A visible-light-active N-TiO2photocatalyst was prepared by a simple method: TiN nanoparticles were calcined in the O2/N2atmosphere. The prepared N-TiO2shows high photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methyl orange in water under visible light irradiation. The photodegradation results indicate that the prepared photocatalysts have the best photocatalytic activity when TiN was calcined at 650 °C for 15 min in the O2/N2atmosphere with 1:15 (volume) of O2/N2.

A visible-light-active nitrogen-doped mesoporous TiO2 (N-TiO2) film was synthesized via sol-gel spin-coating technique, using carbon spheres as pore-forming materials. The as-prepared film was characterized by XRD, BET, SEM, XPS and UV-Vis. The N-TiO2 film showed higher photocatalytic activity in the degradation of dye Reactive Brilliant Red X-3B (C.I. reactive red 2) under visible light irradiation compared with smooth TiO2 film and P25 film. The apparent rate constant of the N-TiO2 film was almost 10 times as that of P25 film.

A magnetically separable photocatalyst silver vanadates@SiO2/Fe3O4was prepared by hydrothermal process. The prepared sample was composed of mixed phases of a–Ag3VO4and Ag4V2O4, and the main phase was a–Ag3VO4. The bandgap of the synthesized sample was 2.2 eV. In the degradation of methyl orange (MO) solution under the visible light (l>420 nm), the silver vanadates@SiO2/Fe3O4showed high photocatalytic activity in two-cycle photocatalytic test.

A visible-light-driven photocatalyst Ag3PO4 was prepared by a novel precipitation- replacement process. The synthesized sample was cubic crystals with the bandgap of 2.16 eV. And most of the particles size was among 0.5~2 mm. The Ag3PO4 shows high photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methyl orange (MO) solution under the visible light (l>420 nm). The apparent ratio constant (kapp) value of Ag3PO4 was about 239 and 50 times that of P25 and C-TiO2, respectively.

A visible light active nitrogen-doped ZnO (N-ZnO) was synthesized using a solvent-free mechanochemical method and applied to degrade methylene blue (MB) dye in aqueous suspension. Results showed that nitrogen doping improved the photocatalytic activity of pristine ZnO by extending its spectral response to visible region. Using 2 g/L of N-ZnO, 98% MB with the initial concentration of 10 mg/L could be degraded within 2 h at pH 7 under 11.3 klux of visible light irradiation. After 6th run, it still exhibited appreciable photocatalytic activity with 94% MB degradation, indicating its high reusability though a simple pretreatment was performed.

Nitrogen doped titanium dioxide nanoparticals (N-TiO2) were prepared by the sol-hydrothermal method using urea as N sources. SEM showed the sphericity of as-prepared nanoparticals. XRD indicated that N-TiO2 was anatase crystal after thermal treatment. While Na-chlorophyllin copper (Na-chl-Cu) was used as to sensitize the N-TiO2, the photocurrent of Na-chl-Cu/N-TiO2 was 50 ìA double than that of N-TiO2 under visible light illumination. Thus, the visible light photoelectrocatalytic degradation properties of Na-chl-Cu/N-TiO2 were investigated using methyl orange (MO) as the objective pollution. When 1.8 V anodic bias potential and visible light were simultaneously applied, the highest degradation efficiency of MO over the Na-chl-Cu/N-TiO2 was obtained.

A low temperature (130 °C) hydrothermal method was proposed for the synthesis of SnO2-SnS2 nanocomposite. The composition, structure and optical property of the as-synthesized SnO2-SnS2 nanocomposite were characterized by X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra, and its photocatalytic activity was tested by the reduction of Cr(VI) in water under visible light (λ > 420 nm) irradiation. It was found that the as-synthesized SnO2-SnS2 nanocomposite exhibited high photocatalytic activity in the reduction of Cr(VI) in water under visible light (λ > 420 nm) irradiation, whereas SnO2 nanoparticles displayed no photocatalytic activity in the reduction of Cr(VI) in water under visible light (λ > 420 nm) irradiation.
