Technology-enhanced language learning has broadened the horizons of collaboration in the L2 classroom. At the same time, it has brought the cultural component closer, enriching the overall picture for students when learning a foreign language. This highlights the need for students to develop solid cross-cultural skills regarding the meaning negotiation processes underlying the discursive practices of their respective L2 communities. Only by acknowledging the referential, semiological nature of language and understanding cultural practices in situated terms may students be truly socialized in their L2. This study explores the perception of students regarding wiki-based collaborative writing as a resource in the L2 classroom while paying special attention to the treatment of culture specific elements that may hinder effective cross-cultural communication in their L2.

The article deals with the problems of language learning within the educational universities. These theme is a major one, because it is important for English learners and moreover it is connected with other aspects of the language that can be linked with students’ awareness of the English language itself The essence of the issue is that the perfect acquisition of the language studied can be achieved only by learning the history of the language and the country studied as well as its relation to culture and people. The purpose of the article is to reveal a number of historical aspects of language learning, which include acquisition of material and awareness of historical background. The leading approach to the study of the problem is systematic.We suppose that it will facilitate shaping skills needed for cross-cultural communication. Any language is perceived as a social phenomenon, which comprises not only linguistic items, but also a combination of economic, behavioral and historical aspects. The materials of this paper can be recommended for use in modern practice of various educational institutions.

The main objective in this paper is to analyze the impact of cross-cultural communication on increasing business profitability. In order to do that, the research is based on three main concepts: cross-cultural skills, which are considered in our study one the most strategical tools for companies’ success, concerning both the profitability and the image of any company. Cross-cultural communication, as stated by the anthropologist Edward Hall in his book The Hidden Dimension. Hall is most associated with proxemics, the study of the human use of space within the context of culture. Bearing in mind Hall’s considerations, the paper emphasized the need and importance of cross-cultural education for employees, as long as the goal of the companies is to position themselves internationally. Intercultural communication. Hall’s ideas have also had a significant impact in communication theory, especially intercultural communication, where it inspired research on spatial perception that continues to this day. In the digital economy, there are different indicators for measuring the level of cross-cultural skills within a company: a financial indicator such as return on sales has an important role. Sales play a fundamental role in the activities of any company and they are causally related to the cross-cultural skills of employees and entrepreneurs concerning company’s management. Business management style as well as the type of cross-cultural communication existing in the company will determine the international position of any company. Communication and cross-cultural skills contribute to a positive image of the company, since these are skills pointing out at companies with multilingual staff, with personal and professional experience living and working in different countries, experts on using innovative technologies, characteristics which will strongly impact on final profitability results. The paper concludes focusing on the importance for all the international companies to invest in the concept of intercultural communication and cross-cultural skills as a way of behaving in business, since these skills will reward them with increasing ratios of business profitability in international markets.

[Aim] The thesis is mainly about the great impact of cross-cultural communication and cooperative learning in web environment on students’ foreign language level, cultural awareness, affective factors, cooperation ability and independent ability. [Methods] We carry out practical activities of cross-cultural communication and cooperative learning by means of experimental teaching, video conference, E-mail inside and outside the class and giving priority to computer aided international cultural exchange form, as en elective course. [Result] Most students are positive about cross-cultural communication and cooperative learning under web environment in developing students’ cooperation ability, independent ability, affective factors and cultural awareness(M=4.059, SD=0.732). Subjects who are convinced to totally convinced that web learning environment greatly enhanced their cooperation ability and independent ability account for 92.4% and 78.2%; subjects who greatly approve that the web environment does good to learning account for 72.4%; students who agree the web environment could improve developing positive emotion in learning account for 88.8%; and also 84.1% of subjects believe that the web environment can improve their cultural awareness in language learning. [Conclusion] Cross-cultural communication and cooperative learning in web environment offer an ideal learning environment, increase opportunities to output or input, improve their cultural awareness in language learning, encourage and support affective factors beneficial to language learning and develop consciousness and ability of self-studying and cooperation.

The use of English in all aspects, especially in the world of education in Indonesia, has become more popular. Indonesia has a strategic location geographically, the need to be able to communicate in English is inevitable. This chapter was focusing on the foreign-language learning of Indonesian people regarding their interaction with people from other countries and cultures, which is using English. There were several previous researches taken, to be discussed in this chapter in supporting the idea that interaction with people from different countries and cultures would be able to promote the process of foreign-language (English) learning in verbal communication, especially for Indonesian people. Researches came up with the results that cross-cultural communication of Indonesian showing that the circumstances were giving a positive impact for their work and life, either professionally or personally. The verbal interaction should be conducted well to a better understanding. In order to communicate well, one should be able to master the international language, in this case is English.

Looking at the current public English culture teaching classroom in higher vocational colleges, the main problems are that the classroom focuses on grammar knowledge and language learning, and the cultural explanation is not in-depth; The classroom is centered on European and American culture and lacks the complementary and integrated teaching of Chinese culture; The teaching method of Chinese culture adopted by teachers is relatively single and lacks the cultivation of cross-cultural communication awareness. In the process of teaching, a variety of teaching methods are used together to introduce Chinese cultural elements by comparing Chinese and English cultures and combining with hot current events; To guide students to look at cultural differences with a dialectical attitude and inclusive perspective, to establish their own national identity and cultural self-confidence, to actively spread and promote Chinese culture in cross-cultural communication activities, and to improve their two-way communication ability can effectively strengthen Chinese cultural education.

Identity options available in secondary school textbooks may play an important role in stimulating or inhibiting the learners’ success. They are particularly significant in the multi-ethnic Kazakhstani context with a large number of minorities and their cross-cultural communication in the society.This paper investigates identity options provided in second language textbooks for Kazakhstani secondary-school students. The identities of imagined learners, imagined interlocutors, and hidden identities that are not included were analyzed in the texts. The study resultsconclude that the textbooks’ sets of identity options are likely stimulate or impede language learning. Findings from this study may contribute to the evaluation of current teaching methodology and materials and inform future textbook development with regard to identity representations and identity construction.
