With the improvement of accuracy requirements for industrial products, the precise injection molding is replacing the traditional injection molding quickly and widely. Many factors influence the quality of injection-molded parts greatly, such as the property of the plastics, mold structure and the manufacturing accuracy, injecting machine and the injecting process parameters. In this paper, the work is emphasized for the influence of mold structure on the quality of injection-molded parts. Eight portions of injection mold are analyzed, including the cavities and cores, the guide components, the runner system, the ejection system, the side-core pulling mechanism, the temperature balance system, the venting system and the supporting parts. The structural characteristics of the above eight portions are presented.

The deformation seriously affects the quality of the products, which is one of the common defects of plastic parts in the injection molding. Factorial design and CAE technology was used to study the product's warping rate influence in this paper. The minimum warping rate was obtained through the Minitab software and the optimized process parameters are verified with the Moldflow software. Experimental results show that the optimization design is effective and the warpage of the product is reduced.

Molding is one of the most versatile and important processes for manufacturing complex plastic parts. It is a method of fabricating plastic parts by utilizing a mold or cavity that has a shape and size similar to the part being produced. Molten polymer is injected into the cavity, resulting in the desired part upon solidification. The injection-molded parts typically have excellent dimensional tolerance and require almost no finishing and assembly operations. But new variations and emerging innovations of conventional injection molding have been continuously developed to offer special features and benefits that cannot be accomplished by the conventional injection molding process. This study aims to improving the life of stereolithography injection mold.

Abstract This study concerns the application of infrared camera for injection molding analysis by measuring temperatures of both injection molded parts and injection mold cavities in a function of injection cycles. The mold with two cavities, differing in thickness (1 and 3 mm), and a cold direct runner was used. Isotactic polypropylene homopolymer was utilized to produce parts. Mold temperature was set at 22°C and controlled by a water chiller. Five measuring points were determined: SP1, SP2 (placed in the 3 mm cavity), SP3, SP4 (located in the 1 mm cavity) and SP5 around an injection molding gate. Our investigations showed that the highest temperature is localized around SP2 point and the lowest at SP4. Also, it was proved that even after 62 injection molding cycles, temperatures of cavities were not stable, revealing their further increase with each cycle.

Injection molding is a very complex multi-factor coupling effect and a nonlinear dynamic process. Therefore, under the influence of nonlinear and multi-factor, injection molding goal is to effectively predict and guarantee the quality of injection molded parts. In this paper, the common methods used to predict the quality of injection molded parts are introduced, including: Taguchi method, artificial neural network, response surface method, radial basis function method and Kriging model method. Research progresses as well as application examples of forecasting methods at home and abroad is summarized. Besides, the development trend of the injection molding quality prediction is discussed.

In the most cases manufacturing of injection mold and its cavities comprise more than half of the total production time. Very fine finishing operations can increase production time and cost of injection mold. Appropriate choice of finishing operations and injection technological parameters can reduce price of injection mold production, shorten production time and thus lower price of small and thin injection molded parts. Tool material X38CrMoV5-1, used for cavity in injection mold, was finished by fine turning, grinding, lapping and polishing with different technological conditions to achieve various surface roughness. The main aim of this research is to find an influence of surface quality of cavity and injection technological parameters on the surface quality of injection molded parts.

Injection research using aluminum flakes has been conducted to realize metallic textures on the surface of plastic products. Several studies have focused on the effect of the orientation and quality of the flakes when using conventional injection molding methods; however, limited studies have focused on the foam injection molding method. In this study, we examined the orientation of aluminum flakes through foam injection with an inert gas and observed the changes in texture using a spectrophotometer and a gloss meter. The mechanical properties were also studied because the rigidity of the product, which is affected by the weight reduction that occurs during foaming, is an important factor. The results demonstrate that under foam injection molding, reflectance and gloss increased by 6% and 7 GU, respectively, compared to those obtained using conventional injection molding; furthermore, impact strength and flexural modulus increased by 62% and 15%, respectively. The results of this research can be applied to incorporate esthetic improvements to products and to develop functional parts.

AbstractThe qualities of injection-molded parts are affected by process parameters. Warpage and volume shrinkage are two typical defects. Moreover, insufficient or excessively large clamping force also affects the quality of parts and the cost of the process. An experiment based on the orthogonal design was conducted to minimize the above defects. Moldflow software was used to simulate the injection process of each experiment. The entropy weight was used to determine the weight of each index, the comprehensive evaluation value was calculated, and multi-objective optimization was transformed into single-objective optimization. A regression model was established by the random forest (RF) algorithm. To further illustrate the reliability and accuracy of the model, back-propagation neural network and kriging models were taken as comparative algorithms. The results showed that the error of RF was the smallest and its performance was the best. Finally, genetic algorithm was used to search for the minimum of the regression model established by RF. The optimal parameters were found to improve the quality of plastic parts and reduce the energy consumption. The plastic parts manufactured by the optimal process parameters showed good quality and met the requirements of production.
