Over the past decades, there has been an intensive drive to implement information and communications technology (ICT) in diverse contexts. In education, ICT has produced significant benefits to research, teaching and learning. Enhanced learning outcomes and effective teaching practices, for example, are reported as positive impacts of ICT integration, particularly in higher educational contexts. However, in order to examine how ICT influences tertiary teaching and learning, it is important to look at the main stakeholders’ perspective. This chapter reports a case study about the perceptions of ICT among university lecturers and students on key aspects of ICT in an Australian university context. Data was collected through questionnaires and interviews. The major findings revealed that there were wide variations in respondents’ perceptions of ICT’s impact, which may partly affect the effectiveness of ICT implementation in this context.

This chapter explores 10 years of development in online leadership by asking, How may information and communications technology (ICT) increase the economic, cultural, or social capital of online leaders in a global information-technology company classified as big business? Drawing on practice theory, this chapter is aimed at investigating online leaders' approach to their role seen “from inside,” particularly in regards to three types of capital (social, cultural, and economic capital). This qualitative case study employs the methods of memory work and document analysis covering the development of ICT by Oracle, a global IT company from 2002 to 2012. The analysis provides insights into four themes: first, establishment of common ground for cooperation; second, working practices; third, critical competencies; and fourth, stock valuation trends. The findings indicate that ICT supports the enhancement of all three types of capital.

This article explores some of the key issues associated with the use of information and communications technology in the classroom. It discusses the relevance of an education technology strategy and the implications of such a strategy for both teachers and pupils alike. The integration of ICT into the curriculum is considered by many as the means whereby pupils, and learners in the broader context of education, can enhance their knowledge, skills and understanding. As a way of demonstrating how this might be achieved, a detailed teaching project is presented for the reader's consideration. The project focuses on a topic on ‘Dinosaurs’ which has been developed with pupils aged 10 to 11 years of age. A detailed scheme of work and lesson plans are included, as are teaching notes, for those who wish to carry out the project for themselves. The article concludes with the proposition that ICT has the potential to enhance the quality of teaching and learning within the classroom. Inevitably this will require facing a number of challenges. One such challenge is that of coping with the change that will inevitably result from the new technologies.

This study focuses on teachers’ perspectives concerning information literacy teaching in two primary schools in Israel—one school that joined the national information and communications technology program and a second school that did not. The researchers used a qualitative research method during the 2015 academic year. Eighteen teachers were interviewed. The findings suggest that participation in the national information and communications technology program did not lead to the integration of information literacy in the school’s curriculum. A significant gap was discovered in both schools between the teachers’ perceptions—who understood the importance of teaching information literacy and its actual implementation.

In the past few years, there has been an increasing interest in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) as a new form of Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL), in higher education and beyond. Recognizing the limitations of standalone MOOCs, blended MOOCs (bMOOCs) that aim at bringing in-class (i.e. face-to-face) interactions and online learning components together have emerged as an alternative MOOC model of teaching and learning in a higher education context. In this paper, we present the design, implementation, and evaluation details of a bMOOC course on “Teaching Methodologies” at Fayoum University, Egypt in cooperation with RWTH Aachen University, Germany, provided using the bMOOC platform L2P-bMOOC. In order to gauge the usability and effectiveness of the course, we employed an evaluation approach based on Conole’s 12 dimensions rubrics, ISONORM 9241/110-S as a general usability evaluation, and a custom effectiveness questionnaire reflecting the different MOOC stakeholder perspectives.

Summary: Information technology has influenced business activities change to such extent that today we speak about new kind of economy, so called digital economy. Digital economy enforces new standards for doing business both on micro and macro, i.e. on global level. In this context, answering seemingly simple question regarding prospects of developing countries competitiveness in digital economy in comparison to traditional economy appears to be exceptionally interesting and even controversial in relation to classical economic theory. Cheap technology and rapid internet expansion offer new opportunity for developing countries to enter easily in global digital trends. In this regard, deliberate policy is required to foster development of infrastructure, education and entrepreneurship along with increasing use of information and communications technology. Through example of national internet domain .ME internationalization, thereinafter is illustration how in Montenegro we recognized and utilized that opportunity.
