the local name Tamban Fish (Sardinella gibbosa), Bloso Fish is the local name Buto Cin Fish (Saurida tumbil). Recommendations given are that stakeholders should pay attention to local name so there is no error in data collection and use of enviromentally friendly fishing gear by taking into account the selectivity of fishing gear.
