Domestic vs. International E-Shopping

Contemporary commerce is completely different as regards features some years ago. Nowadays, a considerable number of individuals and firms take advantage of the information and communication technologies and conduct transactions online. In particular, the mobile industry along with the broad use of social networks and improvements in the internet bandwidth worldwide has created a completely different business environment. Consequently, the technology incited many consumers to cross-border e-shopping, allowing access to a wider variety of products and services, and in numerous circumstances, access to cheaper goods. The purpose of this chapter is to investigate the perceptions internet users have towards e-shops focusing on Greece. More precisely, it aims to find out whether there are contingent differences on customers' perceptions regarding domestic vs. international e-shops, since a gradually augmented number of people have been expressing their preference on non-domestic e-stores for their purchases. Additionally, the chapter intends to shed light on the difficulty in understanding vital aspects of e-consumer behaviour.

ABSTRACT This work addresses the risk that adolescents face when they misuse the Internet. The results of an investigation carried out with 206 adolescents about the use of Internet, cyberbullying and sexting are presented. The results showed that parents of adolescents are unaware of their children's use of social networks, girls practice sexting more than boys, and there are more boys who practice cyberbullying in the role of executioner, while girls star in it as the victim.RESUMENEste trabajo aborda el riesgo que corren los adolescentes cuando hacen un mal uso de Internet. Se exponen los resultados de una investigación llevada a cabo con 206 adolescentes en los que se analiza el uso de Internet, el ciber acoso (ciberbullying) y el sexting. En los resultados señalamos que los padres de los chicos y las chicas adolescentes desconocen el uso que hacen sus hijos de las redes sociales, las chicas practican más el sexting que los chicos en la adolescencia, siendo el sexting una nueva forma de sexismo impulsado por las tecnologías, y son más los chicos que practican el ciberbullying en el rol de verdugo, mientras que las chicas lo protagonizan desde el papel de víctima.

Social Network Sites (SNS) have very rapidly become part of the daily reality of Internet users in recent years. Firms also use social networks as a two-way communication with their current and potential customers. This exploratory work means to analyze if Internet users’ gender influences the behavior of using social networks. There is a reason for this. Despite Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) acceptance and use being more frequent in men, according to the previous literature, in line with different surveys on the subject, social networks are more used by women. The authors, therefore, analyze in this chapter if there are gender differences in the constructs of technology’s classic models, such as the TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) and the TPB (Theory of Planned Behavior). They use a sample of 1,460 university students.

Nowadays, the broad Internet utilization and the advancement of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have greatly changed the way goods and services are bought and sold. As a consequence, even more online users prefer not only to shop online, but also purchase abroad taking advantage of Internet's limitless feature. Thus, technology's success has stimulated the process of cross-border e-shopping, allowing fast, less costly communication, as well as access to a wider variety of goods and services. The purpose of this consumer-oriented approach paper is to examine the perceptions of Greek Internet users concerning e-shops. In specific, it aims to reveal if there are differences on users' perceptions regarding Greek versus international e-shops, as even more individuals visit non-domestic online stores for their e-purchases. Hence, it provides tangible results to an under-explored area of online shopping and shed light on the difficulty of understanding important aspects of e-shopping behavior; presenting vital implications to both academia and practitioners.


The development of the virtual sphere contributes to the formation of a variety of forms and methods of communication for the participants, presenting more and more advanced and effective tools for interaction and their influence on each other. The purpose of this paper is to study the experience of using communicative strategies and technologies to promote political leaders online. The study aims to find solutions to the following research problems: 1) to research and systematize the latest information and communication technologies that have been successfully used in world practice; 2) to determine the role and place of technologies for promoting political leaders on the Internet. The paper justifies the relevance of using communicative strategies and technologies for promoting political leaders in online and analyzes the international experience of their application and systematization. Based on an expert survey, the authors analyze the possibilities of social networks as an instrument of political communication and promotion of political leaders and parties.

The article examines the importance of information and communication technologies (ICT) for training the staff for information-analytical and political spheres, which is due to the ever-increasing use of information and knowledge in these fields. The topicality of the research is connected with the fact that the intensive development of information and academic knowledge has become the tendency of the information society of the XXI century. The combination of systemic and structural methods as well as network and institutional approaches has laid the methodological basis of the study. The aim of the scientific research is to investigate the importance of information and communication technologies for training of specialists in information and analytical as well as political spheres. The certain tasks are set and solved according to the aim of the investigation, namely: information and knowledge as the most important resources and capital of the country’s development in various spheres of society are considered; ICT as a factor of the state political and socio-economic development in the context of globalization process is defined; the interconnection between the growth of the Internet users and the need of preparing the society for the new conditions of learning and work is analyzed; the influence of the new ICT on the formation of new elites such as netocracy and infocracy is characterized; the influence of information and digital gap on the modern educational market and the need for training new staff for the analytical sector, journalism, political sphere, etc. is researched; the conditions of improving the level and quality of knowledge of the specialists training of these industries are determined and the contribution to the democratization of the country is proved. The threats and problems of the ICT development in the political, information and analytical spheres are also identified, namely: the problem of providing access to the Internet to certain categories of citizens (vulnerable groups of the population); the problem of computer illiteracy of the population; the threat of privately distributing information flows, seizing information and communication resources of the country; insufficient level of competences and skills resulting from information inequality (or information / digital divide), etc. It is emphasized that the share of industries that provide the creation, transmission, processing and use of information is growing rapidly; therefore, the topic of training for the information and political spheres is relevant and prospective.

In this chapter, we examine how people of African descent are using an online discussion forum as a site for interrogating the existential question of “who am I?” Contrary to the typical formulations of the digital divide as a measure of disparity in access to information and communication technologies (ICTs), we make a case for how and why ICTs are being effectively used to enable and advance the interests of people who have historically been marginalized and silenced. The contributions of this research extend the digital divide discourse to affirm the cultural realities of diverse Internet users.

Information and communication technologies form, in different ways, the modern person’s world picture. Despite huge educational possibilities of the Internet, the information flowing to the person through most commonly used channels, like social networks, can not be described as completely representing real facts. This problem is well considered in terms of policy, but the reliability or inaccuracy of the scientific information in social networks is studied little. This paper analyzes the degree of reliability of scientific facts contained in Russian social network VKontakte. The results show that more than half of messages (57 %) in publics called scientific do not contain scientific information, and 32.4 % of the others contain not completely true information. The inaccuracy degree can vary considerably. It is possible to distinguish its following types: Inaccuracies, Exaggerations, Incomplete information, False attribution, Representing creative works as real, Gross errors in actual understanding. The analysis of false facts in scientific public shows that more often the facts are misrepresented to surprise, for the sake of this, numerical indicators are exaggerated, information partially disappears or misrepresented to look exclusive. There is an interesting trend of using "photoproofs" mismatching the text in time, place or general understanding, or just shots from films or works of art (in particular, digital art).

Over the past decades, waves of political contention involving the use of information and communication technologies have swept across the globe. The phenomenon stimulates the scholarship on digital communication technologies and contentious collective action to thrive as an exciting, relevant, but highly fragmentary and contested field with disciplinary boundaries. To advance the interdisciplinary understanding, Shifting Dynamics of Contention in the Digital Age outlines a communication-centered framework that articulates the intricate relationship between technology, communication, and contention. It further prods us to engage more critically with existing theories from communication, sociology, and political science on digital technologies and political movements. Given the theoretical endeavor, Shifting Dynamics of Contention in the Digital Age systematically explores, for the first time, the influence of mobile technology on political contention in China, the country with the world’s largest number of mobile and Internet users. Using first-hand in-depth interview and fieldwork data, it tracks the strategic choice of mobile phones as repertoires of contention, illustrates the effective mobilization of mobile communication on the basis of its strong and reciprocal social ties, and identifies the communicative practice of forwarding officially alleged “rumors” as a form of everyday resistance. Through this ground-breaking study, Shifting Dynamics of Contention in the Digital Age presents a nuanced portrayal of an emerging dynamics of contention—both its strengths and limitations—through the embedding of mobile communication into Chinese society and politics.

Beside the fact that the Internet was not primarily educational network (it didn’t emerge from the intention to be systematically used in the field of education), shortly after it emerged, possibilities of its application in education were recognised. This paper is dedicated to analysis of the most important chronological moments (technological and social in the first place) that were crucial in sense of comprehensive application of the Internet in service of education in general, but also in service of adult education. Having all mentioned in focus, in more details, we analysed emergence and development of the Internet observed as educational computer network in frame of general development of information and communication technologies. While realising mentioned analysis, our focus was on four historical periods of educational computer technologies. We also intended to emphasize the activities of international institutions that followed, encouraged and supported the development of the Internet use and the use of other information and communication technologies in the field of education. According to that, we distinguished the main moments referring activities of these organisations which describe in the best manner their contributions to growing application of the Internet in education in general, but also in adult education.
