Developing Transition Research for Disruptive Technology

There is a disconnect between technical research into digital manufacturing processes supporting the development of product innovation and research into the adoption of these technologies and subsequent products into existing business practices. One of the reasons is the level of technical and business knowledge required for an integrated response to the challenges involved in their adoption into established industrial contexts. This chapter introduces transitioning companies' issues to working with emerging digital manufacturing technologies through the example of 3D printing (additive manufacturing). The chapter provides an argument for the development of transition research across disciplines that identifies and explores the integration challenges involved in maximizing the opportunities of 3D printing. Examples discussed are from the surgical, dental, and hearing aid industries. The recommendations are based on the authors' research into supply chain management and operations in medical devices manufactured using 3D printing for the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM).

Implementation of business education in the world of education is very important. However, many theories and teaching monotonous nature led to the knowledge of the business is difficult to be well understood. Thus, to introduce supply chain management as the business processes of an enterprise, it takes a learning method that is more innovative and creative as well as promoting business practices. One method of teaching that can address these problems is with education game business simulation genre. Chocorillo: The Lost Recipes is an educational game that teaches the business of business learning, especially concerning supply chain management which is packed with gameplay that is fun and exciting game story. This game there are 29 characters that the player can interact with them, doing quests from them, and resolve social problems that occur. The creation of this work is expected to generate business educational game that can provide learning effects without compromising the beauty aspect of the graphics so players do not get bored easily in use.Keywords: Android, game edukasi, bisnis, unity, supply chain management. AbstrakPenerapan pendidikan bisnis dalam dunia pendidikan merupakan hal yang sangat penting. Akan tetapi, banyaknya teori dan sifat pengajaran yang monoton menyebabkan pengetahuan akan bisnis sulit untuk dipahami dengan baik. Dengan demikian, untuk memperkenalkan supply chain management sebagai proses bisnis suatu perusahaan, dibutuhkan sebuah metode pembelajaran yang lebih inovatif dan kreatif serta mengedepankan praktik dalam bisnis. Salah satu metode pengajaran yang dapat menjawab permasalahan tersebut adalah dengan game edukasi bisnis bergenre simulasi. Chocorillo: The Lost Recipes merupakan game edukasi bisnis yang mengajarkan pembelajaran bisnis khususnya tentang supply chain management yang dikemas dengan gameplay yang menyenangkan dan game story yang menarik. Game ini terdapat 29 karakter yang pemain dapat berinteraksi dengan mereka, mengerjakan quest dari mereka, dan menyelesaikan permasalahan sosial yang terjadi. Penciptaan karya ini diharapkan dapat menghasilkan game edukasi bisnis yang dapat memberikan efek pembelajaran tanpa mengurangi aspek keindahan grafis sehingga pemain tidak mudah bosan dalam menggunakannya.Kata kunci: Android, game edukasi, bisnis, unity, supply chain management

This chapter identifies potential areas in which firms can integrate green into current business practices based on the existing literature. An extensive literature review was conducted to examine research and practice with respect to the concurrent implementation of green, lean, and global supply chain strategies. The applied literature analysis identifies that lean not only serves as a catalyst but is also synergistic for green. Lean is beneficial for green practices, and the implementation of green practices, in turn, also has a positive influence on existing global business practices (Dües, Tan, & Tim, 2013). The chapter provides an assessment of existing academic research on the relationship and links between lean and green supply chain management practices. Existing explanatory frameworks are explored and discussed, primarily based on objectives including: (a) identification processes where lean practices are synergized with a go-green philosophy of business, (b) advocating green practices as an essential element in the lean value chain, and (c) developing a green-lean framework based on existing literature for competitive advantage for business firms.

The prospect of use of digital technologies in supply chain management companies of the fashion industry has been considered. It has been revealed, that digital technologies are actively applied at various stages of logistic process in the companies of this industry. Classification of such digital technologies has been carried out and the most perspective directions for use in the companies of fashion industry have been highlighted, among which it is possible to call: 3D printing technology, technology of virtual fitting room, clever mirrors technology and others. It has been substantiated, that use and implementation of the information-communicative technologies, is one of the most perspective directions of development of digitalization in supply chain management and logistics.

<em>Contrary to the considerable development of Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) research, the level of conceptual clarity falls short in unveiling the strategic implications of sustainability integration into core business practices. This leads to dilemmas with respect to aspired and achieved levels of business responsibility increasing exposure to financial and sustainability hazards. Given the various incidents of supplier misconduct and cases where no apparent breaches still impose threats to buying firms, it is undeniably mesmeric experiencing the defiance of “common sense” law: just because risks are classified, and responses are deployed, it would be wrong to assume that vulnerability is eradicated. To overcome impediments, we need to discern between uncertainty and risk. To this end, literature supports that firms address issues based on instrumental and moral rationales encompassing fundamentally different justifications. Building on work from risk management, SSCM, paradox as well as management accounting and control, and inserting ideas from entrepreneurship literature, we investigate these particularities and explain how firms could develop their sustainability initiatives and risk management strategies across their Supply Chains (SCs) through an integrative framework. This refinement allows us to increase the odds of more sustainable SCs through a multilevel approach reverberating the interface of strategy and operations. The paper concludes with commenting on the theoretical and managerial implications as well as proposing avenues for future research.</em>

This chapter studies the role that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play in the e-supply chain management. It has two objectives: (1) it explores how a SME embraces and implements electronic supply chain management (e-SCM) and the challenges facing it, and (2) it develops strategy to deal with the challenges. The chapter draws upon a case study of IFC Global Logistics (IFC), a small-to-medium-sized third party logistics provider. The case study illustrates how the SME embraces enabling technologies, the Internet, and modern business practices to integrate its supply chain management processes and to create for itself differentiation and a competitive advantage in the tough logistics industry. Based upon a literature review and the case study, the chapter explores effective strategy for SMEs in e-supply chain management.
