Knowledge transfer effectiveness is considered one of the most important factors for ensuring the success of any enterprise, especially for multinational enterprises. However, in the case of Japan, the effectiveness of knowledge transfer between Japanese managers and foreign employees is not high. This limited effectiveness is understood as linked to the cultural distance between Japanese managers and foreign employees. The main goal of this study is to explore the impact of organizational culture on knowledge transfer in Japanese enterprises. Quantitative survey research was conducted with 365 respondents, who are Vietnamese labourers working in Japan. Analysis showed that two factors had a positive impact on the effectiveness of knowledge transfer: cultural openness and managers' communication ability. The study draws on these results to make recommend improvements in the knowledge transfer process between Japanese managers and Vietnamese employees.

Objective of the study: Knowledge transferring through Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) enterprises is a strategic policy for the economic development of many countries. However, in the case of Vietnam, the effectiveness of knowledge transfer in FDI enterprises is not clear, especially with the impact of cultural distance between foreign investors and local employees. The main goal of this study is to explore the impact of organizational culture on knowledge transferring in FDI enterprises in Vietnam.Methodology/approach: Based on the original model of Parissa (2003), a research model has been proposed, in which the organizational cultural factors include cultural background, language ability, perceived cultural distance, learning style, and cultural openness. Quantitative research conducted through surveys with 109 respondents, who are working in FDI businesses in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.Originality/Relevance: This research focuses on the direct impact of cultural factors on knowledge transfer at individual level between foreign managers and local employees in Vietnam.Main results: Analytical results showed that three factors had a significant impact on the effectiveness of knowledge transfer, including Cultural openness, Language ability of foreign managers, and Communication distance. Theoretical/methodological contributions: The study helps to test the measurement scales and contributes an empirical study in this field.Social/management contributions: From these results, some managerial suggestions were made to support knowledge transferring between foreign managers and Vietnamese employees.

Few studies have been conducted on whether the coexistence of green innovation and corporate social responsibility (CSR) has a favorable interaction effect on firm value. This interaction effect is of great significance for enterprises balancing resource allocation between two factors in the future. Meanwhile, information disclosure can reflect the efforts of enterprises in taking on CSR. Therefore, taking China’s listed companies as an example, this paper studies the interaction effect of CSR after being divided into the three different dimensions of environment, society, and governance (ESG) and green innovation on firm value. The quantile regression method can reflect the impact of CSR and green innovation on the firm value of different levels. The study finds that: (1) green innovation can promote the improvement of medium- and high-level firm value; (2) only the disclosure of environmental and social information can have a positive impact on firm value; (3) the interaction effect between green innovation and social disclosure on firm value is a substitution effect, which will gradually weaken with the increase of firm value. This paper proposes that relevant departments should guide green funds into enterprises with capital constraints to alleviate the issue of fund crowding into CSR and green innovation.

Purpose This study aims to develop a theoretical framework of the impact of clan and hierarchy cultures and knowledge technological capabilities on organizational learning. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire survey was used to collect data from 693 employees working in knowledge management centers in various law and enforcement units in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Structural equation modeling was used to test the relationships between the variables. Findings The findings show that the clan culture had a significant negative effect on organizational learning. However, hierarchy culture and knowledge technological capabilities had a significant positive impact in predicting organizational learning behavior. Research limitations/implications The study focuses on a specific type of public organization only, which somewhat limits the generalizability of the research results. Second, as the study was cross-sectional, the causal relationships could not be inferred directly. The study results will help policymakers create a learning organization by examining the impact of organizational culture and knowledge of technological capabilities. Originality/value This paper has added knowledge about the relationship between culture types, knowledge technological capabilities and organizational learning, particularly in the UAE. This study helps to bridge the gap in research on culture and knowledge technological capabilities and organizational learning.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of organizational culture (OC) on social capital (SC) between experts of research-based industrial organizations who were aware of the subject of research. Design/methodology/approach The tools in this study were the native and modified questionnaire of Denison OC model with 33 items and Abili’s developed questionnaire based on Nahapiet and Ghoshal model for SC with 24 items. Validity of questionnaire well approved based on face validity method by experts, specialists and professors of management. Using the results of pre-test, Cronbach’s alpha was showed the very high reliability. Because of the low number of experts, we did not sampling and decided to distribute questionnaires among all of them. In all, 120 completely filled questionnaires were returned out of the 134 distributed. For examining the main hypothesis and sub-hypothesis of this study simple linear regression and multiple regression analysis were used. Findings The results of regression analysis showed that regression line ascribes changes in dependent variable (SC) to independent variable (OC). It means that in research-based industrial organizations, OC has a significant positive impact on SC and cultural traits with internal focus have more impact on SC than those with external focus. Then, with the use of parametric tests, the relationship between OC and SC and between components of OC and SC was investigated. Finally, Pearson correlation tests results confirmed the significant relationships. Overall, the results of this study show the significant, positive, strong relationship between OC and SC. Originality/value As there are not many studies about the impact of OC on SC, this paper’s findings will be useful to assess and improve the cultural situation for increasing the SC in organization.

ABSTRACTBackground: The majority of people in the early and middle stages of dementia are cared for at home by non-paid caregivers, the majority of whom will be family members. Two factors which could have an impact on the quality of care provided to the care-recipient are the caregiver's motivations for providing care and the meaning s/he finds in caregiving. The aim of this review is to explore the potential impact of both meaning and motivation on the wellbeing of caregivers of people with dementia. The review also explores individual differences in motivations to provide care.Methods: This was a systematic review of peer-reviewed empirical studies exploring motivations and meanings in informal caregivers of people with dementia. Four studies were identified which examined the caregiver's motivations to provide care. Six studies were identified which examined the meaning that caregivers found in dementia caregiving.Results: Caregivers' wellbeing could be influenced by the nature of their motivations to care. In addition, cultural norms and caregivers’ kin-relationship to the care-recipient impacted on motivations to provide care. Finding meaning had a positive impact on caregiver wellbeing.Conclusions: The limited evidence currently available indicates that both the caregiver's motivations to provide care and the meaning s/he finds in caregiving can have implications for the caregiver's wellbeing. More research is needed to explore the role of motivations and meaning in dementia caregiving.

Organizational culture and organizational commitment are the two factors that related to unoptimal employee performance The purpose of this research is to know, firstl; the implementation of organizational culture,organizational commitment, employee performance; and secondly, the influence of organizational culture and organizational commitment  on the employee performancet. Variables of this research consist of organizational culture (X1), organizational commitment with subvariables; affective commitment (X2), continuance commitmen (X3), normative commitment (X4). and employee performance (Y).This research use explanatory method to explain causal relation among variables through hipotetical assessment. The population of the research is all employees worked in PT Pelayaran Samudera Selatan Jakarta. All of the employees became respondens of this research. The indicators of organizational culture are based on the Stephen Robbins Theory, organizational commitment indicators adoptedfrom Meyer and Allen Theory, and employee performance based on Bernardin and Russel theory.       Generally, it is found that the perception to organizational culture, organizational  commitment and employee performance of PT pelayaran Samudera Selatan can be categorized as good. From the path analyses, it is found that the organizational culture and organizational commitment has a strong positive impact either partially or simultancy  on the employee performance.

This conceptual paper seeks to review the literature on international strategic management, examine the trilateral interactive relations among national culture, subsidiary strategic context and knowledge transfer between China-based subsidiaries and their headquarters. Based on the Resource-Based View (RBV), cross-cultural management theories and other studies of international strategic management, we propose a conceptual model for understanding the interaction between cultural distance and subsidiary strategic context in the knowledge transfer process within MNCs, and ultimately the impact on the performance of subsidiaries. Drawing foundational support from this new model, we explore implications for future research.

With the implementation of the “Going Out” policy and the “Belt and Road” initiative, Chinese outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) in the countries along the “Belt and Road” increased substantially in the past decade. This paper analyzes the impact of institutional distance on Chinese OFDI and whether Chinese OFDI exhibits institutional risk preferences, using data on Chinese OFDI in 41 countries along the “Belt and Road” for the period from 2003 to 2018. We find that political institutional distance and economic institutional distance are both positively related to China’s OFDI scale, while cultural distance has a negative impact on the investment scale. We also find that institutional distance has an asymmetric effect on China’s OFDI. In particular, the worse the host country’s political environment, the larger the Chinese OFDI, indicating that Chinese OFDI exhibits the political institutional risk preference. On the other hand, Chinese multinational enterprises are more willing to invest in host countries with high economic freedom. Culture institution environment of the host country has a positive but insignificant impact on the Chinese OFDI scale, indicating that Chinese OFDI shows the characteristics of cultural distance proximity.

Using path anaysis and the 5 per cent PUMS data of the 1990 and 2000 [US] censuses, this study examines: (1) the correlation between Chinese-American sex preference for children and their fertility behavior; and (2) the interaction between the sex preference and its socioeconomic determinants. Of the normative and non-normative factors investigated in this study, offspring sex preference is the greatest stimulus to Chinese fertility. Of the socioeconomic variables, women’s educational attainment plays a primary role in depressing the impact of son preference, in addition to their increasing stay in the host society. However, these two factors do not work on husbands in the same way, demonstrating men’s inflexible attitudes toward gender roles in the family and in society. Son preference exerts a positive impact on American-Chinese fertility and prevents further decline; still, this influence has been diminishing since 1990, as observed in this study.

In knowledge economy era, enterprise needs to innovate to maintain its advantages and competitiveness. Construction enterprises, being pillars of China’s economy and confronting the challenge brought by the strategy of “going out”, the call for their technology or management innovation was broadly pronounced across practical and academic fields. Social capital (SC), as a resource in a social network, is the basis for creating sustainable competitiveness and advantage for enterprises. The innovative achievements and innovation performance (IP) of enterprises are largely determined by their SC. To achieve competitiveness in the market, enterprises must carry out knowledge transfer (KT) with the other members of their networks. However, few scholars have examined weather SC has any effect on IP in construction enterprises. Using a KT perspective, this paper explored how SC affects the IP of construction enterprises. Based on the literature review and analysis, a conceptual model was constructed and validated using structural equation modeling (SEM). Through empirical analysis, the following conclusions were drawn: (1) SC has a positive impact on the IP of construction enterprises. Among them, the structural dimension (SD) and cognitive dimension (CD) have a significant positive impact on the IP of construction enterprises, while the relational dimension (RD) does not. (2) The SD, CD, and RD of construction enterprises’ SC have a positive influence on KT. (3) There are mediating effects of KT between SC and IP of construction firms, and they are partial. KT plays a partial mediating effect between SD, CD, and IP of construction firms. The research results can not only improve an understanding of effects of SC on IP of construction enterprises, but also validate the importance of KT in stimulating IP.
