This chapter gives important methodological, theoretical, and practical guidelines to the information system (IS) researchers to carry out a historical study. This study shows how a new theory can be discovered inductively from historical studies using a methodological guideline from Mason, McKenney, and Copeland (1997b), using multiple data collection methods, such as semistructured interviews, archival files, and published news, and using novel data analysis methods from learning and intelligent systems, such as the Self-Organizing Maps (SOMs), SOMs combined with U-matrices, and the Bayesian network modeling. It also outlines the benefits, the main problems, the characteristics, and the implications of historical research in the information system field. Finally this chapter gives future some research directions of historical research.

When presented with an accounting information system based on a reliable system, it will certainly produce objective information as well. Inventory management and computerized goods reports are very beneficial for the company. J-Mart, which is a minimarket which still relies on Ms. So that data processing of reports cannot be fast and accurate. This study uses data collection methods in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. This application is designed to use Visual Basic.Net with SQL Server as the database. The output result obtained from this system is the inventory report. With the creation of this inventory system, it is hoped that it can make it easier to carry out the process of recording inventory, avoid input errors and can streamline the time of inputting and counting stock items in the warehouse.

In a foundation there is a need for fast and fast mustahiq data storage. This socio-religious foundation for the yadufa cup is still stored manually. The previous data storage was still using Microsoft Excel. In the current era technology is needed, information systems to make it easier for admins to complete their work. From manual work to computerized. The writing uses data collection methods in the form of interviews with the admin of the foundation to find out the problems. Then do a literature study by reading the appropriate previous research. Then analyze the main problems that exist to determine the boundaries of the problem. The conclusion of this study aims to research the manufacture of "WEB- based information system for acceptance of mustahiq candidates (Yayasan socio- religious cup Yadufa) is to create and provide an information system that can be used to store data accurately, record recipients of mustahiq participants quickly and accurately.

In this chapter, the authors review several optical label processing techniques providing a comparison based on the potential for each technique to allow for implementation of a scalable and low latency optical packet switching cross-connect node. They present and demonstrate an optical packet switch sub-system employing in-band labeling to allow for transparent forwarding of multi-wavelength packets with multiple data formats at multiple data bit-rates. The optical packet switching sub-system employs a scalable, asynchronous, and low latency label processor. Experimental results are provided that confirm the operation of the label processor in optical packet switching system testbeds. Moreover, the authors discuss applications of the optical packet switching node based on optical label processor and the potential to allow the implementation of intelligent systems for optimal routing of the packets in the optical domain.

Early modern manuscript recipe books have become increasingly popular sources for historical research over recent years. Extensive compilations of food recipes, medicinal remedies and household tips, these manuscripts provide rich, multi-faceted opportunities for historical study and discussion. This paper utilizes recipe books as a means to examine contemporary food preservation practices. Through detailed textual analysis of these manuscripts, and the reconstruction of early modern preserving recipes, I explore the explicit and tacit ‘domestic knowledge’ required for food preservation. I argue that, rather than being a straightforward activity, this was a complex process requiring significant judgement, intuition and experience on the part of the housewife. Preservation was an experimental practice that might be considered under the umbrella of early modern natural philosophy, and the housewife was a legitimate actor in the associated knowledge production.

The identification of irregular users is an important assignment in the recovery of energy in the distribution sector. This analysis requires low error levels to minimize non-technical electrical losses in power grid. However, the detection of fraudulent users who have billing does not present a generalized methodology. This issue is complex and varies according to the case study. This paper presents a novel methodology to identify residential fraudulent users by using intelligent systems. The proposed intelligent system consists of three fundamental modules. The first module performs the classification of users with similar power consumption curves using self-organizing maps and genetic algorithms. The second module allows carrying out the monthly electricity demand forecasting through of recursive adjustment of ARIMA models. The third module performs the detection of fraudulent users through an artificial neural network for pattern recognition. For the design and validation of the proposed intelligent system, several tests were performed in each developed module. The database used for the design and evaluation of the modules was constructed with data supplied by the energy distribution company of the Colombian Caribbean Region. The results obtained by the proposed intelligent system show a better performance versus the detection rates obtained by the company.

The calculation subsystems of the power quality intelligent information system will face many types of monitoring data source, and when different data sources provide data for calculation subsystem, it does not need to change algorithm but need to change the way how to get the data needed; then how to make the calculation subsystem does not alter with the change of data provider becomes a necessary demand;Aiming at the problem this paper put forward a set of solutions, which are dependent on dependency-injection, to help the calculation subsystem in multiple data source supporting.

We explored the potential of using three indirect methods including crosswise, proxy respondent method, and network scale-up (NSU) in comparison with direct questioning in collecting sensitive and socially stigmatized HIV-related risk behavior information from Iranian prisoners. Participants reported more sexual contact in prison for their friends than they did for themselves. In men, NSU provided lower estimates than direct questioning, whereas in women NSU estimates were higher. Different data collection methods provide different estimates and collectively offer a more comprehensive picture of HIV-related risk behaviors in prisons.
