The copolymerization reaction between gomuti starch and acrylamide was initiated using (NH4)2S2O8 as initiator under microwaves heating at 60~80 . The analysis of the Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and Scanning electron microscopy showed that the product is gomuti-graft-polyacrylamide. The productivity of graft copolymer and the conversion rate of acrylamide vary with the weight ratio of acrylamide and gomuti starch (AM/GOM). They reach maximum value when AM/GOM≈2.5. The flocculating test showed that in water of yellow mud , the turbidity removal rate of gomuti-graft-polyacrylamide is better than that of polyacrylamide.

The inorganic-organic hybrid polymer PAFC–CPAM with 100∶1 (w/w) and basicity 1.5 was synthesized and the comparison with AlCl3 and CPAM for flocculation effect in coking wastewater regeneration treatment was also performed. The hybrid polymer was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy. The results showed that the optimum value of CODCr removal rate for PAFC–CPAM was 52.17%, higher than that of AlCl3 and CPAM with 50% and 40.91%, respectively, meanwhile settling time and sludge volume were improved. Characterizations suggested that PAFC was grafted onto CPAM chains through coordinate bonds due to hydroxyl crosslinking.

BiFeO3 polyhedrons had been successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal method. The as-prepared products were characterized by power X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The possible mechanisms for the formation of BiFeO3 polyhedrons were discussed. Though comparison experiments, it was found that the kind of precursor played a key role on the morphology control of BiFeO3 crystals.

The synthesis of apatite silicated Ca10(PO4)6-x(SiO4)x(OH)2-x (SiHA) with 0≤x≤2 was investigated using a wet precipitation method followed by heat treatment using calcium carbonate CaCO3 and phosphoric acid H3PO4 and silicon tetraacetate SiC8H20O4 (TEOS) in medium of water ethanol, with three different silicate concentrations. After drying, the samples are ground and then characterized by different analytical techniques like X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning electron Microscopy (SEM) and chemical analysis.

Synthesis of a rutile-type lead-substituted tin oxide with (110) face was investigated. The characterization was performed by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area measurements. The homogeneous rutile-type lead-substituted tin oxide was obtained until 4.1 mol% of tin was substituted with lead. The surface of obtained oxide had a homogeneously lead-substituted (110) face.

In this report, synthesis and characterization of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) from gold leaf by electrolysis in two different media (gel and paper) in presence of sodium chloride (NaCl), glucose (C6H12O6) and polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) at room temperature were investigated. Graphite was used as two electrodes, NaCl was used as an electrolyte, C6H12O6 was used as reducing agent and PVP was used as stabilizer to control the aggregation of the nanoparticles. UV-Visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to confirm the characteristics and morphologies of the synthesized AuNPs.

In this paper, regularly shaped AlF 3 particles with cubic structure were successfully synthesized via a solvothermal route. The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The experimental results indicated that reaction temperature and time have significant effects on the morphology of the as-prepared products. A possible formation process has also been investigated on the basis of a series of XRD and SEM studies of the product obtained at different conditions. This well-controlled synthesis approach may be extended to fabricate other metal fluoride materials.

Al2O3−34 wt.% TiC ceramics have been machined with a KrF (248 nm) excimer laser under normal atmosphere. In the initial steps of the irradiation process both the roughness and the removal rate present a strong variation with the number of pulses. After approximately 200 pulses the process reaches a stationary regime where the roughness and the removal rate become constant. Characterization of the machined areas by scanning electron microscopy showed that the variations in roughness and removal rate are related to the evolution of the surface topography of the samples. Also, as a consequence of laser irradiation, TiC and Al2O3 are partially transformed into TiO2, TiC0.7N0.3, and an Al–Ti solid solution.

Aluminium oxide is one of the metal oxides that can exist in many phases such as α, θ, η etc. All the phases obtained are affected by annealing temperature and synthesis route. In this research the Al2O3 powders were synthesized by the combustion method using triethanolamine as fuels. A pure η phase as well as a mixed α and η phases were obtained. The size and morphology of Al2O3 particles were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Star-like CuO with submicrometer sizes was fabricated via a simple liquid-phase deposition with the assistant of PVP and Na2MoO4. The as-prepared CuO have been characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the as-prepared CuO owned monoclinic structure, the concentrations of PVP, Na2MoO4 and NaOH are very important to the morphology of CuO. The quality of PVP impacts the formation of thin flakes on the skeletons. Meanwhile, the growth of dendritic skeletons was depended on the addition of Na2MoO4, and the effect of NaOH is to control the dimension of CuO structure.

AbstractIn this work, we report on the synthesis and characterization of thin films of (BiFeO3)1−x (PbTiO3)x (BFPT) solid solutions of compositions around morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) grown on platinized silicon (111) Pt/TiO2/SiO2/Si substrate by sol-gel based spin coating technique. The films were post-annealed at 700 and 750°C for 1 h in air. Morphological analysis of the films was carried out by scanning electron microscopy. Grazing incidence X-ray diffractometry revealed the perovskite structure of the films and peaks suggested the presence of rhombohedral structured pure BFPT phase in polycrystalline form. Scanning electron microscopy suggested that films annealed at 750degC had a denser microstructure as compared to those at 700°C. The room temperature dielectric constant of the films with composition of BF:PT :: 75:25 was measured to be ∼1200 at a frequency of 100 kHz.
