Four series of Mo2FeB2 based cermets with different Nb content between 0 and 6 wt.% had been successfully fabricated by liquid phase reaction sintering (LPRS). The densification behavior, microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of Mo2FeB2 based cermets were investigated. The result shows that with the increase of Nb content, the grain size decreased, but more pores formed. Meanwhile, the hardness and transverse rupture strength both be increased first and then decreased. Mo2FeB2 based cermets doped with 4 wt.% Nb content have the highest hardness and TRS of HRA 90.6 and 1970 MPa.

AbstractMicrowave reaction sintering of tungsten- carbon-, cobalt mixtures is described as a method that combines the liquid phase reaction sintering of tungsten carbide cobalt hardmetals with the enhanced densification behavior of hardmetals in the microwave field. Starting with green parts composed of W-, Co- powder, soot as carbon source and with varying amount of additives a dense and extremely fine grained hardmetal can be obtained in one pressureless microwave reaction sintering step.By this method hardmetals with improved mechanical properties can be obtained in a drastically simplified processing cycle, without time consuming steps such as carburizing and milling.

In this work, the Cu46Zr42-xAl7Y5Nbx alloys with different Nb contents were prepared by water-cooled copper mold casting. The effects of Nb addition on the structural and mechanical properties were studied. It was found that the structure remains in amorphous state at low Nb concentration (x =1, 2). However, some crystalline phases appear in the high Nb content alloy (x > 2), showing a composite structure, that is, the second phase particles dispersed in an amorphous matrix. The effects of Nb on the glass-forming ability of Cu46Zr42Al7Y5 were studied by differential scanning calorimetric (DSC). The compressive mechanical properties of Cu46Zr42-xAl7Y5Nbx alloys were studied. It was found that the compressive strength can be improved by introducing Nb. However, the ductile of the alloys were not improved by the introduction of Nb.

In this paper, the WC-16TiC-xTaC-9Co and Co are mixed together preparing for WC, (W, Ti, Ta) C. By high-energy ball milling, the powder is cold isostatic pressed and vacuum sintered by 1410°C, 1430°Cand 1450°C.The physical properties and the micrographs of samples are detected. The main conclusions are as following: sintered samples have the best comprehensive performance at 1450°C, the density of the sample is 99.7% and the actual density is 10.91g/cm3. The hardness is 92.8 HRA and the transverse rupture strength (TRS) is 1100MPa. The grain size grows up obviously with the high temperature. The average grain size of WC is 0.7μm and the average size of (W, Ti, Ta)C is 3μm.
