The β-Ni(OH)2 nanosheets are fabricated by a hydrothermal method. The products are characterized in detail by multiform techniques: X-ray diffraction(XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis(EDS), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The results show that the obtained products are nanosheets with diameters of 100-200 nm, and thickness ranging from 10nm to 15 nm . The prepared β-Ni(OH)2 nanosheets are used as electrode materials to study the electrocatalytic reduction of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in 0.5 M NaOH solution.

Subscript textThe Co3O4 nanocubes were synthesized by hydrothermal process. The products are characterized in detail by multiform techniques: scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. The results show that the products are uniform nanocubes with an average crystallite size about 20-40 nm. Electrocatalytic property of the prepared Co3O4 nanocubes was characterized by linear sweep voltammetry. LSV results indicate that Co3O4 nanocubes exhibit a remarkable electrocatalytic activity for the H2O2 reduction.

Ni nano-micro structures have been synthesized via a solution reduction route in the presence of ethylenediamine (EDA) under strong alkaline conditions. The phase composition, morphology, and microstructure of the resulting products are investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The presence of EDA plays an important role in the formation of Ni nano-micro structures, and microflowers or microspheres assembled from nanosized horns can be produced by changing the amount of EDA. The size of Ni nano-micro structures is dependent on the NaOH concentration, and long chains assembled from Ni nano-micro structured microspheres can be obtained by reducing the amount of NaOH solution used. The role of both EDA and NaOH in the reduction of Ni (II) to Ni, as well as in the growth of Ni nano-micro structures, has been discussed, and a possible formation mechanism of these Ni nano-micro structures has been proposed based on the experimental results.

This study investigates an application of zinc metalloporphyrin grafted Fe3O4 nanoparticles as a new adsorbent for removal of sulfate ions from wastewaters. The modification of magnetite nanoparticles was conducted by 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane followed by zinc (II) porphyrin in order to enhance the removal of sulfate ions. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was used to characterize the synthesized nano sorbent. The effect of important experimental factors such as pH, contact time, sorbent dosage and some co-existing anions present in aqueous solutions were investigated. Under optimal conditions (i.e. contact time: 30 min, pH: 6.5 and nanosorbents dosage: 100 mg) for a sulfate sample (50 mL, 50 mgL-1 ) the percentage of the extracted sulfate ions was 94.5%. Regeneration of sulfate adsorbed material could be possible by NaOH solution and the modified magnetic nano sorbent exhibited good reusability.

TiO2/TiB2 heterostructures were successfully synthesized by a facile hydrothermal approach in an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The influence of H2O2 on TiB2-based materials was systematically investigated using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results show that TiB2 is prone to oxidize in the presence of H2O2. TiO2/TiB2 heterostructure which high-density anatase-TiO2 stand on the surface can be gained in the presence of H2O2 solvent and the final composition can be controlled by the temperature and time. The investigation may provide a path to further understand the chemical property of TiB2-based materials and synthesis method of heterostructure.

Calcium is an important element in the growth and development of plants and one form of calcium is calcium oxalate. Calcium oxalate has been found in leaf seed, stem material plant tissue culture, fungi and lichen using one or more of the following methods—polarized light microscopy (PLM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and x-ray diffraction. Two methods are presented here for qualitatively estimating calcium oxalate in dried or fixed tobacco (Nicotiana) leaf from different stalk positions using PLM. SEM, coupled with energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry (EDS), and powder x-ray diffraction were used to verify that the crystals observed in the dried leaf with PLM were calcium oxalate.

AbstractThe effect of microstructure of dc magnetron sputtered TiN and TaN diffusion barriers on the palladium activation for autocatalytic electroless copper deposition has been investigated by using X-ray diffraction, sheet resistance measurement, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and plan view transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The density of palladium nuclei on TaN diffusion barrier increases as the grain size of TaN films decreases, which was caused by increasing nitrogen content in TaN films. Plan view TEM results of TiN and TaN diffusiton barriers showed that palladium nuclei formed mainly on the grain boundaries of the diffusion barriers.

BiFeO3 polyhedrons had been successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal method. The as-prepared products were characterized by power X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The possible mechanisms for the formation of BiFeO3 polyhedrons were discussed. Though comparison experiments, it was found that the kind of precursor played a key role on the morphology control of BiFeO3 crystals.

Ti3C2Tx MXene, a new 2D nanosheet material, is expected to be an attractive reinforcement of metal matrix composites because its surfaces are terminated with Ti and/or functional groups of –OH, –O, and –F which improve its wettability with metals. Thus, new Ti3C2Tx/Al composites with strong interfaces and novel properties are desired. To prepare such composites, the chemical stability of Ti3C2Tx with Al at high temperatures should be investigated. This work first reports on the chemical stability of Ti3C2Tx MXene with Al in the temperature range 500–700 °C. Ti3C2Tx is thermally stable with Al at temperatures below 700 °C, but it reacts with Al to form Al3Ti and TiC at temperatures above 700 °C. The chemical stability and microstructure of the Ti3C2Tx/Al samples were investigated by differential scanning calorimeter, X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy.

The present article reports the results of studies related to the synthesis of nanocrystalline ceria powder by combustion process using salt combustion aid. Cerium nitrate as oxidant and urea as fuel were used as reagents, Sodium Chloride was compared as combustion aid. The phase analysis and particle size were compared. The product was characterized by X-ray diffraction, Scanning electron microscopy and Transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that employment of starting fuel with combustion aid resulted in synthesizing nanocrystalline ceria powder with fine agglomerates. By using combustion aid, the energetics of the combustion reaction and particle characteristics have been changed.
