With the implementation of energy-conservation power generation dispatching, power grid will lose some peak regulation capacity, and changes of load demand characteristic will further increase the difference between peak and valley load of power grid, especially in the Shanghai grid, primarily thermal power units. Its peak regulation capacity will be obviously insufficient, and the problem will become increasingly prominent. This presents a new topic for Shanghai power grid in the power generation market: Under the premise of meeting the customers’ need, how to provide a fair competitive environment that encourage power plants to participate in power peak regulation actively, and then lead the grid to safe, high quality and fairly competitive virtuous cycle.

New high-tech spheroidal graphite chromium-nickel cast iron with improved as-cast properties is developed. The technological advantages of the new alloy are shown in comparison with foreign cast iron of the type Nihard-4. High-quality castings of grinding elements made of new domestic wear -resistant cast iron are made in the conditions of Russian plants using the developed technology. Medium-speed coal grinding mills equipped with these grinding elements have successfully passed the operational test at domestic and foreign thermal power plants. The technical and economic advantages of the new technology in comparison with foreign ones are shown, which made it possible to guarantee the stable production of high-quality wear-resistant massive castings of complex c onfi guration using domestic materials under the conditions of Russian plan.

The structure of electricity cost formation for consumers, including depending on the cost of TPP generation, «green» energy and other sources, is investigated, and the main conditions of the efficient regulatory function fulfillment in the power system by thermal power generation in the conditions of Ukraine's course on carbon-free energy are formulated. It is shown that excessive electricity losses in networks and, especially, accelerated increase of the share of «green» generation, much more expensive than nuclear, hydro and thermal, mainly contribute to the growth of electricity costs for non-household consumers and the need to raise tariffs for the population. This accelerated increase directly contradicts the Paris Climate Agreement, according to which plans to reduce Ukraine’s greenhouse gas emissions must be developed taking into account available energy resources and without harming its own economy. The dependences of the specific fuel consumption on the average load and the frequency of start-stops of units are found and it is shown that the increased specific fuel consumption on coal TPPs is an inevitable payment for their use as regulating capacities of UES of Ukraine. In this case, the higher the proportion of «green» generation and a smaller proportion of generating thermal power plants, especially increasing specific fuel consumption. It is proved that in the conditions of growth of the share of «green» generation in Ukraine the share of production of pulverized coal thermal power plants should be kept at the level of not less than 30 % of the total electricity generation. It is substantiated that a necessary condition for coal generation to perform a proper regulatory role in the power system is to introduce both environmental and technical measures, namely — reducing the suction of cold air to the furnace and other boiler elements, restoring condensers and cooling systems, etc. An important factor in reducing the average level of specific fuel consumption is also the reduction of coal burn-out at thermal power plants, where it still remains significant, due to the transfer of power units to the combustion of bituminous coal concentrate. Turbine blades for thermal power plants are exposed to severe environments, making it necessary to ensure safety against damage, such as crack formation. A previous method detected internal cracks by applying a small load to a target member. Changes in the surface properties of the material were detected before and after the load using a digital holographic microscope and a digital height correlation method. In this study, this technique was applied in combination with finite element analysis using a 2D and 3D model simulating the turbine blades. Analysis clarified that the change in the surface properties under a small load varied according to the presence or absence of a crack, and elucidated the strain distribution that caused the difference in the change. In addition, analyses of the 2D model considering the material anisotropy and thermal barrier coating were conducted. The difference in the change in the surface properties and strain distribution according to the presence or absence of cracks was elucidated. The difference in the change in the top surface height distribution of the materials with and without a crack was directly proportional to the crack length. As the value was large with respect to the vertical resolution of 0.2 nm of the digital holographic microscope, the change could be detected by the microscope.

Base on Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) participating in peak load regulation of power grid, this paper studies the operation mode of hydropower, thermal power and NPP in Combined Peak Load Regulation. The optimization model for Peaking depth of NPP was set up. The case based on actual power grid were calculated and analyzed, results of the research show that in combined peak load regulation of hydropower, thermal power and NPP, a reasonable peaking depth of NPP will effectively alleviate the peaking pressure of power grid, avoid start-stop of thermal power and abandoned water of hydropower, while ensuring the hydroelectric generating capacity in the low load periods, and ensure thermal power output smooth, it further reduce the operating costs, verify the effectiveness of the model.

http://dx.doi.org/10.5902/2179460X18493Today, the world depends on an abundant amount of energy. Hence, there is a need in creating new ways of obtaining energy to boost industrial production and thereby increase the wealth of a country. Therefore, industrial growth is strongly linked to way to get clean and cheap energy. In Brazil, preferentially uses the energy from the hydroelectric plants, but these may not always generate the energy required to supply all our needs. So, we can not deny that the thermal power plants have a respectable role in power generation, complementing the energy from the hydroelectric when they go through times of low production, as in periods of drought.

With the formation of an international carbon-neutral framework, interest in reducing greenhouse gas emissions is increasing. Ammonia is a carbon-free fuel that can be directly combusted with the role of an effective hydrogen energy carrier, and its application range is expanding. In particular, as research results applied to power generation systems such as gas turbines and coal-fired power plants have been reported, the technology to use them is gradually being advanced. In the present study, starting with a fundamental combustion research case conducted to use ammonia as a fuel, the application research case for gas turbines and coal-fired power plants was analyzed. Finally, we report the results of the ammonia-air burning flame and pulverized coal-ammonia-air co-fired research conducted at the authors’ research institute.
