This article examines perceptions of the country of origin, perceived quality, and brand image of Chinese household appliance products on product purchasing decisions by Indonesian consumers mediated by consumer perceptions of prices. A total of 402 respondents who had purchased home appliances from China filled out questionnaires related to their perceptions of the products studied, and these perceptions were analyzed using PLS-SEM. The analysis results show that perceptions of the country of origin, perceived quality, and brand image have a positive and significant relationship to consumer decisions in buying household brand products from China in Indonesia. Perceptions of price mediate the relationship between country of origin, perceived quality, and brand image on purchasing decisions with positive associations. This study provides new insights into the relationship between country of origin, perceived quality, brand image, and price on product purchasing decisions from China in Indonesia, where both countries are developing countries. The study offers managerial implication on the importance of home appliance manufacturers from China to maintain affordable prices in the Indonesian market.

The aim of this study is to examine the effect that the country of design and the country of manufacture has on the perceived quality of a product, and the role of involvement as a moderating variable. The conceptual framework has been tested using laboratory experiments that included a 2x2x2 between the subject’s factorial designs. Data have been collected using a randomization method to reduce any bias in the group’s variations. This data were analyzed using a one-way and two-way ANOVA. The results indicate that there is no difference between the high and low points of a product’s perceived quality, based on its country of design. Conversely, a favorable country of manufacture results in a higher perceived quality for its products, than for those of a lower scoring country of manufacture. Furthermore, consumers’ involvement, as a moderating variable, limits the strength of the country of design and the perceived quality’s relationship as this relationship is found to be stronger in circumstances where the consumers’ involvement is greater than in the less involved group’s condition. However, consumers’ involvement does not have any role as a moderating variable in the relationship between the country of manufacture and the perceived quality.

The paper investigates the effect that the country image of an ethnic restaurant plays on consumers attitudes and intention to patronize it. Using a multi-cue approach, the study verifies the effect that the image of Italy as a country, of its cuisine and of the perceived quality of Italian restaurants exerts on consumers intention to patronize them, mediated by attitude and controlling for some demographic variables. Although the richness of the country of origin literature, studies on services are limited in comparison with the ones focused on tangible products. The survey was administered to a sample of Spanish customers of Italian restaurants located in Spain and applying SEM. Results support all the postulated hypotheses. Scientific and managerial implications are derived.

In prior studies of the effects of country of origin (COO) and price on consumers' perceptions of quality, the role of need for cognition (NFC) has rarely been considered either empirically or theoretically. In this study a 2 (COO) × 2 (price) × 2 (NFC) design was used to further clarify the effects of COO and price. We found that NFC moderated the effects of COO and price cues on perceived quality; NFC negatively influenced consumers' perceptions of quality; and the interaction of COO image and price on perceived quality was not significant, but consumers' NFC moderated the relationship significantly.
