The security issue of currency has attracted awareness from the public. De-spite the development of applying various anti-counterfeit methods on currency notes, cheaters are able to produce illegal copies and circulate them in market without being detected. By reviewing related work in currency security, the focus of this paper is on conducting a comparative study of feature extraction and classification algorithms of currency notes authentication. We extract various computational features from the dataset consisting of US dollar (USD), Chinese Yuan (CNY) and New Zealand Dollar (NZD) and apply the classification algorithms to currency identification. Our contributions are to find and implement various algorithms from the existing literatures and choose the best approaches for use.

Vehicle re-identification is attracting an increasing amount of attention in intelligent transportation and is widely used in public security. In comparison to person re-identification, vehicle re-identification is more challenging because vehicles with different IDs are generated by a unified pipeline and cannot only be distinguished based on the subtle differences in their features such as lights, ornaments, and decorations. In this paper, we propose a local feature-aware Siamese matching model for vehicle re-identification. A local feature-aware Siamese matching model focuses on the informative parts in an image and these are the parts most likely to differ among vehicles with different IDs. In addition, we utilize Siamese feature matching to better supervise our attention. Furthermore, a perspective transformer network, which can eliminate image deformation, has been designed for feature extraction. We have conducted extensive experiments on three large-scale vehicle re-ID datasets, i.e., VeRi-776, VehicleID, and PKU-VD, and the results show that our method is superior to the state-of-the-art methods.

We present a review of the state of the art of the techniques and algorithms most used in the selection and detection of characteristics of electroencephalographic signals of people when consciously performing activities. These features are numeric parameters that describe the behavior of the signal and are the basis of patterns. In addition, previous experiences in the acquisition of electroencephalographic signals using the Epoc brain-computer interface manufactured by Emotiv are presented. First, some techniques used to eliminate artifacts (disturbances) present in the signal generated by blinking, strong breathing or other movements that contaminate the signal are presented. Later, the algorithms most frequently used in the processing of electroencephalographic signals are shown for the extraction of characteristics that describe the behavior of these patterns and that can be used to detect and recognize patterns in other signals. Finally, we present the lessons that we have acquired as a work team in the recording of electroencephalographic signals in order to be helpful for beginners.

<p>In what many commentators have characterised as a contradictory trajectory, a number of people involved in radical anti-state activism, which defined New Zealand from the late 1960s to the 1980s, became consultants on biculturalism for government agencies by the late 1980s. These consultants ran seminars for Pākehā public servants on the history and contemporary impact of Māori oppression under colonialism; Māori language, culture, and protocol; and the proposed future of the Crown-Māori relationship. This thesis uses genealogy and case study methodology to track the emergence of bicultural consultancies, their ideology and techniques, and their role in Māori policy reform beginning in the late 1980s. It aims to reveal the connections and disjunctions between the goals of anti-state activists active from the late 1960s to the 1980s, and the bicultural consultancies which emerged by the late 1980s.  Māori anti-racist and anti-state activists and their Pākehā allies skilfully leveraged the state by invoking the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi to call for a new partnership between Māori and the state, a partnership that by the 1980s was officially termed biculturalism. The public sector, which was identified as institutionally racist by activists, was an important focus of this activism. Activists demanded that Pākehā-dominated government departments be reformed to better reflect and serve Māori. The state’s response to these demands, beginning in earnest with the 1988 policy paper Te Urupare Rangapu and additionally sustained by the precepts of so-called ‘bicultural’ or ‘Treaty’ issues, created the demand for consultants to assist with reforming Māori policy making and delivery, and by extension, those public servants that would be responsible for the success of these reforms. While bicultural consultants were still working with anti-racist ideas and frameworks, the ascendancy of bicultural and Treaty discourses by the end of the 1980s somewhat obfuscated the ontologies of race and institutional racism in their work.</p>

This article presents the state of the art on the use of radiofrequency communication for the detection of objects and vehicles in motion, through the interaction between transmitter and receiver devices using ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) bands. By quantifying parameters such as the absence or presence of signals and their intensity, it is possible to approximate the distance between an emitting device and a receiver, localized in the vehicle and a fixed point, respectively . The study of the methodologies used in this article aims to develop a system oriented to guide people with visual disabilities in the public transportation system, taking advantage of the main characteristics of radiofrequency communication: low cost, easy implementation and full compatibility with electronic boards built on embedded systems.Keywords: radiofrequency, ISM bands, detection of vehicles in motion, support for visual disability people, ETA

This chapter provides an overview of the state of the art concerning the application of ICTs in parliaments and of the main problems identified when considering engaging the public through ICTs. Using the Portuguese Parliament as a case study, the chapter analyzes some effective approaches using ICTs to involve citizens and to support the dialogue regarding the legislative process. The conclusion emerging from the chapter is that the use of ICTs is not enough to get citizens to trust the parliament and to maintain their involvement. Parliaments need to follow a strategic and coherent plan that considers other questions apart from technology and goes beyond making documents available to the public. Parliaments need to ensure that their information systems provide both information and communication and meet the criteria of clarity, accuracy, timeliness, completeness, and the provision of feedback.

Text-based reading comprehension models have great research significance and market value and are one of the main directions of natural language processing. Reading comprehension models of single-span answers have recently attracted more attention and achieved significant results. In contrast, multi-span answer models for reading comprehension have been less investigated and their performances need improvement. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a text-based multi-span network for reading comprehension, ALBERT_SBoundary, and build a multi-span answer corpus, MultiSpan_NMU. We also conduct extensive experiments on the public multi-span corpus, MultiSpan_DROP, and our multi-span answer corpus, MultiSpan_NMU, and compare the proposed method with the state-of-the-art. The experimental results show that our proposed method achieves F1 scores of 84.10 and 92.88 on MultiSpan_DROP and MultiSpan_NMU datasets, respectively, while it also has fewer parameters and a shorter training time.
