Knowledge management focuses on capturing and sharing knowledge. Because of this, KM researchers tend to focus on issues related to knowledge capture, storage, and sharing. However, because knowledge is valuable, it is a target needing to be protected. This chapter posits that KM researchers and practitioners also need to think about security and explores how important security skills are to KM practitioners and researchers. A literature review was performed to determine how much attention is paid by KM researchers to knowledge security. Additionally, KM job postings were examined to determine if security skills are considered important by those hiring KM practitioners. Next, a survey was prepared for exploring security attitudes of KM practitioners as an area of future research. Finally, future research areas for IS security are proposed that can greatly benefit from lessons learned in the areas of both knowledge sharing and knowledge sourcing.

Additionally, 50 KM job postings were examined from the spring of 2013 to determine if security skills are considered important by those hiring KM practitioners. Additionally, 38 job postings were examined from the summer of 2014 to determine if required skills changed based on the Target breech. Finally, a survey was prepared for exploring security attitudes of KM practitioners as an area of future research.

The purpose of the study is to explore the enablers and barriers of knowledge-sharing and consider how knowledge-sharing is implemented by research centers. The literature review covers journals which are indexed (Scopus, ProQuest, and Thomson Reuters) and specialized in knowledge-sharing in research centers. The papers could be easily explored using the key search terms via search engines such as Google Scholar, Emerald Insight, and ProQuest. The review process included the studies from 1994 to 2018. Key search terms include “knowledge management”, “knowledge sharing”, “knowledge sharing enablers and barriers”, and “research centers” to reduce interpretation bias. Individual enabler factors supporting knowledge-sharing consist of social relations and networks, physical proximity to colleagues, a ‘no stupid questions’ culture, monetary rewards, trust, openness in communication, interactive communication, and intrinsic motivational factors. Meanwhile organisational factors include the provision of meeting facilities and informal spaces, appreciation of research by firms and society, diffusion and routine dissemination, simplification of the patenting process, organizational rewards, organizational culture, intention to knowledge sharing methods, extrinsic motivation factors, and others (teamwork, and solid research team). The study was approached from a theoretical perspective and the model proposed can be empirically validated by identifying statements for each dimension. Future research should explore more empirical studies from different countries especially case studiesin research centers. Knowledge sharing, which has been recognized as a part of knowledge management. It is defined as a willingness to share and to seek between two parties; knowledge seekers and knowledge owners. This action was held to warrant the organization in remain relevant and the continuity of knowledge to exist and evolve, regardless the availability of the knowledge owner. This paper aims to understand the current determinants which contribute to the knowledge sharing intention among knowledge workers and identifying potential future research from the literature review. The outcome from the findings will succor the researcher to determine the substantial factors from various determinants of personnel and organization. In addition, the outcome from the paper also aims in assisting the personnel from the academia in finding the proper channel to reach the knowledge worker and hence gaining the respective knowledge which beneficial to them from the port operator industry themselves.

Purpose Despite the fact that schools should be places where learning occurs, most schools have overlooked the importance of knowledge. In contrast, commercial firms have recognized knowledge as a strategic intangible asset and a key resource of the enterprises. Therefore, enterprises have already harnessed knowledge to a great extent with wide practice of knowledge management (KM). The purpose of this paper is to show that KM could be applied to the education sector similar to the practice in the business world for leveraging intellectual assets. This paper examines how schools can kick off the process of KM implementation. This paper also reports what have been done and what should be done in KM implementation better in a school. This can give insights for schools which will try KM in near future. Design/methodology/approach The paper uses a case study in a secondary school to explore how KM can be kicked off and sustained in a school setting. A KM system called knowledge base and a document management system called Digital Archive were developed to serve as the infrastructure for knowledge sharing. Lesson study and communities of practice (CoPs) were adopted to be the platforms for knowledge sharing among teachers in the school. A case study of the processes and lesson learned was done in this paper. Multiple sources of data, including observations, questionnaires and interviews, have been collected for evaluation. Findings In this paper, KM implementation was found to be effective through dual approaches: information-based and people-/interaction-based approaches. A knowledge base and a Digital Archive as knowledge repositories and lesson study and CoPs as platforms for knowledge sharing have been successfully established to facilitate sharing information/knowledge and nurturing a sharing culture and trust. Challenges faced and the related coping strategies during the process of implementation were shared and reflected. It was also found that building sharing culture is the critical turning point of the process of KM implementation. Breaking through the barrier of sharing was found to be very essential to KM implementation. Research limitations/implications This paper adopts case study methodology to report the process of KM implementation in a school. Although these results of the study conducted in one school may not be generalized to other school contexts, the lessons learned in the study will be a strong empirical evidence of research of KM implementation, especially in schools. Because of the limited number of prior studies and the importance of the pioneering work of launching KM implementation, this paper tries to address the research gap by using theory building from cases as a research strategy rather than theory testing research, especially in “how”and“why” in the steps of kicking off KM implementation in an unexplored research area. Practical implications This paper shows a case of KM implementation in a school with thoughtful procedures of implementing information-based and people-/interaction-based approaches. The paper is a showcase that will shed light on the processes and lessons learned and also helps to provide a model for schools who are interested in applying KM in their schools. Social implications Most people might think that KM can be applied only in commercial sector. This paper shows that KM can also be adopted in schools as well as other sectors. Originality/value This paper represents one of the pioneering work of implementing KM in a school. It hopes to make contributions for KM implementation also in the public sector within which are non-profit-making organizations.

Aim/Purpose: The aim of this study is to develop a research model derived from relevant literature to guide empirical efforts. Background: Companies struggle to innovate, which is essential for improving their performance, surviving in competition, and growing. A number of studies have discussed company innovation capability, stating that innovation capability is influenced by several variables such as cooperation and knowledge management. Therefore, further research is necessary to identify factors playing a role in enhancing innovation capability. Methodology: This study is based on systematic literature review. The stages are: (1) research scope review, (2) comprehensive online research, (3) journal quality assessment, (4) data extraction from journals, (5) journal synthesis, and (6) comprehensive report. The online research used Google Scholar database, by browsing titles, abstracts, and keywords to locate empirical research studies in peer-reviewed journals published in 2010-2020. Furthermore, 62 related articles were found, of which 38 articles were excluded from further analysis and 24 articles were selected because they were more related to the topic. Contribution: The results of this study enrich the research in the field of knowledge management, cooperation, and innovation capability by developing a conceptual framework of innovation capability. The proposed theoretical model may be fundamental in addressing the need of a research model to guide further empirical efforts. Findings: This study provides a research model derived from systematically reviewing relevant literature. The proposed theoretical model was done by incorporating the aspects of knowledge management, cooperation, and innovation capability. The model shows that knowledge management and cooperation are essential aspects of innovation capability. Furthermore, this study also provides the dimensions and sub dimensions of each variable that was established after synthesizing the literature review. Recommendations for Practitioners: Business practitioners can use the identified predictors of innovation capability and the dimensions of each variable to explore their company’s innovation capability. They can also take the relevant variables into consideration when making policies regarding innovation. Recommendation for Researchers: The theoretical model proposed in this study needs validation with further empirical investigation. Impact on Society: Readers of this paper can obtain an understanding that knowledge management and cooperation are essential aspects to consider in enhancing innovation capability. Future Research: Future studies should explore other dimensions of knowledge management and cooperation through alternative approaches and perspectives.

To realize Knowledge Management as one of pillars of Ministry of Finance Corporate University, Financial Education and Training Agency Yogyakarta as an institution that carries out a role of building a learning environment needs to have a series of systems and procedures for managing financial knowledge so that is available and well managed. This study aims to prove efforts effective influencing Human Resource (HR) Innovative Work Behavior in Financial Education and Training Agency Yogyakarta are through an integrated Knowledge Management Cycle namely Knowledge Capture, Knowledge Sharing and Dissemination, Knowledge Acquisition and Application. This integrated cycle can stimulate HR in critical, creative, and innovative thinking to produce useful new knowledge. This research method was a quantitative approach to SEM analysis using Smart PLS software. The results of the study proved that Knowledge Acquisition and Application affect the HR Innovative Work Behavior. However, Knowledge Capture and Knowledge Sharing and Dissemination did not affect HR Innovative Work Behavior, this indicates that there was a need to increase Knowledge Capture and Knowledge Sharing and Dissemination at Financial Education and Training Agency Yogyakarta so that overall employees could contribute to fostering Innovative Work Behavior in accordance under BPPK Decree No. KEP-140/PP/2017 which regulates that Knowledge Management is all employees’ task of Ministry of Finance. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan bahwa upaya yang dipandang efektif dalam mempengaruhi Perilaku Kerja Inovatif SDM di Balai Diklat Keuangan Yogyakarta adalah melalui siklus terintegrasi dari tiga tahapan Knowledge Management, yaitu Knowledge Capture, Knowledge Sharing and Dissemination, Knowledge Acquisition and Application. Siklus terintegrasi tersebut dapat merangsang SDM untuk berfikir kritis, kreatif, dan inovatif sehingga menghasilkan pengetahuan baru yang berguna. Metode penelitian ini melalui pendekatan kuantitatif analisis SEM menggunakan software Smart PLS. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa Knowledge Acquisition and Application berpengaruh terhadap Perilaku Kerja Inovatif SDM. Namun, Knowledge Capture dan Knowledge Sharing and Dissemination tidak berpengaruh terhadap Perilaku Kerja Inovatif SDM. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa perlunya peningkatan Knowledge Capture dan Knowledge Sharing and Dissemination di Balai Diklat Keuangan Yogyakarta agar secara keseluruhan pegawai dapat berkontribusi menumbuhkan Perilaku Kerja Inovatif sesuai Keputusan Kepala BPPK No. KEP-140/PP/2017 yang mengatur bahwa tugas Knowledge Management adalah seluruh pegawai Kemenkeu. Purpose Entrepreneurship in the rural hospitality and tourism sector (RHT) has received wide attention in the past decade. However, a systematic review on this topic is currently lacking. This study aims to track the progress of the RHT and entrepreneurship literature by examining the various thematic research areas, identifying the research gaps and forecasting avenues of future research on the topic. Design/methodology/approach This paper catalogs and synthesizes the body of literature from the year 2000–2020 using a systematic literature review methodology. After discussing a brief history of RHT and entrepreneurship, the current study presents a review of 101 research articles. Findings The review highlights that RHT and entrepreneurship have received relatively limited attention from entrepreneurship journals. The content analysis revealed different gaps and limitations in the understanding of entrepreneurship in RHT, including a predominance of qualitative studies with limited theoretically-grounded and generalizable empirical studies. Furthermore, a high concentration of studies is from European countries. Six main thematic research areas were identified, namely, barriers and enablers, the roles of an entrepreneur, women in RHT, influencers of firm performance, innovation and value creation and methodological commonalities. The review also advances an RHT entrepreneurship ecosystem framework to summarize the findings. Originality/value Six promising research avenues are outlined based on the six themes identified. The suggested research questions draw from allied literature on small and medium businesses, innovation, women entrepreneurship and institutions to encourage the interdisciplinary cross-pollination of ideas. The findings are summarized in a novel research framework.

Knowledge sharing is a collective process where the people involved collaborate with others in order to learn from them (Huysman & de Wit, 2000). This kind of collaboration creates groups of people with common interest called communities of practice where each member contributes knowledge about a common domain (Wenger, 1998). Communities of practice enable its members to benefit from the knowledge of each other (Fontaine & Millen, 2004). To achieve this, different techniques and technologies can be used, such as shared documentation, groupware tools, lessons learned systems, and so forth. Therefore, to increase and improve knowledge sharing in communities of practice, it is important to study the mechanisms used by a particular community and understand how the knowledge flows through its members (Guizzardi, Perini & Dignum, 2003). This article presents a qualitative approach for studying and understanding how knowledge flows in communities of practice within organizations. The goal is to provide a methodological guide for obtaining useful information for the development of knowledge management tools for supporting knowledge flows in these communities. The content of the article is organized as follows. First the importance of supporting knowledge flows in communities of practice is highlighted. Then, a qualitative methodology for identifying knowledge flows in communities of practice is described, followed by some examples from a study conducted in the field of software maintenance. Finally, we present our conclusions of this work and future research.

Knowledge sharing is a popular research topic; however, the construct has not been well defined theoretically or in terms of how to operationalize it, as there appears to be little consistency. This apparent lack of consistency is problematic for developing a cumulative understanding of the predictors and outcomes of this behavior. This study examines how other researchers have operationalized knowledge sharing, and conduct a qualitative study to further understand this construct. A knowledge sharing and hoarding classification system is developed, and six knowledge sharing behavioral categories are identified. Finally, recommendations are made for future research in knowledge management.

Purpose Transnationalism and transnational concept are extensively researched in many social science areas; however, transnational management and transnational marketing is relatively a less explored research domain. Also, knowledge management for transnational education (TNE) marketing is not well-researched. Capacity building is an established research-stream, with a key focus on socio-economic and ecological development; however, prior research on capacity building from the context of TNE’s knowledge management and marketing is scarce. The purpose of this study is to analyse TNE marketing mix, to understand the influence of transnational stakeholders’ causal scope(s) on knowledge management in TNE to uphold their transnatioalisation processes through capacity building in TNEs’ marketing management. Design/methodology/approach An inductive constructivist method is followed. Findings Organisational learning from the context of transnational market and socio-economic competitive factors, based on analysing the transnational stakeholders’ causal scope(s) is imperative for proactive knowledge management capacity in TNE marketing. Following the analysis of transnational stakeholders’ causal scope(s) to learn about the cause and consequence of the transnational stakeholders’ relationships and interactions, an initial conceptual framework of knowledge management for TNE marketing is proposed. Practical insights from different TNE markets are developed in support of this novel knowledge management capacity building framework of TNE, and its generalisation perspectives and future research areas are discussed. Practical implications These insights will be useful for TNE administrators to better align their knowledge management perspectives and propositions with their transnational stakeholders to underpin TNE marketing. Academics will be able to use these insights as a basis for future research. Originality/value This study proposes a novel conceptual stakeholder-centred capacity building framework for TNE’s knowledge management to uphold TNE marketing and supports the framework, based on practical insights from three different transnational markets.
