With the fast development of virtual manufacturing (VM), virtual enterprise (VE) is believed the enterprise of the future. The leadership effectiveness is important in VEs. This research focused on the dark side of leadership in VEs by examining how VE supervisors destructive leadership influences the performance of subordinates. As predicted, the negative relationship between VE supervisors destructive leadership behavior and subordinates performance was stronger among subordinates whose perception of interactive justice was lower. The studys implications for theory and practice are discussed.

Abstract The dark side leadership literature remains a highly relevant yet fragmented and ambiguous literature stream. Therefore, we conduct a bibliometric analysis using co-citation and pathfinder analysis to describe and visualize the intellectual origins of the field by combining predefined word lists with expert validation. Our results suggest that there are key authors as well as other distinctive characteristics of research that also guides future research. Thematic clusters of the dark side literature suggest heightened emphasis on single dark traits such as narcissism while other constructs such as psychopathy receive little attention. Articles by Tepper can be linked to a central position in the network. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.

Most researchers focus on the effect of mergers and acquisitions (M&As) on investor returns and overlook customer reactions, despite the fact that customers are directly impacted by these corporate transformations. Others suggest that in M&A contexts, a dual emphasis of customer satisfaction and firm efficiency is both likely and beneficial. In contrast, the authors demonstrate that M&As not only do not yield a dual emphasis but also cause a decline in customer satisfaction to the extent that it eclipses any gain in firm value from an increase in firm efficiency. A quasi-experimental difference-in-differences analysis and an instrumental variable panel regression provide robust evidence for the dark side of M&As for customers. The authors use the attention-based view of the firm to demonstrate that post-M&A customer dissatisfaction occurs because of a shift in executive attention away from customers and toward financial issues. In line with the related upper echelons theory, they find that marketing representation on firms’ board of directors helps maintain executive attention on customers, which mitigates the dysfunctional effect of M&As on customer satisfaction. This research identifies a negative M&A-customer satisfaction relationship and highlights executive attention to customer issues and marketing leadership as factors that mitigate this negative relationship.

Still, there is a lack of research on the dark side or destructive leadership. The purpose of this research is to add the literature on the two shades of destructive leadership, that are aversive and exploitative leadership, and their shadow in the form of counterproductive work behavior on the nursing professionals. Using 485 samples collected from the nurses of different hospitals of Pakistan, the model is tested through multiple linear hierarchical regressions, correlation analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis in Smart PLS software. The results reveal that people working under aversive and exploitative leaders are more likely to indulge in counterproductive work behavior. Still, proactive personalities have an essential impact which weakens the relationship between destructive leadership and counterproductive work behavior. Results of this study describe a vital requirement for corporate leaders to strengthen their recruitment process in such a way that people with aversive and exploitative attitudes ought to understand how to treat their subordinates before they enter top roles to discourage their workers from indulging in counterproductive behavior.

This research paper provides a detailed evaluation of the business concepts in Electronic Commerce (E-Commerce). The concept of E-Commerce defines the exchange of goods and services with monetary value between consumers and companies. E-Commerce is a web-based catalogue whereby buyers can possibly place order and sellers possibly accept payments. E-Commerce incorporates two forms of business: Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Consumer (B2C), which provides a definition of the commerce transactions between enterprises, such as between the wholesalers and the manufacturers or the retailers. B2C E-Commerce provides enterprises with the model which allows businesses to deliver purchasers to the relevant merchants and achieve from the commission rewards given by the merchants. This paper evaluates two forms of business with relation to management of Virtual Enterprises (VE) in the field of E-Commerce. The paper will end with an analysis of VE before projecting future directions for health of B2B and B2C in business.

Shipbuilding in the United States is characterized by large teams of suppliers and subcontractors who collaborate and support shipbuilders. It is important that these shipbuilding teams function as a single integrated organization: A Virtual Enterprise. The inefficiencies and impediments caused by each team member using their own choice of information technologies, software, data management and processes must be addressed to increase overall US shipbuilding efficiency and cost effectiveness. The NIIIP SPARS project is developing the information infrastructure and protocols to enable shipbuilding Virtual Enterprises that will improve collaboration and information exchange within the US shipbuilding community.

Abstract Gentili’s conceptualization of war as a conflict between states attempted to limit the legitimacy of war to external wars only, thus precluding the legitimacy of civil wars. It reflected both the emergence of sovereign states and the vision of international law as a law among polities rather than individuals. The conceptualization of war as a dispute settlement mechanism among polities rather than a punishment for breach of the law of nations and the idea of the bilateral justice of war humanized the conduct of warfare and the content of peace treaties. The idea of perfect war excluded brigandage, piracy, and civil wars from its purview. Some scholars have suggested that perfect war had a dark side, legitimizing imperial expansion. Others have cautioned that Gentili explicitly opposed imperial expansion rather adopting anti-imperialist stances. This article suggests that these ambivalent readings of the Gentilian oeuvre reflect the ambivalence of the early modern law of nations. Under the early modern law of nations, aggression for the sake of empire was clearly unjust; nonetheless, imperial expansion took place. Whereas ‘a law which many transgress[ed] [wa]s nonetheless a law’, there was a wide divide between theory and practice.1


<i>Abstract.—</i>In this paper, we describe a fishing ethic, conceptualized as Minnesota anglers’ normative beliefs regarding various stewardship behaviors. We use structural equation modeling to determine the extent to which angler’s value orientations, measured along an anthropocentric–biocentric continuum, can be used to predict social norms regarding angling and endorsement or opposition to the use of technological angling aids. Data were obtained from a statewide mail survey of Minnesota anglers conducted in the spring of 2003 (<i>n </i>= 457). Results show a modest, positive relationship between biocentric value orientations and stewardship norms and a modest, negative relationship between biocentric value orientations and support for the use of technological angling aids. Consistent with previous research, our results indicated that norms regarding angling may be positioned along a bio-anthropocentric continuum and support the use of the cognitive hierarchy as a framework for understanding and predicting anglers’ normative beliefs. Results further suggest fisheries managers interested in promoting stewardship could benefit from recognizing the underlying values that help guide our behavior regarding natural resources.

A key characteristic of a virtual enterprise (VE) is the heterogeneity of the applications that compose its enterprise information systems (EIS), since it builds on the EIS of the individual enterprises that are part of the collaborative network of that VE. This raises an application integration problem, which is even more serious than within any given EIS because a VE has a temporary nature, and therefore, integration requirements can change frequently. Current integration technologies, such as Web Services and RESTful APIs, solve the interoperability problem but usually entail more coupling than needed, since they require sharing data schemas between interacting applications, even if not all values of those schemas are actually used. The fundamental problem of application integration is therefore how to provide at most the minimum coupling possible while ensuring at least the minimum interoperability requirements. This chapter proposes compliance and conformance as the concepts to achieve this goal.

Small, Medium, and Micro enterprises (SMMEs) usually do not have adequate funds to acquire ICT infrastructure and often use cloud computing. In this paper, the authors discuss the implementation of virtual enterprises (VE) to enable SMMEs to respond quickly to customers’ demands and market opportunities. The virtual enterprise model is based on the ability to create temporary co-operations and realize the value of a short term business opportunity that the partners cannot fully capture on their own. The model of virtual enterprise is made possible through virtualisation technology, which is a building block of cloud computing. To achieve a common goal, enterprises integrate resources, organisational models, and process models. Through the virtual business operating environment offered by cloud computing, the SMMEs are able to increase productivity and gain competitive advantage due to the cost benefit incurred. In this paper, the authors propose a virtual enterprise enabled cloud enterprise architecture based on the concept of virtual enterprise at both business and technology levels. The business level comprises of organisational models, process models, skills, and competences whereas the technology level comprises of IT resources.

The growth and expansion of enterprises into foreign markets presuppose the aggregation of financial information that includes non homogeneous elements. The purpose of this article is to present several accounting difficulties deriving from the establishment of virtual enterprises and consequently, to set some relevant management and cultural aspects. Emphasis is, also, given to the analysis of the accounting recognition and measurement difficulties deriving from recording accounting information in a virtual enterprise. In conclusion, although there are accounting, as well as, auditing problems of defined, measured and disclosed in a such a type of business, its importance will increase as the capital market grows.
