In this paper, meso-porous MCM-41 was synthesized at room temperature using cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as the template agent. Then MCM-41/unsatura-ted polyester resin (UPR) materials were prepared by in-situ polymerization with the meso-porous MCM-41. MCM-41/UPR in-situ composites were prepared by roller milling and molding processes. Effects of meso-porous MCM-41 on rheological properties and wear resistance of the MCM-41/UPR composites have been investigated. It is shown that MCM-41 has a diameter in range of 4-5 nm and the pores are highly ordered. MCM-41 can improve the rheological properties and wear resistance of the composites. When MCM-41 content is 2%, the mass abrasion loss is decreased by 37.4%.

Unsaturated polyester resin/Graphite nanosheet composites were prepared using in situ polymerization under AC electric field which was applied during composite curing to induce orientation of graphite nanosheets. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has been applied to demonstrate the orientation of graphite nanosheets As a result, the percolation threshold was decreased to 0.25 wt% due to the orientation of the graphite nanosheets.

Functional Polyaniline (PANI) nanotubes are easily synthesized in high yield by an in situ polymerization using a fibrillar complex of acid orange II (AO II) and FeCl3as a template. During the process, the complex templates help direct the growth of fibrillar PANI on their surfaces, resulting in the formation of composite micro/nanofibers of PANI. After polymerization, by the post-treatment of removing templates in 1.0 M hydrochloric acid solution, PANI nanotubes with azo function and high electric conductivity of PANI are readily fabricated. The PANI nanotubes have about 150nm-300nm in diameter and several microns in length. At room temperature, the electric conductivity of PANI nanotubes is up to 10-1S/cm order of magnitude. The characterizations, including FTIR, UV-visible, XRD and TG, are presented.

Cr3C2-Ni cermet is a kind of promising material especially for wear applications due to its excellent wear resistance. However, researches were mainly concentrated on the experiment condition of room temperature, besides high-temperature wear mechanism of the cermet would be utilized much potential applications and also lack of consideration. In present paper, the influence of Mo content on the high-temperature wear behavior of in-situ Cr3C2-20 wt. % Ni cermet was investigated systematically. The friction-wear experiment was carried out range from room temperature to 800 °C, while Al2O3 ceramic was set as the counterpart. According to experimental results, it is indicated that the coefficient of friction (COF) of friction pairs risen at the beginning of friction stage and then declined to constant, while the wear rate of Cr3C2-20 wt. % Ni cermet risen continuously along with temperature increased, which attributes to the converted wear mechanism generally from typical abrasive wear to severe oxidation and adhesive wear. Generally, the result of wear resistance was enhanced for 13.4% (at 400 °C) and 31.5% (at 800 °C) by adding 1 wt. % Mo. The in-situ newly formed (Cr, Mo)7C3 ceramic particle and the lubrication phase of MoO3 can effectively improve the wear resistance of Cr3C2-20 wt. % Ni cermet.

The hydrophobic gold nanoparticles with monodispersity are synthesized by using n-butanol reduction in situ under the condition of alkali promotion in cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)/n-butanol/n-heptane/HAuCl4/NaOH(aq) W/O microemulsion at 30°C. The CTAB-stabilized gold nanoparticles are characterized by UV-vis, TEM , XRD and so on. The replacement of simple surfactant (CTAB ) with mixed surfactant CTAB/ octadecylamine can weaken the direction of CTAB to the growth of gold nanopartices and increase the monodispersity of gold nanoparticles. The effects of components of the microemulsion system on the shape, size and monodispersity of gold nanoparticles are also explored. The results show that the size of gold particles is changed by the amount of CTAB and C18NH2.

The polyaniline (PANI)/ CoFe2O4 nanocomposites were prepared by an In Situ polymerization of aniline in an aqueous solution. The composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron micrograph (SEM). The AC conductivity and dielectric properties of these composites were investigated in the frequency range 1 kHz–10 MHz at room temperature. The AC conductivity was found to be constant up to 1 MHz and thereafter it increases steeply and it was observed maximum for the PANI with 60 wt% of CoFe2O4 nanocomposite. At lower frequencies the values of dielectric constant is maximum for pure CoFe2O4 nanoparticles.
