Wind generation can affect the power quality of power supply system in a certain extent at the same time of energy conservation and emission reduction. In order to study the power quality problem of distribution network with wind power embedded, several indices of power quality are defined in this paper, and the doubly fed wind turbine model is established in detail. The voltage deviation, system frequency, and harmonic distortion rate are analyzed based on the simulation data outputted by PSCAD.

Nowadays, there are various devices to detect the power quality of AC grid, where uncertainty of voltage deviation is an important parameter to investigate the power quality. National standards specify several sinusoidal waveforms to detect it, usually implemented into the detecting devices. But these waveforms are not enough and a novel method of detecting measurement uncertainty of voltage deviation is proposed in this paper. A series of detection waveforms are designed using this method. The simulation results verify that the method is available to measure uncertainty of voltage deviation more accurately. Moreover, it can be used to justify whether the basic measurement time interval of voltage deviation meets IEC standard requirements.

Traditional decoupling control strategy of doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbine makes little contribution to system inertia and do not participate in the system frequency control, the synchronization of large-scale wind power requires wind turbine have the ability to participate in the regulation of power system frequency. This paper adds a frequency control segment to traditional DFIG wind turbine and considers the doubly-fed wind turbine operating on the state of the super-synchronous speed, by analysis the effect of inertia and proportional control strategies, a fuzzy control strategy which combines the advantages of the former two control strategies is proposed, simulation results show that this control strategy can more effectively improve the system frequency response.

This paper examines the power quality of Ado-Ekiti metropolis in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The metrics of power quality includes: disturbances such as interruptions, voltage sags, spikes and momentary losses, power harmonics, and voltage unbalances with intrinsic effects on the efficiency and performances on the electric equipment. The necessity for this paper is the fluctuations of voltage supplied to the consumers by the distribution company in Ekiti State. These have significant effects on the power delivered to consumers ‘appliances, quality of their lives and the development of the society at large. The quality of voltage of each consumer in the selected areas were measured with the aid of digital multimeter which was compared with the standard nominal voltage of 240V, voltage deviations were evaluated through the use of standard mathematical equation and linear regression model was employed on the calculated voltage deviation with day and time used as inputs and the voltage deviation as the output. The implementation of the modelling was achieved through the use of Microsoft Excel data tool. The power quality for areas1, 2, 3 for the hours under consideration were poor with respect to R2 range of above 0.5 but better than that area 4 with R2 value of less than 0.5.The results were compared and recommendations were made with the view of improving the power quality in the metropolis.

The applications of wind energy develop much rapidly than the other renewable resources such as solar, geothermal and so on in the 21st century. It becomes the third core energy resource following non-conventional fuels as oil and chemical. Electrical energy generated by wind power plants is the best ever developing and most promising renewable energy source. The wind is a clean, free and limitless energy source. Wind Energy Generation Systems (WECS) are confront with increasing demands for power quality and harmonic distortion control. With the advance in power electronics technology, the fast growth of variable speed WECS is now witness. However, the power quality still remains an important issue to be addressed thoroughly by researchers. This paper presents a comparative study on grid connected WECS having two different Wind Turbine Generator Systems (WTGS) using DFIG and PMSG.

A number of power quality issues including electrical harmonics, poor power factor, and voltage instability and imbalance impact on the efficiency of electrical equipment. To support that equipment operates optimally, electrical power is generated must be have good quality. This study has a purpose to examine the power quality of electrical system AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) vessel. This research was done by quantitative method. Computational techniques used by the software of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), which shares characteristics and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The result of this analysis indicated that Electrical system in VM INPOSH REGENT have quality power very good of utility systems during full way condition, however during maneuver, there was a particularly high harmonic from non-linier devices used as motor control, which functional a role propulsion. Based on the result above, it can be concluded that after filtering so that harmonic can correct until perimeter secure ABS standard, system is very good during maneuver long site and maneuver on DP system.

This paper investigates the harmonic distortion and losses in power distribution systems due to the dramatic increase of nonlinear loads. This paper tries to determine the amount of the harmonics generated by nonlinear loads in residential, commercial and office loads in distribution feeders and estimates the energy losses due to these harmonics. Norton equivalent modeling technique has been used to model the nonlinear loads. The presented harmonic Norton equivalent models of the end user appliances are accurately obtained based on the experimental data taken from the laboratory measurements. A 20 kV/400V distribution feeder is simulated to analyze the impact of nonlinear loads on feeder harmonic distortion level and losses. The model follows a “bottom-up” approach, starting from end users appliances Norton equivalent model and then modeling residential, commercial and office loads. Two new indices are introduced by the authors to quantize the effect of each nonlinear appliance on the power quality of a distribution feeder and loads are ranked based on these new defined indices. The simulation results show that harmonic distortion in distribution systems can increase power losses up to 20%.

In this work, we present a comparative study between space vector modulation (SVM) and fuzzy pulse width modulation (FPWM) technique in neuro-sliding mode control (NSMC) of stator reactive and stator active power control of the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) for wind turbine system (WTS). Two controls approach using NSMC-SVM and NSMC-FPWM control scheme are proposed and compared. The validity of the proposed control techniques is verified by simulation tests of a DFIG. The reactive power, rotor current and stator active power is determined and compared in the above strategies. The obtained results showed that the proposed NSMC with FPWM strategy has stator reactive and active power with low powers ripples and low rotor current harmonic distortion than SVM technique.
