It has been proven that HA coatings on implant materials treated with silver exhibited excellent antibacterial effects. Silver (Ag) ions were successfully incorporated into HA structure with the precipitation method. Although this method was pretty much suitable for the synthesis in powder form, it is not applicable to in-situ coating processes. The aim of the current study is to synthesize Ag ion incorporating HA via the decomposition of EDTA Chelate. For this reason, Ag doped crystalline-sodium and carbonate-containing HA solutions will be prepared using calcium-EDTA in a sodium phosphate solution, hydrogen peroxide and silver nitrate. As the source of Ag ions, silver nitrate was added into the solution in the desired proportions. Then, the samples were sintered at temperatures from 800oC to 1100oC and characterized with XRD and SEM.

Hydrothermal and precipitation methods have been applied to synthesize nanoscale CeO2 catalysts for selective catalytic reduction of NO with hydrocarbon under oxygen-rich condition. The former procedure has the advantage of enhancing the hydrothermal stability of nanomaterial. BET results show that their surface areas are about 30-80 m2/g. Based on TEM results, hydrothermally prepared CeO2 shows very uniform grain shaped particles with size around 10-20 nanometers. Its thermal stability up to 1200°C has been confirmed by in-situ XRD. Furthermore, deNOx reaction with propene as reducing agent in the presence of 5% oxygen has been carried out to compare catalysts prepared by the above two methods. Results show that hydrothermally prepared catalyst is more active than the one prepared by precipitation method. The latter one lost half of its activity in the presence of 5% water vapor, while the former one could stand up to 10% water vapor in the gas mixture without losing much activity.

Fe3O4 nanoparticles modified by a certain amount of oleic acid under in-situ processing were synthesized by precipitation method through dropwise adding aqueous solution of ammonia to mixed solution of Fe (II) and Fe (III) salts. Furthermore, Fe3O4/PMMA magnetic polymer microspheres were prepared by the emulsion polymerization method, which properties were characterized by the infrared spectrum, thermogravimetry analysis and scanning electron microscopy.

Silver nanoplates (SNPs) having different size were synthesized by a seed-mediated method. The seeds -silver nanoparticles with 4 – 6 nm diameters were synthesized first by reducing silver nitrate with sodium borohydride in the present of Trisodium Citrate and Hydrogen peroxide. Then these seeds were developed by continue reducing Ag\(^+\) ions with various amount of L-Ascorbic acid to form SNPs. Our analysis showed that the concentratrion of L-Ascorbic acid, a secondary reducing agent, played an important role to form SNPs. In addition, the size and in-plane dipole plasmon resonance wavelenght of silver nanoplates were increased when the concentration of added silver nitrate increased. The characterization of SNPs were studied by UV-Vis, FE-SEM, EDS and TEM methods.

AbstractSingle-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) and multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) were functionalized with 3,4-diaminobenzoic acid via “direct” Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction in PPA/P2O5 to afford ortho-diamino-functionalized SWCNT (DIF-SWCNT) and MWCNT (DIF-MWCNT). The resultant DIF-SWCNT and DIF-MWCNT showed improved solubility and dispersibility. To improve interfacial adhesion between CNT and polymer matrix, the grafting of ABPBI onto the surface of DIF-SWCNT (10 wt%) or DIF-MWCNT (10 wt%) was conducted by simple in-situ polymerization of AB monomer, 3,4-diaminobenzoic acid dihydrochloride, in PPA. The resultant ABPBI-g-MWCNT and ABPBI-g-SWCNT showed improved the mechanical and electrical properties.
