scholarly journals Aligning and Assessing Teaching Approaches With SOLO Taxonomy in a Computer Programming Course

A teaching approach plays an important role in teaching and learning process of an introductory programming (IP) course. The teaching approach should focus on different programming skills required by novice programmers. In this study, we introduced the teaching and learning approach based on an ADRI (Approach, Deployment, Result, Improvement) approach in the IP course which focuses on both programming knowledge (syntax and semantics) and problem solving strategies. We compared the teaching and learning approach of the IP course with the five levels of SOLO taxonomy. We assessed the students’ performance by using different assessment tasks based on the four stages of the ADRI approach. Results show that the current teaching and learning approach of the IP course addressed all the five levels of SOLO taxonomy. The students’ performance in the Approach and Result stages (82%) are good, and the performance in the Improvement (71%) and Deployment (69%) stages are satisfactory. Overall, the ADRI approach provides positive impact on the teaching and learning process of the IP course.

Aim/Purpose: This study introduced a new teaching and learning approach based on an ADRI (Approach, Deployment, Result, Improvement) model in an introductory programming (IP) course. The effectiveness of the new teaching and learning process was determined by collecting feedback from the IP instructors and by analyzing the final exam grades of the course. Background: Learning to program is considered a difficult and challenging task for a considerable number of novice programmers. As a result, high failure and dropout rates are often reported in IP courses. Different studies have been conducted to investigate the issue. One of the reasons for this challenge is the multiple skills that students have to master in order to be able to build programs. These skills include programming knowledge and problem-solving strategies and being able to pay equal attention to these required skills in the IP course. Methodology: A focus group was conducted to obtain feedback from the IP instructors about the ADRI approach. The performance of the students who had completed the IP course before ADRI was compared with those who used the ADRI approach by undertaking a comparative analysis of their final exam grades. Contribution: The study demonstrates that the new teaching and learning approach based on the ADRI model encourages students to pay equal attention to programming knowledge and problem-solving strategies, discouraging programming shortcuts and reducing high attrition rates (failure and dropout) in the IP course. Findings: The results of the focus group show that the instructors preferred the ADRI approach compared to the traditional approach. The final exam grades show that the students performed better in semesters which offered the ADRI approach as compared to those semesters without this approach. Future Research: Future research will explore the ADRI approach in other fields of computer science studies, such as database and data structure, to determine if its impact has a wider application than just teaching introductory programming.

This article aim to analyze Ibn Khaldun's thoughts on education and its relevance to modern world education. This research uses qualitative approach (Library Research) by analyzing the sources collected and summarized in the article. Result this research shows that education is not only a teaching and learning process that is limited by time and space, but education is a process where students are able to live, absorb and even capture natural events throughout the ages. Ibn Khaldun's thoughts are also very relevant to modern education when viewed from various aspects, namely educators, learning methods, curriculum and educational goals. Positive impact What is expected from the results of this study is the adoption of the concept of Modern Education with the Concept of Education according to Ibn Khaldun.

In the management of the school, the Headmaster must have responsible to take care of  all the facilities and infrastructure. The headmaster and all of the members of the school must be able to maintain and pay attention to the facilities and infrastructure already there is. With the availability of facilities and infrastructure in schools, the students can learn maximally. The management of the schools must emphasize more attention to the facilities and infrastructure. Every people must be responsible manage and take care of these facilities and infrastructure. The head of the schools must have plans, notes, and record to any facilities and infrastructure used in the school. If all management steps have been carried out with good as expected it will have a positive impact towards students in the teaching and learning process, then the achievement of educational goals reach effectively and efficiently

With the rapid rate of innovation in software engineering, teaching and learning of new technologies have become challenging issues. The provision of appropriate education is a key prerequisite for benefiting from new technologies. Experience shows that typical classroom education is not as effective and efficient as it could be. E-learning approaches seem to be a promising solution but e-learning holds problems such as a lack of social communication or loose control on learning progress. This chapter describes a blended learning approach that mixes traditional classroom education with e-learning and that makes use of tightly integrated coaching activities. The concrete effects and enabling factors of this approach are discussed by means of an industrial case study. The results of the study indicate that following a blended learning approach has a positive impact on learning time, effectiveness and sustainability.

The problem of mastering reading lessons among Primary School students is still emerging in our country and abroad. Cognitive theory has shown that students have their own skills during Year One if they are exposed to more effective teaching and learning processes. Based on previous studies, the reading-based learning approach through songs and computer-based music in teaching and learning was found to have a positive impact on students. Hence, researchers want to study the approach in learning Kadazandusun language through song and computer-based music. This study is using qualitative approach to obtain data based on the research objective which has been determined by the researcher. This study found that reading-based learning approaches using computer-based songs and music were able to influence the achievement of reading for year one students.

Management of facilities and infrastructure is a very important activity at school, because its very existence supports the success of the learning process at school. In this article discusses the processes that can be carried out in the administration of facilities and infrastructure, namely: (1) planning, (2) procurement, (3) inventory, (4) maintenance, and (5) removal. In the management of the school must be responsible for facilities and infrastructure, especially the school principal who directly handles the facilities and infrastructure. With the facilities and infrastructure at school students can learn well with maximum results and as efficiently as possible. With the management of facilities and infrastructure the school principal can plan and list any suggestions and infrastructure that must be provided and used in schools. If all the processing steps are going w ell, it will have a positive impact on students in the learning process, and if the processing steps are not going well, it will have an impact on students in the teaching and learning process.

This study discusses the application of reward in the learning process in order to improve the learning achievement of students of accounting class X in SMK Negeri 1 Ciruas on economic and business subjects aiming to find out how the application of rewards in learning to improve learning achievement. Learning treatment in the form of reward giving is one type of approach in the process of teaching and learning activities that can provide stimulus to students to be more academically achievers in economics and business subjects. Academic achievement is the cognitive ability that begins with enthusiasm and the emergence of student enthusiasm in dealing with the process of teaching and learning activities. This research was conducted at SMK Negeri 1 Ciruas- Serang Banten. The research method used is Classroom Action Research with a qualitative approach. The sample of this study were all students of class X accounting SMK Negeri 1 Ciruas as many as 36 students. The results of this study indicate that there is an increase in learning achievement in economic and business subjects by using a learning approach with the application of rewards in class X Accounting students in SMK Negeri 1 Ciruas .This is evidenced by an increase in learning achievement in economics and business subjects by using a learning approach with the application of rewards in class X Accounting students in SMK Negeri 1 Ciruas. This is evidenced by an increase in the number of students who passed the Minimum completeness criteria by 28 people or 77.78%.

Fostering a teaching and learning ecosystem is vital in the 21st century teaching and learning process to determine student's positive impact on social academic outcomes. This paper proposed a teaching and learning ecosystem for Gen-Z students and the researchers developed RICES concept and Fish approach to support their ecosystem. This study will investigate and explore the implementation of RICES (Relationship & Role, Introduction, Communication, Educate and Structure) strategy to build and foster the teaching and learning ecosystem. The ecosystem will ensure educating this generation will be more holistic whilst enabling the learning-centred approach to be effectively used. The paper is concluded with the approach and impact of RICES. A descriptive research method was conducted with the tertiary students. The result revealed that RICES strategy shows a significant relationship among of each element.
