A Low-Cost Wireless Multi-Presentation on Single Screen in Classroom Using Raspberry Pi

Smartphone has become a daily necessity in supporting the mobility of users, including teachers and students. The need of users to make multi-presentation via a smartphone wirelessly does not fit with the cost and multiplatform support. This study aims to produce a solution by using Raspberry Pi as a wireless digital media player that will be applied to educational institutions to make multi-presentation wirelessly at efficient cost. The results obtained from this study is a wireless digital media player application that is installed in Raspberry Pi, a credit-card size single board computer, and an Android application whose features of sending image, presentation, splitting screen, and able to give control and access grant. The conclusion is an application can augment user mobility within the presentation in teaching and learning effectively.

Collaboration is an important aspect of how our world functions today and an element at the core of rich learning opportunities. The role of educational institutions is one that provides provoking settings so that learning is deep and sustained well beyond the classroom walls. Learners are currently in a paradigm where they are able to learn at all hours of the day; they are no longer in a framework where learning is exclusive to a classroom. Teachers and students at The Bishop Strachan School are exploring this through the various uses of teaching and learning strategies and enriching these strategies with Web 2.0 applications. This chapter will present early explorations in the school with Wiki pages, social networking tools, such as NINGs, interactive timelines, and real-time applications, such as Google apps. Each of the cases provides an authentic learning experience for students and moves the student’s work out into the world.

There is a growing demand on educational institutions to use ICT to teach the skills and knowledge students need for the digital age. The integration of ICT into education provides opportunities for teachers and students to work better in a globalized digital age, particularly in teaching and learning environment, where teaching and learning can take place anytime and anywhere, 24-hours seven days a week. The purpose of this article is to identify the factors that influence teachers' decision to integrate ICT in teaching and learning. The study is chosen because of the strategic importance of ICT in education and particularly, its immense potential, to transform the ways in which teaching is carried out in the classroom. There are a lot of studies in the area, but very little empirical research has been conducted to examine this phenomenon from the teachers perceptive. The present article aims to fill this gap by using in-depth case studies, conceptualized within the grounded theory method to develop a model that will explain and enhance the understanding of the factors influencing teachers' integration of ICT in teaching and learning. The diffusion theory will provide the theoretical foundation for this study.

Inspired by the mobile phone market boost, several low cost credit card-sized computers have made the scene, able to support educational applications with artificial intelligence features, intended for students of various levels. This paper describes the learning experience and highlights the technologies used to improve the function of DIY robots. The paper also reports on the students’ perceptions of this experience. The students participating in this problem based learning activity, despite having a weak programming background and a confined time schedule, tried to find efficient ways to improve the DIY robotic vehicle construction and better interact with it. Scenario cases under investigation, mainly via smart phones or tablets, involved from touch button to gesture and voice recognition methods exploiting modern AI techniques. The robotic platform used generic hardware, namely arduino and raspberry pi units, and incorporated basic automatic control functionality. Several programming environments, from MIT app inventor to C and python, were used. Apart from cloud based methods to tackle the voice recognition issues, locally running software alternatives were assessed to provide better autonomy. Typically, scenarios were performed through Wi-Fi interfaces, while the whole functionality was extended by using LoRa interfaces, to improve the robot’s controlling distance. Through experimentation, students were able to apply cutting edge technologies, to construct, integrate, evaluate and improve interaction with custom robotic vehicle solutions. The whole activity involved technologies similar to the ones making the scene in the modern agriculture era that students need to be familiar with, as future professionals.

Relevance. The article discusses the problems of the transition of universities to a distance learning format. The transfer of universities to a remote format due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus allowed students to continue to receive training, which varied significantly due to technologies, the choice of which was determined by the current capabilities of educational institutions. The article analyzes the result of a study of the attitude and assessment of teachers and students organizing and conducting training outside the educational institution with the use of distance technologies. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of teaching and learning in a distance format in higher education during the spread of a new coronavirus infection. The objectives of the study are to identify factors that have influenced the quality of the implementation of educational programs in full in the electronic information and educational environment. The results of the study. A serious influence of the distance learning format on the quality of the teacher-student interaction was revealed (it has significantly decreased), which is undoubtedly one of the factors that reduce studentsʼ motivation to learn. For many respondents, distance learning and teaching was the first experience of a distance learning format, and therefore the attitude towards it is rather complicated. A significant scatter in the format of the classes, their completeness and content within the framework of distance learning, the low proportion of the teaching staff prepared for its implementation, and the generally low level of technical, methodological and legal support show that the majority of Russian universities are not ready to introduce distance learning. The transition to an online training format caused the majority of respondents discomfort and negative emotional experiences.

Recent studies on textbook costs in the United States have indicated that there is a direct relationship between textbook costs and student success. With textbook costs increasing at a rate higher than the cost of living, many students have cited the textbook cost as an extremely important factor when obtaining (or not obtaining) a textbook. Open educational resources (OER) are tools that educators can use to supplement or build a course. OER are free for anyone to reuse, revise, remix, and redistribute and are a low-cost, tailored solution for faculty and students. There have been calls for research that demonstrates how OER are being put into practice. This case study examines the responses of users to a voluntary survey in a capstone business course that implemented OER in lieu of traditional textbooks. The study suggests that, for teachers and students, as well as self-directed learners, OER provide a valuable resource to eliminate the pay wall, improve learning design, and support the power of the community through sharing and collaboration.

In recent years, with the improvement in imaging technology, the quality of small cameras have significantly improved. Coupled with the introduction of credit-card sized single-board computers such as Raspberry Pi, it is now possible to integrate a small camera with a wearable computer. This paper aims to develop a low cost product, using a webcam and Raspberry Pi, for visually-impaired people, which can assist them in detecting and recognising pedestrian crosswalks and staircases. There are two steps involved in detection and recognition of the obstacles i.e pedestrian crosswalks and staircases. In detection algorithm, we extract Haar features from the video frames and push these features to our Haar classifier. In recognition algorithm, we first convert the RGB image to HSV and apply histogram equalization to make the pixel intensity uniform. This is followed by image segmentation and contour detection. These detected contours are passed through a pre-processor which extracts the region of interests (ROI). We applied different statistical methods on these ROI to differentiate between staircases and pedestrian crosswalks. The detection and recognition results on our datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our system.

Internet of Things (IoT) based systems have revolutionised the way real world systems are inter-connected through internet. At present the application of IoT based systems is extend to real time detection and warning system. However, cost has been a major factor for development and implementation of IoT systems. Considering the cost, ease of implementation, this paper proposes a low cost yet efficient IoT system called FireNot for warning and alerting fire incidents. FireNot is a cloud based system that uses sensors (hardware) to detect fire and alert the user through internet and is maintained and monitored using a simple Android app. The FireNot system uses Raspberry Pi programmed through Python language and utilises Google API for location detection. The FireNot system is also intended to provide an expandable platform for additional daily monitoring tasks and more importunately, resiliency against most cyber-attacks and hi-jacking that targets IoT-based system lacked in most of similar IoT-based designs. This paper practically demonstrates the FireNot system through extensive testing on various operations and the FireNot system is proven to be efficient.

Currently a low cost security system is needed and easy to apply especially at educational institutions that willimplement smart school and industry 4.0. Needed devices are raspberry pi and web camera. Raspberry pi willonly save moving images taken from the web camera. Because by storing an image whose file size is not toolarge will ease the performance of the server. In this study, a design for the raspberry pi based motion detectionsystem will be applied at SMK PGRI Sukodadi Lamongan Regency which has not have security system. Thissystem will save the file in the form of an image that will be put together into a moving image that looks like avideo that will displayed in a LED monitor.Keywords: smart school, motion detection, moving image.

Managing the energy efficient and conserving it intelligently for appliances is very much important. On the other side, it may be possible events mistake cause while reading on energy meter, monitoring and keeping track of your electricity consumption for verification is a tedious task today. Our main objective of measuring the power consumption at homes using IOT with raspberry pi during period time, which can be controlled as well monitored through the raspberry pi across the IOT. We used Python programming language to control raspberry pi. It's based on raspbian which is operating system for all models of the raspberry Pi that subject to linux system. As we say before raspberry pi has inputs and we use it for connecting the supply, energy meter and load such as a lamp or Drill. The energy meter is connected to the raspberry pi. This allows user to easily check the energy usage along with the cost charged online using a simple web application connecting to Wi-Fi. Thus, the energy meter monitoring system allows consumer to effectively monitor electricity meter readings and bill amount in an easy way. It presents a low cost and flexible energy meter monitoring system using IOT. In addition, we use camera which is called camera pi. Camera pi takes picture from meter reading and communicates to consumer via email. All information on the energy meter screen will be taken by raspberry pi module. Using this data, the raspberry pi will calculate the bill amount then send to the consumer by email. Finally, this project will help for the proper and accurate reading of the billing process automatically. Also, it enables consumer to save the money for a long time. This technology offers new and exciting opportunity to reduce the work of workers.

AbstractAutosampling from bioreactors reduces error, increases reproducibility and offers improved aseptic handling when compared to manual sampling. Additionally, autosampling greatly decreases the hands-on time required for a bioreactor experiment and enables sampling 24 hrs a day. We have designed, built and tested a low cost, open source, automated bioreactor sampling system, the BioSamplr. The BioSamplr can take up to ten samples from a bioreactor at a desired sample interval and cools them to a desired temperature. The device, assembled from low cost and 3D printed components, is controlled wirelessly by a Raspberry Pi, and records all sampling data to a log file. The cost and accessibility of the BioSamplr make it useful for laboratories without access to more expensive and complex autosampling systems.
