A new carbon source (mint) is proposed to prepare carbon dots with excellent photostability and strong photobleaching properties by one-step hydrothermal method. The average particle diameter for carbon dots is 5.0 nm, emitting blue luminescence, and the quantum yield is 4.5%. Fluorescence can be obviously quenched in Fe3+ solution. Further, A method based on fluorescence quenching of carbon dots for detecting Fe3+ is established, which has a linear range of 0.5∼100 μM with a detection limit of 0.104 μM. This may provide an easy and sensitive method for iron detection.

This work describes a novel fluorescent 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole derivative designed to act as a water-soluble and selective bioprobe for plasma membrane imaging. The new compound was efficiently synthesized in a two-step procedure with good yields. The photophysical properties were evaluated and the dye proved to have an excellent photostability in several solvents. DFT calculations were found in agreement with the experimental data and helped to understand the stabilizing intramolecular charge-transfer process from the first excited state. The new fluorescent derivative could be applied as selective bioprobe in several cell lines and displayed plasma-membrane affinity during the imaging experiments for all tested models.

A D–π-A structure near-infrared fluorescent probe (Lyso-BTC) is explored for its fluorescence visualization and detection of lysosomes in view of a large Stokes shift (∼190 nm), NIR emission (685 nm), excellent photostability, fluorescence response to viscosity, and lysosome-targeted property.
