Rapid prototyping technology manufactures the product prototype can be generated directly from 3D CAD data and can be regenerated easily after the design was modified. This paper introduces the principle of rapid prototyping technology and the applications of rapid prototyping technology in automobile design, development and production. It is notable that the rapid prototyping technology is an effective tool to reduce the development cost of automobile products and shorten the development cycle.

The automotive industry includes all design, development, manufacture and selling accessories for motorised means of transportation. Iran is among the world’s 20 largest automotive manufacturers and is in the number one position in the Middle East. Iran Khodro is the largest and most important car manufacturer in Iran and the Middle East, which was founded in 1341. It produces a variety of light and heavy vehicles in collaboration with foreign partners or alone. The aim of this study is investigating and analysing the internal and external environment of automobile manufacturing industry in Iran emphasising on Iran Khodro automobile manufacturing company. For the purpose of this study, the accumulated data of Iran Khodro automobile manufacturing company were analysed and the most important strengths and weaknesses point were compiled and presented in the aspect of internal environment and opportunities and threats in the aspect of external environment. The paper presents an application the research results previously done by group on the influence of technological parameters to the deformation angle and finish surface quality in order to choose technology parameters for the incremental sheet forming (ISF) process to produce products for the purpose of rapid prototyping or single-batch production, including all steps from design and process 3D CAD model, calculate and select the technological parameters, setting up manufacturing and the stage of post-processing. Automobile styling design is an important part of the design chain. In the traditional automobile modeling evaluation, the process of project evaluation is more in-depth, and designers exchange ideas. Different designers have different evaluations of automobile styling. The evaluation process lasts a long time, which leads to the design cycle being too long and the efficiency of automobile modeling evaluation is greatly reduced. The introduction of virtual reality in automobile modeling evaluation can effectively optimize the evaluation process and promote the rapid adjustment of the model on the basis of development. From the virtual reality system based on mechanical engineering, we only need the parameters of the car model to observe the actual situation through VR technology, and use the measurement tools to directly and accurately evaluate the driver’s field of vision. Through the application of virtual reality technology in the automobile design stage, the interactive and network-based remote research on automobile modeling will also make the automobile design process more convenient, easier to communicate with designers, and reduce the development cycle and cost of automobile design.

This paper analyzes the control requirements of scutcher and introduces the control system scheme which is composed of programmable logic controller, touch panel and inverter. And it emphasizes the hardware constitution of S7-200 PLC control system, the pressure detection and display of cotton feeding pipeline, together with the principles of the beater speed test program and the control program of cotton feeding motor.The scutcher control system can feed cotton continuously and equably and ensure the pressure stability of the cotton feeding pipeline. In this way, it can adjust process conveniently, decrease fault rate and cut the design development cycle of new equipments to improve the control level of textile machinery.

Abstract After more than a decade of research in construction automation, robotic tools have brought little if any productivity improvement to the industry. In this paper, we argue that automation which applies to most manufacturing industry does not translate effectively to construction which is limited not by labor, but by process. We propose a radical departure from generally accepted concepts in construction automation and demonstrate that new techniques of layered manufacturing can be applied effectively to construction. In the process, we also modified material processing of cement to adapt it to the requirements of rapid prototyping. We illustrate our purpose with sample structures manufactured by incremental deposition of reactive bulk materials (cement and Silica in this instance).

Nowadays modern manufacturing demands advanced computer controller, having higher input language and less proprietary vendor dependencies. STEP stands for Standard for the Exchange of Product model data is the next generation of data model between CAD/CAM and CNC system. STEP is still under research and development all around the world. This paper describes the design, development and testing of an integrated Interface development environment for STEP file using Universal Data Structure, which aims to provide support for machining operation.  The system also aims to provide function of reading and extracting the relevant information associated with the machining data and to write the G-Code file. The sample of machined block is designed from 3D CAD modeler which consisted of features need to be machined from a blank workpiece and saved in the STEP file format. The validation process will be done using the simulation in the Mach3 software.

An integrated digital routine is applied in the near net shape manufacturing of marine propeller. Firstly, the 3D CAD file of propeller is created by parametric modeling. Secondly, the propeller casting process is simulated using CAE software, through which an optimized casting scheme is obtained. Thirdly, fabricates the mold using laser rapid prototyping and cast the metal propeller. Finally, evaluate the casting precision performance. CAD, CAE and CAM are integrated in this process. The dimensional accuracy of the final piece is controlled within 1mm and its surface roughness achieves Ra 6.3μm. The result shows that the pattern-less casting of propeller can be achieved by this method, reducing cost and performing high accuracy.
