In the past, most of the researches in tomography system concentrated more on the design of the sensor, and made use of the data acquisition system as the interface to the personal computer. This will increase the cost of the system. In this project, Universal Serial Bus was successfully implemented in an optical tomography system, providing a low cost, high–speed data acquisition system. The system, however, is an offline system. The system had successfully processed all the data in the lower level, using the micro controller before sending the data into the PC through the USB. Key words: Universal Serial Bus, optical tomography system, data acquisition system, tomogram

The design of multi-channel temperature acquisition system based on MSP430 and temperature sensor DS18B20 is presented in this paper. The simulation can be realized by using Proteus. The system has the following advantages: the structure of system is specific; the circuit is simple and it’s easy to control. The system can complete the acquisition and display of multi-channel temperature, it also has other functions such as transferring data to PC, etc. The simulation shows that the system is low cost, high reliability and high practical value.

A CMOS image acquisition system based on Contex-M3 is developed. In design STM32F103X is selected as the main controller, OV7670 is used for image sensors. In order to capture high-speed digital image, the FIFO buffer chip AL422B and SD Card under the control of the DMA are employed to directly transfer data. Moreover the SD card and 2.8 inch TFT LCD are selected to storage and display image data, respectively. Because of small size, low power, simple structure and low cost, the image acquisition system can provide an important reference value for development of similar system.

In this work, we demonstrate a simple yet convenient centrifugal microfluidics, or lab-on-a-disc (LOAD) platform for bead-based immunoassays. The disc contains a network of passive valves for sample manipulation and a bead-aggregating barrier structure to instead of commonly used immobilization method. The narrow-channel structure not only provides a geometric barrier for retaining the beads, but also significantly increased fluidic resistance which results in lower flow rate and longer reaction time for each reagent in the reaction chamber. Centrifuge-forced beads densification in the small junction area and signal concentrating allows high signal sensing capability. The acceleration speed is optimized for largest signal-to-noise ratio. The device uses different rotation speed to trigger a cascade of flow events. The integrated platform contains all the necessary functional elements for conducting one-step parallel assays through a sequential protocol. For our test device, the total time required to complete an immunoassay experiment is typically under 6 minutes. Through this work we have also shown that the use of a geometric barrier for the aggregation of signaling beads is an effective approach for the enhancement of optical signals in common immunoassays. This flexible design is suitable for a broad range of bead-based immunoassays with low-cost and high-speed operation.

The Ji’an PM No. 3 is the first linerboard machine in China to use multilayer curtain coating technology. Since successful startup at the end of 2011, further development has been carried out to optimize running conditions, coating formulations, and the base paper to provide a product with satisfactory quality and lower cost to manufacture. The key challenges include designing the base board structure for the desired mechanical strength, designing the surface properties for subsequent coating operations, optimizing the high-speed running of the curtain coater to enhance production efficiency, minimizing the amount of titanium dioxide in the coating color, and balancing the coated board properties to make them suitable for both offset and flexographic printing. The pilot and mill scale results show that curtain coating has a major positive impact on brightness, while smoothness is improved mainly by the blade coating and calendering conditions. Optimization of base board properties and the blade + curtain + blade concept has resulted in the successful use of 100% recycled fiber to produce base board. The optical, mechanical, and printability properties of the final coated board meet market requirements for both offset and flexographic printing. Machine runnability is excellent at the current speed of 1000 m/min, and titanium dioxide has been eliminated in the coating formulations without affecting the coating coverage. A significant improvement in the total cost of coated white liner production has been achieved, compared to the conventional concept of using virgin fiber in the top ply. Future development will focus on combining low cost with further quality improvements to make linerboard suitable for a wider range of end-use applications, including frozen-food packaging and folding boxboard.

A low-cost and high-speed electro-optic (EO) switch using the guest–host EO material Disperse Red 1/Polymethyl Methacrylate (DR1/PMMA) was designed and fabricated. The DR1/PMMA material presented a low processing cost, an excellent photostability and a large EO coefficient of 13.1 pm/V. To improve the performance of the switch, the in-plane buried electrode structure was introduced in the polymer Mach–Zehnder waveguide to improve the poling and modulating efficiency. The characteristic parameters of the waveguide and the electrodes were carefully designed and the fabrication process was strictly controlled. Under 1550 nm, the insertion loss of the device was 12.7 dB. The measured switching rise time and fall time of the switch were 50.00 ns and 54.29 ns, respectively.
