The fabrication and characterizations of nanocrystal-ZnO thin film used as active layer of MSM-photodetector structure are reported. The ZnO thin film were successfully sputtered on SiO2/Si substrates without heating or annealing processes by using a novel reactive gas-timing technique. In our experiment, the ZnO thin film properties with different gas-timing ratio of Ar/O2 were investigated. For fabricating of UV detector, the Al interdigitate electrode was deposited on SiO2/Si substrate by DC sputtering process and ZnO thin film was deposited as active layer. The response wavelength peak occurs at around 380 nm corresponding to ZnO energy bandgap of 3.2 eV .The I-V measurements indicates the Schottky behavior of ZnO on Al contact.

The properties of zinc oxide thin films were prepared by sol-gel spin-coating method have been presented. This study based on optical and electrical properties of ZnO thin film. The effects of annealing temperatures that exposed with two environments properties have been investigated. Environments exposed in room (27°C) and hot (80°C) temperatures which are stored by various days. Solution preparation, thin film deposition and characterization process were involved in this project. The ZnO films were characterized using UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer for optical properties. From that equipment, the percentage of transmittance (%) and absorption coefficient spectra were obtained. With two environments showed have different absorption coefficient are reveal and all films have low absorbance in visible and near infrared (IR) region but have high UV absorption properties. From SEM investigations the surface morphology of ZnO thin film shows the particles size become smaller and denser in hot temperatures while in room temperatures have porosity between particles.

It is very desirable to grow ZnO epitaxial films on Si substrates since Si wafers with a high quality is available and their prices are quite low. Nevertheless, it is not easy to grow ZnO films epitaxially on Si substrates directly because of formation of an amorphous SiO2 layer at the interface of ZnO and Si. A Zn film and an undoped ZnO film were deposited sequentially on an (100) Si substrate by rf magnetron sputtering. The sample was annealed at 700°C in a nitrogen atmosphere. X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) analyses were performed to investigate the cristallinity and surface morphology of the ZnO film. According to the analysis results the crystallinity of a ZnO thin film deposited by rf magnetron sputtering is substantially improved by using a Zn buffer layer. The highest ZnO film quality is obtained with a 110nm thick Zn buffer layer. The surface roughness of the ZnO thin film increases as the Zn buffer layer thickness increases.
