Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) coatings were synthesized on MB3 magnesium alloy substrate. Two different electrolyte (Ⅰ) and electrolyte (Ⅱ) were adopted, and the performance of ceramic coatings was compared. The morphology feature, phase composition, and chemical composition of the formed coatings were studied by metallographic microscope, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy disperse spectroscopy (EDS), XRD, respectively. The corrosion resistance of the coatings was evaluated by salt spray test. The research results show that, the starting and terminal voltage are different during the oxidation process, they are 220V and 375V in the electrolyte (Ⅰ), and 150V and 270 V in electrolyte (Ⅱ). After MAO, The sample surface in electrolyte (Ⅰ) is light gray, and looks tender and smooth. The ceramic coatings obtained in electrolyte (Ⅱ) are relative rough and white in colour. But MAO coatings obtained in electrolyte (Ⅱ) has higher deposition rate. Salt spray test show the corrosion resistance of samples obtained in electrolyte (Ⅱ) are better than those in electrolyte (Ⅰ), which is related to the thickness of the MAO coatings.

Duty ratio is a key factor during micro-plasma oxidation process. Its influences on structure and corrosion resistance of ceramic coatings on Ti–6Al–4V by pulsed bi-polar MPO in NaAlO2 solution were investigated. The ceramic coatings were composed of Al2TiO5, α-Al2O3 and rutile TiO2, of which Al2TiO5 was the main crystalline. The coating can be divided into a porous outer layer and a dense inner layer. Compared with the condition of the same duty ratio for both pulses, the rise of anode duty ratio (D1) led to an increase in the amount of Al2TiO5 and α-Al2O3 and increased the thickness of the coating; whereas the rise of cathode duty ratio (D2) led to a decrease in the amount of α-Al2O3 and decreased the thickness of the coating. Besides, the corrosion resistance of the coated samples was better than that of Ti-6Al-4V substrate. When D1 / D2 = 60 / 30, the produced coating’s corrosion resistance was best.

The poor corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys become the bottleneck restricting its development. Based on micro-arc oxidation (MAO) technology and the characteristics of fluorocarbon coating the surface of magnesium alloy build a high corrosion protection system, namely: Based on micro-arc oxidation coating fluorocarbon coatings. The formation of the composite coating through the resistance to ageing test through the resistance to ageing test, acid and alkali experiment and salt spray test results show the excellent corrosion resistance performance. Among them, the resistance to salt spray test time can reach 1500 h, which breaks the bottleneck of magnesium alloy corrosion resistance of 1000 h.

The corrosion resistance of blackishgreen passivation films on zinc-plated steel sheet was studied by polarization curve measurement, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and neutral salt spray test. The passivated sample featured a more positive corrosion potential and much lower corrosion current density as compared to non-passivated sample in 5% (mass fraction) NaCl solution. The Nyquist plots of the samples with and without passivation were characterized as two complete capacitive arcs, indicating that the corrosion is controlled by electrochemical process. The radii of capacitive arcs of the passivated sample are larger than those of non-passivated sample, because the passivation film formed on the sample surface increases the reaction resistance in corrosion process, thus the corrosion resistance of the sample is improved. The anti-white rust time of the passivation film in neutral salt spray test is 400 h.

Aluminium plate was cladded to magnesium alloy plate by using the explosive welding. The bonding morphology and composition of the explosive cladding plate was inspected by SEM and EDS. There is a wave bonding at the interface between aluminum plate and magnesium alloy plate. Then ceramic coatings were directly prepared on the surface of aluminum and magnesium alloy by micro-arc oxidation (MAO) in the same solution and at the same time. The microstructure and composition of MAO coatings were studies by SEM and EDS. The corrosion and wear resistance of MAO coatings on the two sides of the clad plate were investigated by salt spray tests and friction-wear test. The results show that the MAO coating on the Al surface consists of Al, O and Si elements, while MAO coating on the Mg surface consists of Mg, O and Si elements. The corrosion resistance of MAO coating on the Al surface was better than that on Mg surface of the explosive clad plate. The MAO coatings both on the Al surface and on the Mg surface can obviously improve the wear resistance of substrate.

A novel process of micro-arc oxidation (MAO) on AZ91D magnesium alloy is investigated in a Na2SiO3-NaOH-montmorillonite-EDTA-acacia gum electrolyte solution. The morphologies, elements distribution, phase components of the coatings are characterized by SEM, EDS and XRD. And CHI600 electrochemistry corrosion workstation is employed to investigate the property of corrosion resistance of the coatings. Furthermore, the anti-corrosion behavior is analyzed immersed in 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution. The results reveal that the ceramic coatings have the relatively dense and uniform in thickness and the silicon element tends to present primarily in the outer region of the coatings. The XRD results indicate that the oxide films are mainly composed of Mg2SiO4 and MgAl2O4 phases. The immersion results show that the corrosion resistances of the ceramic coatings on AZ91D magnesium surface are better than the magnesium substrate.

A novel phenomenon known as Industry X.0 is becoming extremely popular for digitizing and reinventing business organizations through the adaption of rapid and dynamic technological, innovational, and organizational changes for attaining the profitable revenue. This work investigates the die-casted commercially pure aluminum alloyed with 9% silicon and 3% copper (AlSi9Cu3) that is produced through the gravity die casting process. Further, the degradation of surface coating on die-casted AlSi9Cu3 alloy was explored. The acrylic paint electrodeposition (ED) coat, 2-coat polyester without primer and 3-coat polyester with epoxy primer powder coatings were used in this study. Moreover, the 3.5 wt.% of sodium chloride (3.5 wt.% of NaCl) test solution was used for electrochemical and salt spray test and the tools used to assess electrochemical properties were electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization, and neutral salt spray test (NSS). The microstructure of AlSi9Cu3 after corrosion exposure was investigated; also, the microstructure of coated and uncoated AlSi9Cu3 samples was analyzed by SEM microscopy after corrosion exposure. Besides, the electrochemical studies were also carried out on the Al alloy die casting. It was found that acrylic paint ED coatings exhibited higher corrosion resistance than 2-coat polyester without primer & 3-coat polyester with epoxy primer powder coatings. Acrylic paint ED coating showed higher corrosion resistance in AC and a lower value in DC and 3-coat polyester with epoxy primer powder coating displayed higher corrosion resistance in DC and a lower value in AC.

In this paper, the micro-arc oxidation technology were utilized to fabricated the oxidation coating in order to resolve the corrosion resistance of the Mg-Al-Y alloy. The EDTA-2Na solution was introduced into the electrolyte solution for improving the coating corrosion properties. After the micro-arc oxidation process, phase structural, surface morphology and corrosion resistance of the MAO coating of Mg-Al-Y alloy were performed by XRD, SEM and Potentiodynamic polarisation measurements. The introduce of EDTA-2Na in the electrolyte solution improve the positive potential and reduced the corrosion current, which would improve the corrosion resistance properties of the Mg-Al-Y alloy.
