Leadership Consciousness to CSR

The purpose of this case study is to discuss the leadership role in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and thus on the company’s competitiveness, performance, and reputation. The case highlights the adoption of CSR as a long-term strategy in a manufacturing family business located within a highly volatile country in the Arab world where awareness of CSR is not prevailing. By interviewing the owners and senior managers of Royal Industrial Trading Company, one is able to understand how they view their social responsibilities and how they insert CSR into the company’s strategy. Royal has a number of corporate social responsibility policy aims but its current disclosures do not provide a sufficient level of detail to adequately assess the social impact of their activities or link their activities to the achievement of specific stated social aims. The company is enjoying the rewards of improved competitive position, the benefit to their shareholders, and the benefit to the society at large.

A word of CSR which stands for Corporate Social Responsibility is now becoming popular and more often many companies insert the CSR activities into its company profile. CSR has another different names such as Social Activity or Sustainability Development. CSR program according to wikipedia ia an organization or company has a responsibility to its customer, employees, share holders, community and environment in every aspect involved in company operasional. In the management science, there is a level whereas it is called social responsibility or it is just social obligation. Many opinions argues that CSR program will reduce the profit of the respected company. But many opinions denies the previous argue by saying the CSR program is a long term program profit gain since the short term result is good public image. The good public image will lead the loyalti of customer to keep using the product or service from the hotel. The customer loyalti also affected by the customer’s opinion, if they involves in the social activities held by the hotel, they also participate in a social activity.

In the light of the strategy Europe 2020, which is focused on smart, sustainable and inclusive growth [ and the document: Renewed EU Strategy for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the period 2011 to 2014, together with the opinion of the Section for Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship [ a targeted focus on CSR becomes the objective necessity for the companies. Through the CSR companies can achieved the long-term confidence of employees and customers, thereby the environment that allows innovation and growth can create. According to the idea of: Think globally, act locally is necessary to act socially and responsibly already at grassroots level of management hierarchy, whereby during the fulfilment the social aspect of corporate social responsibility is necessary to respect the status of employees, their physical and mental possibilities.

Introduction. In the age of economic development globalization of the country, for a variety of objective factors, relevant issues regarding social management restructuring and modernization at energy infrastructure enterprises through integration into the energy infrastructure enterprises corporate policy of social standards that would meet the requirements of the modern civilizational world and would have a positive social impact. Methods. During the implementation of the research tasks were used the as follows: cognition method, combination of general scientific and special research methods, the analysis and synthesis, the historical and logical method, the induction and deduction, which made it possible to separate and clarify the social and economic essence of definitions sush as "corporate social responsibility" and find out and define the principles and instruments of social responsibility at an enterprise. Results. The article is concerned with development of approaches interpreting the social and economic essence of "corporate social responsibility" for energy infrastructure enterprises, which is manifested in the social, economic and cultural life of citizens and is based on the principles of honesty, sociability, transparency and responsibility. Discussion. Another task that must be solved and which requires its separate scientific research is the formation of a policy for reducing energy poverty. In this context, taking into account world experience it is necessary to investigate existing approaches to interpreting vulnerable categories of consumers and identify groups of socially vulnerable consumers. PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the social impact of an initiative (Hockey FIT) aimed at improving the health and well-being of sport fans and their community.Design/methodology/approachFans (n=80) participated in 12 weekly health promotion sessions hosted in local hockey club facilities. Objective health measurements, diet and physical activity levels of fans were measured at baseline, 12 weeks and 12 months, to determine the intermediate, long-term, individual and community impact. Furthermore, one-on-one interviews with 28 program participants were conducted to further understand the program’s social impact.FindingsThe intermediate impact was noticed as improvements in weight loss, body mass index, waist circumference, systolic blood pressure (BP), steps per day, healthful eating, self-reported overall health and fatty food scores at 12 weeks. The long-term individual impact of Hockey FIT was realized as participants maintained or continued to improve their weight loss, waist circumference, healthful eating, systolic BP and diastolic BP 12 months after the program had been offered. The program was also reported to increase family bonding time and improved the diet, daily physical activity, and general awareness of health promotion programs and components for friends, family members and coworkers.Originality/valueThe positive health-related results from this study contradict prior research that has suggested there is minimal evidence of any substantial contributions from social programs in sport. Through a collective approach to corporate social responsibility, this research demonstrates the ability for sport organizations to contribute to meaningful social change and the positive role that they play within the community.

Of late, the concept of corporate social responsibility has gained prominence from all avenues. Across the globe, most of the prominent leading corporations seem to have realized the importance of being associated with socially relevant causes as a means of promoting their brands. Corporate have started moving from what is our share mode to what is our environmental impact and how much we are accountable mode. Nearly all leading organizations in India are involved in corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes in areas like education, health, livelihood creation, skill development, and empowerment of not just the weaker sections of the society but the society in large. This paper examines the concept of few notable firms sacrificing profits in the social interest within the environmental realm especially for children. Although the analysis of goodwill and quality of different initiatives within the umbrella of CSR is challenging, an attempt can be made to fulfill the social responsibility. The authors have tried to take four Indian firms who are exclusively into a robust CSR strategy, where child rights are being respected and protected. These programmes aim at holistic development of the concerned. The objective, sector, modus operandi and the scope of the programmes are investigated. Also a small effort has been made to understand the needs of children in India, scope of the corporate in fulfilling those needs and facilitate long term change in the lives of the marginalized children. A brief analysis regarding the best practices by the authors suggests that integrated empowerment is needed for sustainable development in the society. Moreover protecting the rights of children should be integral to every CSR strategy. Corporate can impact the access to the necessities, which are essential for survival and development of children in many ways.

Purpose – The aim of this study is to explore drivers of corporate community involvement (CCI) initiatives and the challenges faced by companies in measuring the social impact of their initiatives in Australia. Design/methodology/approach – The authors conducted semi-structured interviews with various corporate social responsibility (CSR) or CCI managers from Australian companies and their not-for-profit (NFP) partners. The final sample consists of 27 managers from a mix of industries. Findings – The study shows that stakeholder's salience may have an impact on CCI activities, especially in the area of measurements and reporting activities. Moreover, while some companies have attempted to measure the social impact of their initiatives, a large number of companies have not. This is all the more surprising given the recent focus in marketing on accountability and measurement. The results show three challenges: lack of interest, lack of resources and lack of consensus. Subsequently, the authors offer some research propositions to underline these challenges. Originality/value – This study focuses on CCI which is one of the most visible parts of corporate social responsibility (CSR). It draws on interviews with various managers in charge of companies' CSR or CCI.

Abstract In the context of a modern economy, maximizing the value of economic entities cannot be achieved only through basic activities. The fulfillment of this strategic objective implies the conduct of other types of activities bearing a social impact, brought together under the concept of corporate social responsibility. In this context, the authors intend to empirically investigate the social responsibility, both in terms of concept, evolution, and management, at the level of the economic entities and to argue the necessity of extending it at a microeconomic level for a sustainable development.

The mining industry has a huge environmental and social impact in the country/region where is located, consequently its contribution for sustainable development has been widely discussed. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) represents a challenge for this industry, namely, its inclusion as a common management practice integrated in the company´s management control system. For such, it´s imperative that there is a balance between the economic, environmental and social company's concerns. The aim of this article is to study that challenge in a Portuguese subsidiary belonging to a Japanese economic group. The data were collected through interviews and document analysis. The results suggest that CSR practices are not integrated in the management control system, are not part of a long-term environment strategy, and only reflect compliance with Portuguese legislation. It is expected, with this study, to contribute for the literature enrichment about CSR in multinationals companies operating in the extractive industry.
