Reporting Verbs (RVs), a crucial aspect of citations in academic writing, are used to report the work of other researchers. A Literature Review Chapter, as a key part-genre of any thesis, or a bigger genre where it is embedded, is the main place that has the highest number of RVs. Accordingly, this study aimed to analyze and compare the use of RVs between 30 bachelor’s thesis (BT) Literature Review Chapters and 30 master’s thesis (MT) Literature Review Chapters of Chinese English majors in terms of denotation and evaluation of RVs based on Hyland’s (2002) classification framework. The findings reveal that the RVs used in the BT Literature Reviews were smaller in amount and narrower in range compared with those in the MT counterparts. Regarding the denotation of RVs, Discourse Act RVs were found to be the most predominant in the BT corpus, while Research Act RVs prevailed in the MT corpus. Cognition Act RVs were the least used in the two corpora. Regarding the evaluation of RVs, factive RVs were the most frequently used in the BT Literature Reviews, while non-factive RVs were the most prominent in the MT counterparts. However, negative RVswere infrequent in both corpora. This study would increase the thesis writers’ knowledge on the significance of RVs, raise their awareness of employing RVs, and help them use RVs appropriately and effectively in writing their thesis and other academic writings. This paper also provides practical implications for teaching RVs in preparing research dissertations.

PurposeBusiness continuity and disaster recovery are directly associated frameworks which guarantee the continued operations of organisations after a disaster has occurred. Thus, researchers have continued to investigate best practices in this area. It is in this vein that the authors of this study seek to draw attention to what pertains in Ghana and what role the government can play to improve the situation. The purpose of this study is to explore some of the disasters which have been suffered by businesses in Ghana as well as the causes, effects and lessons learnt. The study will also look at business continuity and disaster recovery measures that could have been implemented in the examples provided.Design/methodology/approachThe study follows a literature review approach by reviewing secondary data on both man-made and natural disasters that have affected Ghana in the past decade through the review of literature.FindingsThe comprehensive study of the selected disasters indicated the presence of business continuity and disaster recovery measures in some formal institutions; however, the informal sector appeared to have minimal provision for handling disasters.Research limitations/implicationsThe authors were limited to the use of the account from the resources used since this study relied on secondary data.Practical implicationsThe study indicates that businesses in Ghana must implement business continuity and disaster recovery plans to protect business operations in the event of a disaster.Originality/valueThe study has not been previously published in any other journal. Secondary data for carrying out the study were obtained from other publications including online media platforms in Ghana.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a new classification of helping behavior using the recipient’s solicitation and the helper’s proactiveness. Additionally, the authors explore helping motives for each of the forms of helping behavior that the authors identify. Design/methodology/approach – The authors examined relevant research and performed a theoretical analysis. Findings – The authors classified helping behavior into three distinct forms, including unsolicited proactive helping behavior, unsolicited reactive helping behavior, and solicited reactive helping behavior. Additionally, the authors claimed that unsolicited proactive helping behavior is an outcome of personality and dispositions, that unsolicited reactive helping behavior is a process of social and instrumental exchange, and that solicited reactive helping behavior is a product of functional motives. Practical implications – First, from the perspective of organizational justice, the authors recommend managers to take the form of helping behavior exhibited into consideration when evaluating employees’ helping behavior because certain forms of helping behavior require greater degrees of cooperation and sacrifices from the helper than other forms. Second, because employees who engage in high levels of unsolicited proactive helping behavior are likely to experience interrole conflict, the authors suggest that managers provide counseling and managerial support that help cope with emotional and psychological strain created by excessive role demands. Finally, findings of this study imply that managers need to create a workplace culture where employees can feel comfortable to solicit help when necessary. Originality/value – This is the first study that classifies helping behavior and helping motives using both of the helper’s and recipient’s perspectives.

Abstract: This research explains as well as examines KH Zaini Mun'im's thoughts about Qiṣas Qur'aniyyah, and the purpose of this research is to find out how KH Zaini Mun'im's concept of thinking about Qiṣas Quraniyyah issues. The method used in writing this research is library (library resarch). Meanwhile, the data collection was carried out using literature review techniques using the work of KH Zaini Mun'im's interpretation as primary data and literature related to the title of this research study (such as books, journals, etc.) as secondary data. Then the data collected is analyzed using content analysis to analyze the contents according to the needs, so that a conclusion can be drawn. The results of the research show that: 1) the method used by KH Zaini Mun'im in assessing Qiṣas Quraniyyah is in accordance with the classification of the Qiṣas Quraniyyah study method proposed by Sheikh Mahmud Syaltut, namely the moderate method, looking at the substances summarized in this method that KH has tried to apply. Zaini Mun'im, like respecting the editorial staff of a verse and focusing on language studies in studying stories. 2) KH Zaini Mun'im's thought about the story of Adam's creation is more inclined to the thought of the ulama 'salaf who say that the story told by the Al-Qur'an is true even though the story cannot be proven logically.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review the literature on halal research and conduct a content analysis of the same for the purpose of classification, as well as providing a comprehensive bibliography. Design/methodology/approach This literature review study covers 56 articles published in four journals between the years of 2010-2018. Journals indexed were from the Clarivate Analytics and Scopus databases and included at least one of the words “business”, “finance”, “management” and “marketing” together with the word “Islamic” in the title. Content analysis was used for the review of the articles and was carried out by two independent researchers with PhD degrees. Leonard’s (2001) approach was used to classify the articles. Findings The findings show that the number of studies into halal has increased in recent years. Moreover, it is found that studies have been conducted mainly in certain countries and specific sectors. Furthermore, one of the most important findings is that there are no denomination-based researches on halal in the journals included in the study. Research limitations/implications The findings of this study can be generalized only for the selected databases, journals and given period but not for all of the halal literature. Besides the research categories in the current study, further research can be conducted into various disused areas in terms of industry, country of study, product, denomination, etc. Practical implications The paper provides a comprehensive bibliography that will be useful, especially to researchers studying existing research and for contemplating future research. Originality/value This is the first paper that provides a comprehensive literature review and classification of halal literature for the period 2010-2018.

Abstract Research background: The multidimensional assessment of the attractiveness of cryptocurrency exchanges seems to be an important issue, because the risk of the collapse of such an exchange or its use for illegal purposes is higher than in the case of traditional exchanges. Purpose: The aim of the work is to create ranking and identify groups of cryptocurrency exchanges with a similar level of attractiveness. Research methodology: 13 different composite indicators were considered. Finally, one of them was chosen as a representative according to the similarity of the obtained rankings. Clustering methods were used to identify groups of exchanges with a similar level of the constructed measure. Result: The best according to the adopted criteria of rankings similarity was the taxonomic measure constructed using the standardized sum method with equal weights. Combining hierarchical clustering with the k-means algorithm allowed to improve the quality of clustering measured with the silhouette index. Novelty: The originality of the paper lies in the use of different methods of a multidimensional comparative analysis on the cryptocurrency market.
