Exploring Determinants Influencing the Intention to Use Mobile Payment Service

Mobile services are becoming increasingly commonplace in everyday life; however, Mobile payment (M-payment) is not among frequently used mobile services. The slowness of the diffusion of this service is the point of departure of the current research. The authors discuss why consumers are slow in adopting M-payment service and develop a proposed model that measures the customer’s attitude and intention to use this technology in Egypt. Different theories from diverse fields are reviewed to formulate the study’s conceptual framework. Empirical data were collected via an online survey for a sample of 490 students in “open education”, a type of e-distance learning. The results suggest that although the most important determinants influencing the customer’s attitude toward the service are perceived behavioral control and perceived usefulness, those influencing the intention to use it are perceived innovativeness, perceived expressiveness, facilitating condition, perceived usefulness, and social pressure. The results of the research differ from those of previous studies because of the effect of the Egyptian culture. Service providers can benefit from the results when formulating the marketing strategies to increase the usage of this service, improving mobile commerce.

<p>Mobile payment has relative advantages compared to other payment methods, thus providing benefits for both consumers and the society. This study attempts to examine factors influencing consumer intention to use mobile payment services. Survey data are used to investigate the impact of consumers’ perceptions of mobile payment services and social influence on use intention. Empirical evidence from 489 Vietnamese consumers confirms a significant relationship between the factors and behavioral intention, and reveals that perceived trust is the strongest predictor of intention to use mobile payment services followed by perceived ease of use, perceived enjoyment, perceived behavioral control, perceived usefulness and subjective norm, respectively. The results contribute to the evolving literature, and suggest that mobile payment service providers should particularly focus on building up consumer trust, and making their services clear, understandable and easy to use. Future research directions for extending this study are also discussed.</p>

Purpose Proposing an integrated model based on multiple theoretical approaches, such as the theory of planned behavior, the model of goal-directed behavior and self-determination theory, the purpose of this paper is to examine factors influencing college students’ campus recycling intention and actual recycling behavior. Design/methodology/approach An online survey method was used to test the proposed model with college students. A total of 434 students participated in the survey. Findings This study found that self-determined motivation, attitude toward recycling, perceived behavioral control and negative anticipated emotion had direct effects on campus recycling intention, while recycling intention and self-determined motivation influenced students’ actual campus recycling behavior. Research limitations/implications The findings of the study may not be generalizable to the broader population. Respondents’ self-reported assessment of their recycling behaviors may also be a drawback of the study. However, the study provides statistical evidence testing the proposed model of campus recycling. Practical implications The study’s findings provide communication planners for university recycling and sustainability departments with communication and message strategies to enhance college students’ recycling behavior. Originality/value The study proposes a more comprehensive, tailored model that integrates other compelling theoretical models, to address college students’ sustainability engagement on campus.

Credit cards are becoming one of the most-used method of payment, both domestic and overseas. Consumers need not hassle with carrying cash to pay, hence reducing the risk of losing your money. Credit cards however, have their own drawback as it can be hacked, resulting in the breach of personal information by a third party, and abusing it to make transactions unknown to the card owner. This phenomenon is still in debate among credit card holders. As such, the purpose of this study is to test the effects of subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, perceived risk, and perceived usefulness towards the intention to use credit cards. Psychological factor and risk level becomes a challenge to card holders when they are making a transaction. Purposive sampling technique is used to gather data through questionnaire spread in both hardcopy and online to 100 credit card owners in Surabaya. Data is then processed using Partial Least Square (PLS). Analyzation result shows subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and perceived usefulness significantly affects the intention to use credit cards, while perceived risk does not. The result of this study shows that by fully understanding both the advantages and disadvantages of credit cards, consumers can use it to make better financial planning, and not making transactions that leads to a certain lifestyle.

Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile payment systems allow users to utilize services through smartphones. There is insufficient literature exploring the adoption of NFC with payment scenarios in developing countries. This study aims to explore the influential factors of consumer adoption of NFC, taking payment behaviors through NFC in Indonesia as an example. One hundred forty-seven participants were enrolled in the 5-point Likert scale survey, and 124 valid samples were analyzed with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that trust mediates the effect of context on consumers' continuous intention to use NFC mobile payment. Additionally, trust mediates the effect of perceived risk on consumers' continuous intention to use. The perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness have no effects on consumers' continuous intention to use. The mediating effect of religiosity has not been observed in this study. The findings can enbale service providers and local governments to offer better mobile payment services.

Although, they are convenient, quick and easy but there is not still enough evidence on how successful this practice is. In Nanjing, China, consumer intention to use mobile payment is still questionable and remains as a skeptical consideration. This study is the first empirical research that compares three well known technology adoption models in the in the field of e-banking. It aims to determine the dominant factor(s) which influence the user intention to use Internet banking. Three models (TAM, TPB, and TRA) were used to test the impact of five factors (perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control) on intention to adopt e-banking by 239 individual bank customers in Malaysia. Survey questions from prior studies were adopted and customized. Partial least Square (PLS) SmartPLS M2 Version 2.0 was used for data analysis. Results reveal that the five factors have a direct positive effect on behavioral intention to use Internet banking. However, attitude toward behavior has the highest beta, followed by perceived usefulness, and subjective norm, while perceived behavioral control exerts the weakest effect. In testing the explanatory power of the different models, results found TAM model has the best explanatory power, followed by TPB and TRA models. Findings of the study should benefit banks in improving their use of e-banking technologies as a strategic weapon, and can be used to target more potential customers.

There is a growing interest in mobile payment services and its study is gaining popularity around the world. After reviewing literature related to mobile payment services, the current study proposes a conceptual model aiming to identify the main antecedents of user behavioral intention to use mobile payment services in an emerging market such as India. The authors collected data in the Delhi/NCR (national capital region) by means of an online survey technique. A structural equation modeling approach was used to test the proposed hypotheses. The results explain the importance of perceived usefulness, perceived attitude, and personal innovation of users in the use of mobile payment services. Perceived risk is found also relevant and negatively influences user intention to use. The findings of the study provide a background to preceding studies and encourage online businesses to combine this technology-based payment service.

The study has aimed to investigate the factors affecting university students’ attitude toward intention to use social media for learning. This study embraced a cross-sectional approach and gathered quantitative data via a Google form survey, which was collected by using social media platforms, from a total of 720 respondents. The hypotheses were tested using the partial least squares (PLS) method. The study found that social media literacy, perceived ease of use, perceived behavioral control, and perceived risk has significant positive influence on users’ attitude to use social media, while ICT facility and perceived usefulness has no significant impact on attitude. Users’ attitude has a significant relationship with their intention to use social media for learning. The users’ attitude was also found to successfully mediate the relationship of social media literacy, perceived ease of use, perceived behavioral control, and perceived risk with intention to use social media. Social media literacy and perceived risk have been measured as an influential construct since it is unreasonable to anticipate the correlation between social media literacy and perceived risk dimensions in social media.
