Nanostructured WO3 was synthesized by a hard template method using platelet-shaped mesoporous silica SBA-15. The nanostructured WO3 consisted of nanorod arrays comprised of mixed crystalline tetragonal and monoclinic phases with the diameter of 8.5 nm and the length of 170-300 nm. The specific surface area was 30 m2/g, which was about 6 times higher compared to that synthesized without the template.

The synthesis and characterization of  mesoporous silica Santa Barbara Acid-15 (SBA-15) from the ash of corn have been done.  SBA-15 was synthesised using the surfactant template method. SBA-15 from corn leaves  ash has a surface area of 592 m2 / gram, pore volume of 0.99 cm3 / gram and pore diameter of 3.95 nm with pore size ranging from 4.9 nm - 7.1 nm. The SAXS pattern of the bio-SBA-15 showed three typical peaks of SBA-15 with miller indices [100], [110] and [200]. In the FTIR spectrum of  SBA-15, peaks from Si-O-Si, Si-OH and H-O-H from water were observed.

The experimental results on the synthesis and characterization of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS)/ methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS)-based silica aerogels using two step sol-gel process via supercritical drying, are described. The obtained TEOS/MTMS-based aerogel showed properties of 0.1g/cm3 density, 95.5% porosity and 1070 m2/g specific surface area.
